The Space

We offer a very comfortable bed in a homely but modern ground floor townhouse-like apartment within a quiet development in Trim, Co. Meath (i.e..: County Meath *not* County Dublin). Owner occupiers are a friendly couple, one Irish, one French. The accommodation is gay friendly but we'll never discriminate either way!

The bed is a double which our visitors always describe as being very comfortable and usually remark upon how well they sleep, so hopefully you'll also find it to your liking should you stay with us. Although the room is on the small side, it is a very restful and warm space which can boast plenty of pillows to help you sleep comfortably and extra blankets for those colder nights - but even then the excellent heating will probably make those redundant. We also have a bit of storage for our visitors’ belongings with bedside locker, and a small wardrobe. The floors are wooden so ideal if you have an aversion to carpets (there are no carpets anywhere in the property). We also provide a bedside reading lamp, hair dryer, iPod docking station, mirror and plenty of books (should you need one) in the apartment to keep you lightly entertained before you nod off. Some guests leave books behind, which is absolutely fine with a bookworm like Paul, but please don't remove any titles from the apartment without asking. Some of the books on our shelves may mean more to us than just paper and print. (", )

NB: We do not wish to accommodate additional guests on the sofa in the living room. The double bed in the guest room sleeps two and this is unfortunately as many people as we can accommodate. It also means that if two people book, you book with the understanding that you will be sleeping in the same bed.

Guest Access

Kitchen, Living Room, Bathroom & Garden:

Our open plan kitchen/ dining room and living room is more than comfortable enough should you want to sit back and just watch TV or fix yourself a tea, any one of a variety of coffees from the Nespresso machine or maybe even something stronger in the evening if you're so inclined. Weather permitting you could also sit outside in the garden to relax and watch the occasional hot air balloon float overhead or just enjoy the peace and quiet offered by life in a small countryside town. Unless our cocker spaniels are wrestling on the paving, in which case you may want to watch that. We've just completely revamped the garden to change it from having gravel paths and a lawn, to an all paved area, surrounded by borders of lush planting. We hope that the weather will allow you to enjoy it as much as we try to.

As there is only one bathroom you would be sharing this with ourselves, however a very large hot water tank would ensure no unexpected cold showers for anyone concerned. An excellent water pump also provides adequate pressure to ensure an invigorating shower. The shower is fitted above the bath, which is also an option should guests feel the need to unwind - provided you warn the others present so there are no bathroom emergencies. One caveat is that we'd really appreciate it if our guests did not shower after 11pm, as the pump and sounds from the bathroom can be loud and our bedroom is directly behind the shower wall.

There is an excellent WiFi connection available, but we need to note that the connection is only good for a certain number of devices at any one time. Please do not use more than your fair share of the bandwidth. Please use your judgement when it comes to video streaming as it may affect your host's connectivity.

Interaction with Guests

Although we might sometimes be out for an evening or away for a few days over the course of a weekend leaving you to your own devices, we'll usually be around the apartment and as the kitchen and living area are open plan this means that we will be seeing a good deal of each other.

So, we like to keep things relaxed and informal and usually do get to spend quite some time chatting with our guests exchanging stories, having a laugh together and often we'll be found doing all of this over a nice glass of wine. If you don't like our wine or, if indeed, you feel that you might like our wine a little too much, we're unlikely to ever offend by refusing the offer of a glass from a bottle of your own. "What's good for the goose, is good for the gander," as the saying goes.

The Neighborhood

Our place is just five minutes walk from the River Boyne and many of the attractions pictured including the Knightsbrook Hotel, Spa and Golf Resort, the ruins of an Abbey, a ruined hospital and the very special "Marcie's" (Signed: Regans) excellent traditional Irish pub on the banks of the Boyne - overlooking the river and the hospital ruin. Follow the winding riverside path for a picturesque stroll through the Abbey ruin and onwards against the flow of the river, as the path meanders its way into one of Ireland's prettiest heritage towns - arriving at the magnificent Trim Castle ruin which dominates the town.

Getting Around

Trim Castle is just 20 minutes walk along the river from our home. There's also a Bus Eireann stop right outside our development which will take you direct to Dublin City Centre, every hour, or every two hours on a Sunday. The development itself is a private estate and it is one of several distinct private housing developments which run alongside the main thoroughfare leading (from the Dublin Rd) to the Knightsbrook Hotel, Golf Resort and Spa complex. The entrance to the development is easily spotted as there are two large stone arches acting as landmarks (see photo).

Trim can offer you an excellent countryside base for exploring the counties of Meath, Dublin, Kildare, West Meath and beyond. Also of particular interest in the area is the world famous Hill of Tara, Newgrange passage tombs, Loughcrew passage tombs, Loughcrew Gardens, Bective Abbey, Bellinter House, Killeen Castle (venue of the Solheim Cup 2011) and many, many more attractions.

The bus to Dublin runs every hour (every two hours on Sunday) & every half hour at peak times.

Note: We just want to specify that we have two very well behaved, beautiful Cocker Spaniels and we would expect our guests to understand that the dogs are important members of this little family and that we would want them to be treated as they would treat you, with both affection and warmth. So, if you don't like dogs, this is definitely not the accommodation for you.

House Rules

We don't have anything outlandish or unreasonable here. Mostly, these "rules" are just snippets of the most basic common courtesies and common sense practises one might expect from a guest in their home.

It is your business if you like to smoke, but our home is strictly non-smoking, so smoking is only permitted outside, preferably in the back garden. There is an ashtray in the garden (ask if you can't find it) not for the ash, but for cigarette butts. You're welcome to smoke outside as and when you like, but please do not stub out your cigarette on the paving or on the walls.

We don't accommodate casual visitors so please do not invite anyone unless you have cleared it with us first. We would be unlikely to refuse you inviting a friend to visit, but we would not allow any overnight stays after the booking has been agreed.

If the booking needs to be amended/extended after the fact, please do that through the usual Airbnb process.

Guests are requested not to bring newly acquainted strangers back to our home. Through Airbnb we can verify who our guests are before we meet them. We cannot do that with random strangers so we ask that you do not take that risk with our property.

If we are there to clean up the breakfast things we do not expect you to do any clean up. However, if we are not at home when you eat or use the kitchen please do tidy after yourself.

If you use it, wash it and put it away or just put it in the dishwasher.
If you drop it, pick it up.
If you spill it, wipe it up.
If you make it dirty, clean it.
If you break it, offer to replace it.

Some of these can be applied to the bathroom too. Basically just be mindful that, while you're a very welcome guest in our place and we want you to feel completely comfortable, it is our *home*.
