Apartment - Private room · Victorine Abbey, Knightsbrook, Dublin Road, Trim, Co. Meath, Ireland

The Space

We offer a very comfortable bed in a homely but modern ground floor townhouse-like apartment in Trim, Co. Meath (i.e.: County Meath *not* County Dublin). Owner occupiers are a friendly gay couple, one Irish, one French. The accommodation is gay friendly but we'll never discriminate either way!

The bed is a double which our visitors always describe as being very comfortable and usually remark upon how well they sleep, so hopefully you'll also find it to your liking should you stay with us. Although the room is on the small side, it is a very restful and warm space which can boast plenty of pillows to help you sleep comfortably and extra blankets for those colder nights - but even then the excellent heating will probably make those redundant. We also have ample equipment and storage for our visitors’ belongings with bedside locker, a chest of drawers and large wardrobes. The floors are wooden so ideal if you have an aversion to carpets (there are no carpets anywhere in the property). We also provide a bedside reading lamp, hair dryer, iPod docking station, mirror and plenty of books to keep you lightly entertained before you nod off.

Our open plan kitchen/ dining room and living room is more than comfortable enough should you want to sit back and just watch TV or fix yourself a tea, any one of a variety of coffees from the Nespresso machine or maybe even something stronger in the evening if you're so inclined. Weather permitting you could also sit outside in the garden to relax and watch the occasional hot air balloon float overhead or just enjoy the peace and quiet offered by life in a small countryside town. Unless our cocker spaniels are wrestling on the lawn, in which case you may want to watch that.

As there is only one bathroom you would be sharing this with the owners, however a very large hot water tank would ensure no unexpected cold showers for anyone concerned. An excellent water pump also provides adequate pressure to ensure an invigorating shower. The shower is fitted above the bath, which is also an option should guests feel the need to unwind - provided you warn the others present so there are no bathroom emergencies.

Our place is just five minutes walk from the River Boyne and many of the attractions pictured including the Knightsbrook Hotel, Spa and Golf Resort, the ruins of an Abbey, a ruined hospital and the very special 'Marcie Regan's' excellent traditional Irish pub on the banks of the Boyne - overlooking the ruins. Follow the winding riverside path for a picturesque stroll through the Abbey ruin and onwards against the flow of the river, as the path meanders its way into one of Ireland's prettiest heritage towns - arriving at the magnificent Trim Castle ruin which dominates the town. Trim Castle is just 20 minutes walk along the river from our home. There's also a Bus Eireann stop right outside our development which will take you direct to Dublin City Centre, every hour. The development itself is a private estate and it is one of several distinct private housing developments which run alongside the main thoroughfare leading (from the Dublin Rd) to the Knightsbrook Hotel, Golf Resort and Spa complex. The entrance to the development is easily spotted as there are two large stone arches acting as landmarks (see photo).

Trim can offer you an excellent countryside base for exploring the counties of Meath, Dublin, Kildare, West Meath and beyond. Also of particular interest in the area is the world famous Hill of Tara, Newgrange passage tombs, Loughcrew passage tombs, Loughcrew Gardens, Bective Abbey, Bellinter House, Killeen Castle (venue of the Solheim Cup 2011) and many, many more attractions.

If needed we have a basic mobile phone (cell phone) handset available should you need a phone that works in Ireland while you're visting. We found this useful for guests who did not have perfect English or who did not want to use roaming on their own phone and/or who wanted to be able to contact us while out and about on their own.

1 person = € 30 per night for the room (with breakfast)

2 persons = € 50 per night for the room (with breakfast)

Evening Meals are not included but can be arranged for a small fee.

Note: We just want to specify that we have two very well behaved, beautiful Cocker Spaniels and we would expect our guests to understand that the dogs are important members of this little family and that we would want them to be treated as they would treat you, with both affection and warmth. So, if you don't like dogs, this is definitely not the accommodation for you.

If you have any questions about the room, the apartment, Trim or Ireland, please just ask.

Looking forward to hearing from you,

  • Fabien and Paul were fantastic hosts. For our first Airbnb experience, we could not have asked for anything better! The room accommodations were warm and comfortable with plenty of storage. The breakfasts were wonderful. Evening conversations were lively and very enjoyable along with an occasional glass of wine! Maxi and Roux are very friendly and well behaved cocker spaniels which were so much fun to be around. Paul's directions were very helpful when sightseeing and returning to the Dublin area. We felt like part of the family and recommend them without any reservation. Looking forward to a return visit in the very near future.

