  • This was our third (fourth?) time. Always a pleasure. Love Hawthorne and Mt. Tabor. Thanks, Kim.

  • We arrived at the Pistachio Condo after a long day of travelling, and Kim was waiting for us right in front. She was very helpful and patient going over all of the house details. We were very impressed with the welcoming atmosphere and homey feel of this one bedroom condo. Everything was well put together, clean, and ready to receive guests. We would definitely stay here again, my friends there who are locals were all envious of our location. Although we were in and out most of our stay, we never once felt out of place staying here. Any questions we had, Kim and her husband were very helpful and accommodating. We were able to easily catch public transit into downtown as there are two stops close by and several bus lines that take the same route. We did choose to rent a car and the parking in the area was never an issue. We definitely had a great stay and loved our experience staying here.

  • We had a fantastic experience staying in the Butternut Condos. The apartment was charming and a perfect size for the three of us: two of us slept in the bedroom and one slept on the futon. The apartment had many small touches that made our stay nicer: pots and pans in the kitchen; soap/shampoo/conditioner in the bathrooms. The cute and quirky apartment decor also enhanced the quality of our experience.

We had known very little about Portland's neighborhoods, but we loved staying in this area of Mt. Tabor. The condos are across the street from Saphhire Hotel, a fantastic restaurant with a beautiful cocktail menu that serves until 2am. On SE Hawthorne Street there are many restaurants, vintage shops, and more. We were only a block from Por Que No?, a great Mexican restaurant. We were also walking distance from many of the other restaurants and shops of interest in East Portland. The condo is also a couple of blocks from Mt. Tabor, which is great for walking, running, and picnicking. The place was a few miles from downtown, so getting there was less convenient, but we expected that.

One issue is that there isn't too much noise privacy: if you want the freedom to be loud this probably is not the place for you.

  • In short, had a fantastic stay! The owners were extremely friendly and accomodating, helpful, and the on-site instructions and guides were very clear! Will DEFINITELY come back to Butternut Condos for my next trip to Portland. The neighborhood (Hawthorne) is really happening, and there were GREAT options for shopping, food, drink, entertainment, and parks right in the area. Highest recommendation!

  • What a delightful corner of Portland! Kim and Francis are such incredible hosts, and they have created one of the coziest wee spots I have stayed in. I wanted to take all of the furniture home...
OTTO was amazing, (their restaurant), and the area of Hawthorne allows for what feels like a truly authentic experience ~ nurturing the residents rather than commercial tourism.
I plan on returning as soon as harvest is over, for a retro furniture indulgence-spree. Not to mention dining delight....
Thank you Kim and Francis!! xx

  • This was an ideal place for me to stay in Portland. Quiet neighborhood, yet I could walk to a natural foods grocery store, Powell's Books in Hawthorne, and YogaUnion to take a class. I had a stunningly good cappuccino at a lovely neighborhood cafe across the street. The fellow residents at the condos were friendly. The hosts were especially helpful--I accepted their generous offer and they picked me up at the train station when I arrived in Portland. The interior of the condo is very clean and charmingly decorated. I had everything I needed for a weekend getaway. Thanks!
