Spacious 1BR, tastefully furnished with modern charm and all amenities, in family townhouse, located in historic street in Mt. Pleasant. Large living room, generously cut & recently renovated kitchen and BR w/walk-in closet. 2-8 minutes to restaurants & coffee shops, stores, bus&metro, bike share, large park for recreation.
The apartment is meant to be rented out - so you will find a clean and comfortable space awaiting you, with no owner-specific clutter, ideal for the professional visitor to DC and/or the couple or small family looking to enjoy the capital.
The apartment features a beautiful set of exposed brick walls, contrasting nicely the modern furniture, the large flat-screen, and the just recently re-done kitchen. The bedroom includes a super-comfortable luxurious kingsized bed, plenty of storage space, as well as a modern desk and great spaces to work, write, think, create. Despite being a basement apartment, the many windows provide lots of light. The generously cut and furnished open-space living room includes a sleeper sofa (for 2) and other amenities. The kitchen is large, light and spacious and includes a 6-8 person dining table, as well as all modern tools (microwave, oven, cooktop, washer/dryer, dishwasher, refrigerator/freezer, disposal, cookware, toaster, coffee maker, dishes, flatware, glasses, and kitchen utensils) and large dining area.
Very comfortable, the apartment is part of a 1910 Victorian townhouse from 1910. W/DR, TV, WIFI, and books-to-read are included.
Our guests have access to the whole apartment. It's yours - while you are here!
Interaction with Guests
We live in the same building, and are available, if there is interest, for questions and guidance about Washington and its museums, galleries, and entertainement options. The apartment is fully separated and accessible through a private entrance - so if you wish no interaction, that's just as fine with us.
Attractive urban setting in the heart of the mixed and charming Victorian-stye Mount Pleasant neighborhood, with a farmer's market on Saturdays, less than 5 minutes walking-distance to local stores and many restaurants and cafes, and a few minutes further to major retail outlets (Target, Marshall, Staples, Best Buy, Washington Sport Club, Starbucks, etc). Nearest Metro Station: Columbia Heights (5 blocks), green and yellow lines. Bus station and bike rental station just a few minutes walk from the house.
For pictures see:https://www.airbnb.com/locations/washington-dc/mount-pleasant - They reflect the neighborhood and the atmosphere ver well.
The apartment is located in a quiet leafy street, just a few minutes away from great public transport and with parking available as needed.
If you come from National (Reagan) Airport: Getting to the apartment will take you 20-30 minutes or so, by taking the metro (take red line to Gallery Place, and change to green/yellow line, exiting at Columbia Heights, and walking from there), or 15 minutes by cab.
If you come from Dulles or Baltimore Airport: Taking a cab will take you 45+ minutes (tell the cab driver to take Rock Creek Parkway, the "Zoo Exit").
If you come by bus: Most inter-city buses go to Dupont Circle (5 minutes by cab) or to Union station (see below/if you come by train).
If you come by train to Union Station: Either take a cab (15 minutes) or the metro (red line to Gallery place, change to green or yellow and exit Columbia Heights, walk for 5-10 minutes to our house). (website hidden)
If you come by car: We will have a parking permit for on-the-street parking for you, or you can park behind the house.
Getting around within the city:
The apartment is 5-10 walking minutes away from a well connected metro station (green/yellow line) and from several buses: 42, H3, H4, H8 to Cleveland Park.
Capital Bike share station is a block away
Other Things to Note
From our quiet neighborhood street, it's only a few steps to Rock Creek Park, with great options for running, cycling, and pretty much any other outdoor sport.
The local library is only a few minutes away, as is the National Zoo.
Adams Morgan, the local multi-cultural hotbed for cool restaurants, cocktails and dancing, is within walking distance, just as great for evening fun as is the equally close U-Street/14th Street Corridor.
No smoking on the premises.
In respecting fellow travelers' allergies, we unfortunately do not allow pets in the apartment.
Kommen gerne wieder :)
This is our 2nd time staying at Mr. Volkemer's DC B&B...
As usual our stay was comfortable and relaxing. This will always be our first choice when staying in DC....
I highly recommend both, Dietmar and his 1 BR apartment. The apartment is surprisingly large (I guess 700 sft or so), very well equipped and maintained. Whatever one needs is there (really, everything) and Dietmar is just one floor away to take care of any question you may have. It has been a great and wonderful experience staying here.
This was our first experience with airbnb, and it was so good that our next airbnb experience will have a lot to live up to! First, the apartment was incredibly spacious. It had a nice sized bedroom, a bathroom, good sized living room, and a fully equipped kitchen. It was very clean and had new and high quality appliances. It felt like an IKEA Model home. Dietmar, our host, was very accommodating and available. He went out of his way to help us with things like: how to order a cab, printing up our vouchers and airline tickets, and making sure I had some extra things that I needed. The kitchen was stocked with all the necessary condiments, every kitchen utensil you could think of, and some food items: including beer and ice cream!
I booked this Airbnb for my parents, who were visiting DC for the weekend. They insisted they write their own review, which I've inserted below:
I have been reflecting on our stay at Dietmar's apartment and wanted to share what we thought: It was amazing! It was all that you could ask for in a very nice hotel, but even more. It was very tastefully decorated - we loved the European design. Better than a concierge, Dietmar had anything that we could ask for already on hand: An amazingly comfortable bed, food, movies, reading material, toiletries and much more.
Everything was immaculate. He even had umbrellas, which came in handy due to the heavy rains that we experienced on our first day there. There were dishes and utensils that allowed us to have family over and cook together, hosting a family brunch on the last day we were there. Afterwards, we all walked to the zoo, which was only a few blocks away.
There were movies to watch and great reading material, even a new newspaper from our first day there. I told Justin that Dietmar must have the "gift" of hospitality. We had a very restful and comfortable stay at this apartment and would stay again in a heartbeat.
It was a great pleasure staying at Dietmar's place during our one week stay in Washington. We couldn't have chosen a better place! The location was great, the appartment was very spacious and perfectly equipped with everything we needed and more, and Dietmar was an extremely forthcoming host. We can only recommend this place and will surely choose the same place if we visit Washington again.
This apartment was just as described in the pictures. It is very clean, modern and the host is there for any questions you may have. I would recommend this apartment for those who wake up early, as you can hear every step very loudly from the apartment above. Overall, we had a great stay here and it is in a great location.