  • Paul and Fabien are the best hosts anyone could hope for. Extremely nice and helpful, they do make their bests to make you feel at home. Maxi and Roux are adorable, and a joy to be around. The house is really beautiful, as is Trim. We were able to enjoy to delicious breakfasts, one of them french!
I would definitely recommend staying here, and if you do, don´t miss the Boyne river walk, is amazing.

  • Fabien and Paul were wonderful! And, their place is so lovely! They were excellent company and wonderful to chat with when I was just relaxing at their place. Paul was so nice to come and give me a lift into town and Fabien was so sweet in making sure I was comfortable and had enough to eat. When they went to work, they laid out and amazing breakfast for me, and the next morning Fabien made an Irish breakfast that was so delicious! They even let me stay into the next evening as I waited for my cousin to come and pick me up. They are wonderful people and, if you're in Trim, you should definitely stay with them!
And their two dogs make the place even better! So cute!

  • I highly recommend this place. It is a short walk to the town center and an even shorter walk to a picturesque and ruined church on the bank of the Boyne. The house and room are cozy and immaculate. Paul and Fabien are welcoming and very easy going. Their dogs are friendly, well-groomed, and well-trained. A fantastic place to stop if you wish to see Trim, or the Boyne valley, or wish to be a quick drive off from the airport.

  • We had such a wonderful stay with Fabian and Paul. They were our first Airbnb stay on our trip to Ireland, we could not have been happier to have had such a good experience. Right away Fabian showed us around Trim as we went shopping and took one of their dogs for a walk.We shared a meal that night and the guys helped us plan our activities for the next few days. My husband had a good time chatting with Paul about cars while I cuddled with the dogs and talked to Fabian about food and cooking. It didn't feel like we had just met, it was like staying with family. The breakfast were scrumptious and the room was very, very nice! Thanks guys for all your hospitality!!

    Response from Fabien & Paul:

Sky and Joe were the perfect airbnb guests. Their wonderful personalities and talkative good humoured nature was abundantly clear from the time they first arrived. We were delighted to see that they were very interested in our dogs who of course adored the attention they received. We found both very polite and interesting people to chat with and were therefore a really engaging couple to host for. It felt very much like having some friends to stay. They were totally undemanding and easy to please. I was here on the morning that they were checking out and I was happy to see that they had clearly had a nice time with us based on both their comments and the big hugs I was given before they hit the road for their next adventure into the west! It was a pleasure to host for you both and I wish you all the best for the future.

Highly recommended airbnbers - don't hesitate to approve their booking! (", )

P.S.: Sky, I've framed those prints you gave me and put them in the guest room. They look perfect in there. I've also given the horse one away in a frame to our friend who works with horses - she was delighted because it looks like her "Snoopy".

  • We stayed with Paul and Fabien for two nights in their cozy little place. It was really a great time and you will adore their cocker spaniels. Every morning Fabien had breakfast for us and made us feel very welcomed. They both made us feel like we could use their home as if it was ours. I made tea in the kitchen and one night I made homemade salsa and guacamole and Fabien and I cooked together. I love British tv shows, so one night Paul and I hung out in the living room and watched, "The Catherine Tate Show." I had never seen it before and I loved it! The night before we left I washed some clothes. I was worried that they wouldn't dry in time before we had to leave early in the morning. Paul came to my rescue. We moved my clothes into the bathroom and he plugged in a humidifier and shut the door for the night and when I woke up in the morning they were dry and I could now pack them into my suitcase. They didn't mind driving us into the city on their way to work which saved us on bus fare:). Their kindness I will remember and on my way back to Dublin I want to stay with them again.

Favourite Cities: Edinburgh. Lille. Reykjavik. Cannes. Budapest. Paris. Dublin. Our guests: We aim to always make our guests feel at home in our place. We prefer it when our guests feel comfortable enough to sit and chat with us, join us to eat (or drink) or even just to watch tv. We'd like our guests to feel like they can come into our living room and throw themselves on the couch to watch tv or read a book, as they would in their own home. We want all of our guests to feel relaxed and at ease in our home, so we prefer to keep things as informal as possible. Our hosts: If we're staying places it more than likely means we're on holidays. So, we prefer to stay in spaces that are owned and hosted by people with a similar approach to ourselves,i.e., where the rule book is not too dense, the atmosphere is never tense and where the overall experience is informal, relaxed and friendly. Life's too short for anything else. About us: We're together 11 years now. We're a pretty level headed, and easy to get along with, couple who enjoy mostly the simple pleasures in life such as good food, walks with our dogs, a nice glass of wine on the couch, all sorts of music, holidays in France, strolls along the river, a good read and finally, the company and conversation of anyone we can call a friend, whether newly-made or long-suffering... Motto (Borrowed from a tv commercial): "Senza cuore saremmo solo macchine" : "Without heart we would be mere machines"
