Casa Parra is a charming three-story abode that sits in the very heart of Guanajuato. It is within mere seconds walking distance to most of the town's attractions. Enjoy a rooftop terrace with panoramic views and all the modern comforts of home.
Casa Parra is a charming, authentic three-story abode in the very heart of the colonial town of Guanajuato, Mexico, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The house dates back to the late 1800s and has been recently updated to provide all measure of modern convenience whilst preserving the integrity, style and material elements of the structure as it was originally built. The house sits adjacent to Plaza Mexiamora, one of Guanajuato's most inviting plazas, and is located only a two minute walk from the Jardin, Guanajuato's town center. Theaters, museums, restaurants and cafes abound and are located a very short walk in any direction from the house. The house itself is located at street level, has three full bathrooms, 2 full bedrooms, large rooftop terrace, dining room, fully equipped kitchen and several seating areas spread across three stories. Prior to the recent, complete renovations, the home was updated in the 1980s with the assistance of Manuel Parra, a renowned Mexican architect most famous for his work in Mexico City. Manuel Parra was a friend of the previous owner and added several of his trademark flourishes to the home, which have been left intact. This home offers the best of Spanish Colonial architecture - high, beamed ceilings, thick adobe walls, balconies and terraces, and a bougainvillea lined rooftop with a panoramic view of the entire town. Come stay in the heart of Mexico.
Guanajuato is a pedestrian friendly city and most sights and attractions are within walking distance. Taxis and buses are also plentiful. Driving in Guanajuato is not recommended.
No house parties are permitted. Otherwise, full use and enjoyment of the house is expected. Respect the neighbors please. Also, please be conscious of water usage.
My son arrived first and early in the morning to Guanajuato so had several hours to kill before the house was ready. Daniel made every accommodation to that fact and allowed him to drop off his bags early. My son was the first to meet Daniel and his care taker Dylan and said they were both warm, helpful, and informative. I only talked to Dylan his caretaker on the phone, and can say without hesitation that he is one of the nicest and and most helpful people I have had the pleasure to meet.
The house is clean, well equipped, and on a quiet street( for Mexican standards) and is close to everything you will want to see and do in Guanajuato. The interior is reflective of someone with good taste and is not overly cluttered. The location is great with no through traffic in front of the house, but is an easy walk to all the main attractions.
Daniel was a wonderful host. He was always very responsive, caring, and generous. He has a manager available to welcome guests and to help with any questions that may arise about the city or the functioning of the house. The manager Dylan was very helpful and provided suggestions on museums and musical venues, as well as a long, detailed list of restaurants.
Stepping through the front door of Casa Parra is amazing. Daniel's house is carefully and authentically restored (as is shown in the photographs). It is filled with gleaming tile work, thick wooden beams and doors, and beautiful art works. We felt the unnecessary clutter of our normal life fall away. The rooftop has a jaw-dropping view in all directions and is equipped with a sound-system, small refrigerator, sink, and grill. We spent many happy hours up there enjoying the perfect weather and watching life unfold around us. Each morning we awoke to the sounds of distant roosters, church bells, and on school days, young children playing up in the plaza.
Guanajuato is a very historic and fascinating city. It is filled with musicians, creative artists, young students, and older academics. Casa Parra is located very close to its lively heart, the Jardin de la Union, but on a very quiet pedestrian street. The proximity to the center is a real plus, as the hills of Guanajuato are daunting if one has to shop and carry groceries up a steep hill or contemplate going out for the evening and coming home in the dark. We were able to easily walk to all of the museums, restaurants, grocery shops, and the thrilling, weekly symphony concerts at the Teatro Principal and intimate recitals in other venues.
Overall a unique and surprising experience!
This home is in a great location, an easy walk to and from the Jardin de la Union and just about everything you might want to see in the Centro. The home is near a lovely and quiet plaza and has terrific views from the rooftop deck. The house is beautiful and true to the architecture of the region. The caretaker very responsive and helpful. Terrific house, terrific city -- highly recommended.
Daniel was a fantastic host and gave us many great recommends for local cafes, bars, restaurants and sights. Check-in was easy and he even provided us with a local cell phone. His house is beautifully appointed and offers authentic Mexican decor with all modern conveniences. The roof deck offers beautiful panoramas of the city. The house is centrally located to everything and made waking to sights practical and easy. We met his local friends at many establishments and they all sing his praises and looked out for us. Highly recommend!
My family and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Casa Parra in Guanajuato City. The house was exactly as pictured and in pristine condition. The views from the rooftop terrace over the city at sunset were spectacular! The location was ideal, just a 5 minutes stroll to Jardin Union which meant we could walk to nearly every historic destination in the city. There were plenty of great restaurants nearby and a fantastic craft beer store just across the little plaza from us. No car necessary. We found a great English speaking driver to show us Guanajuato's famous mines, the Santa Rosa ceramic factory and other points of interest outside of the historic centro. He also drove us to San Miguel de Allende for the next leg of our trip. The property manager was there to greet us upon arrival and very responsive when the coffee maker died mid-stay. We would definitely recommend this house if you are planning to visit Guanajuato.
What can I say other than the house was great, Daniel was great, Guanajuato was great. The rooftop patio at about 5pm when all the church bells are ringing, sipping wine as you gaze out at the domes and colorful houses that perch on the hillsides, well, not much else like that.
Take the trip and book this house, it is totally finished and everything works great.
