About this listing
Stylish and newly renovated houseboat on a side canal of the main Amstel River.
Our houseboat is situated in the heart of central historical Amsterdam. The Nieuwe Prinsengracht is a side canal of the Amstel, which is the main canal, and is off the beaten track of the big tourist canal cruise boats. This makes this area very suitable for a quiet stay, although you are in de centre of Amsterdam .
Whenever we have to stay at our boat in Amsterdam we always enjoy the peace and quite of living on the water. It always fees like a holiday whenever we are here! Swans and other birds pass our boat and come to see if there is some bread left for them and on summer days you can see people enjoying a day on the water on their own boats cruising the canals.
Our houseboat is approximately 42m2 and everything you need is there. There is a modern kitchen with microwave, oven, dishwasher and stove. A washing machine and dryer are there for you to use. The living room has a table with chairs, a large and very comfortable couch and cable TV and WIFI internet are available. In the bathroom you will find a large bath with shower, wash basin and toilet. The bedroom has a closet and more room to hang your belongings and a large twin bed. The length of the beds is 220 cm so also tall people should be comfortable here!
The houseboat lies a short walk from the metro station which takes you to the Central Station of Amsterdam in 2 stops (5 minutes). Trains from Amsterdam Central Station to Schiphol Airport bring you every 10 minutes within 20 minutes to the airport (very convenient so don't bother the hassle of an expensive Amsterdam taxi).
Also the Hermitage museum the Rijksmuseum and the world famous van Goghmuseum are in the vicinity. For those who love to shop and enjoy nice cafes and restaurants, you can all find this in our neighborhood. We've also put some information in our houseboat with some tips, to get you started...
And of course it will be nice for you to know that our houseboat was completely renovated in 2011.
Our guests will have the entire houseboat to themselves. Everything inside you can use. Also there is cable tv, free WIFI and a printer.
Interaction with Guests
We will be there in person to welcome you and hand you the keys. We will answer all your questions and are stand by 24/7
The houseboat is only 3 stops away by metro from the Central Station.
Please respect our home as you would take of your own house and keep noise to a minimum after 10PM.
We had a wonderful stay at this delightful houseboat. The houseboat itself was very clean and well laid out with everything you need. The beds and couches were comfortable. The location feels very safe and is very quiet. It is a bit further out of the main tourist strip which is good as you do not have tourist boats going past. There is a tram nearby. A great spot for a stay.
All the arrangements were well managed and the handover went smoothly.
We loved the houseboat. It was quite large and had a separate bedroom (we have stayed in a houseboat before and the bedroom and living room were separated by a curtain). It was very clean and comfortable. The views of the birds on the canal were great. There was plenty of room for the two of us.
Simon met us on the houseboat and was great. Staying on a houseboat in Amsterdam is a very cool, unique experience. Ducks were outside our window everyday. Boats would pass by during the day, but at night it would be completely quiet. This place has all the comforts of a house on land. It even has a washer/dryer machine, and although it can take 4 hours to finish 1 load of laundry, it was still nice to have. Great place!
We really enjoyed the experience of living on the houseboat. Great location, simple accommodations, and a true local experience. Easy walk to the city center and very close to the Botanical Gardens, which we loved!
A beautiful home base in a great location... we walked everywhere... to the museums, along the Amstel, to great eateries. Carolien, Simon and Jolanda were responsive with advise before we arrived and helpful with great tips about where to eat – the cafe/bakery a block away became a daily stop. Thank you for the home away from home. It was such a beautiful retreat after a long day out and so quiet at night... we slept well! I would stay here again in a heart beat, and am making plans for next spring with my husband!
We had an amazing authentic experience staying in this houseboat. It was very clean and cozy, everything you need was provided and had a very homely feel to it. We appreciated how perfectly located it was on a quiet and safe canal/street away from the hustle and bustle, but walkable distance to the inner city with the main attractions. There's a street full of restaurants down the road and a grocery store around the corner to make a homemade meal in their fully functional kitchen. Definitely would recommend this place to everyone and would stay there again! Thank you!
Exactly as described. Modern, comfortable space for a couple. Open and airy. Well located for exploring Amsterdam on foot. Quiet neighborhood close to cafes, bars, and restaurants. Part of the charm is watching boats quietly pass by.
Owner's rep met us at the boat and was helpful then, as we'll as with our subsequent inquiries such as arranging a taxi to the airport.
Great experience! When next in AMS, we'll try to stay here.

About the Host, Simon & Jolanda
Hello, we are Simon & Jolanda from Amsterdam.
Simon is an entrepreneur and Jolanda is a flight attendant. We love our houseboat in the canals of Amsterdam but we mainly live in our house in Amsterdam. Therefor we thought why not open our door for more people to have a true Amsterdam Experience....?
We love to stroll along the canals of the "Jordaan" neighborhood, go to the food markets that are there on the weekends, have coffee with dutch apple pie and enjoy lunches and dinners in the many great restaurants. Also you can find us cruising the canals on our boat together with some friends.
