Our 4 nights at La Selva de Orqideas were exactly the right mix of simplicity, luxury, and warm fun. Because of a vacancy, they upgraded me to a new 2nd-floor unit with balcony. It was lovely. Chito and Juan were fantastic (and Erika, via Skype), and I put them to the test, I now realize: I decided to dye my hair purple while using their facilities. (but I did clean up after myself!) Not only did they tolerate this, but they joined in the fun by commenting and teasing warmly. The food was excellent, the pace always relaxed for guests, they had endless patience with my limited Spanish, good recommendations, always a smile, great location surrounded by trees, orchids, and birds, with the town 2 blocks away and the business of Tulum just 20 minutes away. I highly recommend this to anyone!
Erika and Chito were amazing hosts! They gave us great suggestions on where to go, whether it was for dinner or day trips. The room we stayed in was lovely, and their breakfast was delicious. They have a great piece of land that is private and safe. We would definitely recommend staying here if you don't want the crowds of the Tulum beach strip.
We have just come back home after a 10 days holiday we spent in the Tulum area. We stayed in Macario Gomez where Erika and Chito were our hosts. There are no words to describe how great people are they and how amazing our accommodation was! Our cabana was beautiful and we enjoyed every moment of our holiday thanks to Erika, Chito and Juan. They are great hosts! Helped us in any way,no matter we wanted to explore the surrounding areas or just to chill out, also the tasty breakfast they served every morning. They have two dogs, three cats, two peacocks and you can also see many pretty birds. Those who love animals and the nature it's a perfect spot. As the village is about 20km from Tulum where are the beaches and shops it is worth renting a car, though.
We highly recommend Erika's place to stay, you definitely won't regret it. The best place we have ever spent our holiday.
We had a fantastic stay here with Erika and Chito, it is a truly beautiful place and they are great hosts! The little village Macario Gomez is great and it was really nice to experience it, the setting of the cabanas and house feel like you are in the middle of the jungle, waking up to birds each morning followed by an amazing breakfast cooked by Erika was an unforgettable experience. I would really recommend staying here as something a bit more adventurous than staying in Tulum. It is definitely worth having a car, we didn't actually have one but shared taxis and grabbed lifts with other travellers, some nice locals also picked us up after some confusion with the buses! It was really relaxing and peaceful and we took some beautiful photos. Hope to return one day!
Erika y Chito son excelentes anfitriones, nos encanto quedarnos en su hermoso rincon de selva! Si tienen o rentan un auto, la casa es muy bien ubicada para descubrir Yucatan despues de un desayuno rico!
Erika and Chito are amazing hosts, we loved staying in their beautiful bit of jungle. If you have or rent a car, the house is really well located to discover Yucatan, after a great breakfast!

We really and truly loved staying at Erika and Chito's place! Their place is about a 20 minute drive from the Tulum beaches located in a small village, and it offers a really quiet, authentic experience. Tulum is bustling with such a festive vibe, but their place lets you experience that WITH the peace and quiet of an off-the-beaten-path vacation. First of all, their home and their cabanas are fantastic! The design of it all is gorgeous. The cabanas are super private and romantic and the home has everything you could want - hammocks, pool, deck chairs, and outdoor kitchen. Moreover, Erika and Chito are a wealth of information! Our trip would have been far worse without their guidance. They directed us to the best public beaches, the best cenotes (which are definitely not in the guidebook!), the best ruins, and the best restaurants (including an amazing one just two blocks from their home - we ate fajitas, empanadas, and 3 beers - all for 170 pesos!). We would have wasted a lot of time searching without these two. :-) And they are so generous! Every morning we were given a gorgeous breakfast - eggs, fresh fruit, fresh juice, bread and jam, French roast coffee, and even beans and cactus one day! It was such a nice gesture and always started the day off on the best foot. I could go on and on, but let me just say that I really recommend Erika's place to everyone traveling to Quintana Roo!!
I cannot begin to describe my experience staying with Erika and her Husband Chito. My girlfriend and I spent 9 day's with these beautiful people, and on the last day, it felt as if we were leaving family members behind.
Our room was the cheapest of the 3 they have on offer,up a wooden spiral staircase overlooking the pool and the garden. It had everything we needed. The morning breakfast was prepared every morning by Erika, and never failed to fill us up. She has her own drawn out map of the area, and every recommendation of where to go was so good. Wherever we would visit, we could mention Erika and Chitos names and receive a warm welcome.
The cheapest way to get around is by renting a car, we were lucky to share rides most days with several other guests who we became very close with.
Macario Gomez is situated close by to some incredible ruins and cenotes, and driving distance to see the turtles!
Waking up in the morning to the dogs, peacocks, wild pig (pumba) cats and all other wildlife was a great experience. One of the highlights was Erikas husband, who is Mayan, giving me a homemade necklace on my birthday and taking me hiking and exploring deep in the jungle.
I couldn't recommend this place more, and I hope to come back one day! Thank you guys!

I am a Hungarian born in Slovakia with 25 years living in the US, now in Mexico. Moving to the Yucatan Peninsula has been my dream for the past 17 years, and I was able to finally follow my dream and build my very private paradise here. I love nature, animals, jungles, cenotes, and the sea. My husband is a local Mayan, who knows the area very well. We can give you lots of advise about places to visit in the area.
