A sunny room with a view is reserved for a woman on a solo adventure. Our quiet and secluded location is great for inspiring new creations and relaxing in a peaceful setting. Walk in native prairie and forests with the company of song birds and wildlife; canoe local waters, explore local art and music in nearby river towns.

The space
Guest Accommodations
Our home is an early 1900’s historic home and we have kept the flavor of that era in our restoration efforts. The house has original wood floors and woodwork, mostly antique furnishings and a claw foot tub in the bathroom.

The room faces south and gets lots of light. It has a view of the yard and forested valley beyond. There is a full size bed, bookshelf, small desk and large closet.

Bathroom facilities include a full bathroom on the first floor (tub only - no shower), and a composting outhouse with a contemplative view. In the first floor bathroom you can kick back in the tub and soak with a view of the prairie.

Our shower is outside, with a wide open view of the prairie! We have shampoo, conditioner, a hair drier and towels for your use.

Sorry no pets in this room to keep it accessible to people with allergies.

LGBT and people of color friendly home!

We have avoided logging our forest so that there will again be big (old growth) trees on this landscape. We are also restoring a remnant savanna, and have planted farm fields to prairie plants. Its working - we have lots of wildlife! You can see bears, deer, fox, fisher, raccoon, eagles, owls, fireflies, diverse insect species, and many more critters.

We invite you to come rejuvenate in the fresh air, bird song and beauty.

You are welcome to use the kitchen for cooking and there is a small fridge designated for guest use as well. The kitchen is stocked with the basic pots, pans and implements. Outside there is a grill and wood for grilling – we find the flavor from a wood fired barbecue to be outstanding.

The front porch is a classic for relaxing and playing music, and if you are a musician, there is a guitar and jembe drum available for your use. We have a small fire pit in the yard and wood available if you want to enjoy an evening fire.

We are usually around working in the garden or tending trees in our small, start-up tree nursery, and are happy to give you directions or ideas for activities. When I am away from the farm I will provide you with a cell number to call in case you need anything.

Guest access
The kitchen is also available for guest use.

OUTDOOR NATURE ACTIVITIES:

Guided Tours
Naturalist tours of the Chippewa River, local wildflowers and/or birds can be arranged in advance.

The Chippewa River
The Chippewa River is a large and mostly wild river just 10 minutes from the homestead. A great way to spend a hot afternoon is canoeing or kayaking down the Chippewa. You can borrow our canoes or rent them from a local outfitter (which includes a pick up at your pull out point). Portions of the river travel through the Tiffany Wildlife Area (see below).

Tiffany Wildlife Area
The Tiffany Wildlife Area is one of the largest preserves (13,000 acres) in Wisconsin can be accessed from several locations with only 10-15 minute drive. It is an excellent area for hiking, birding, wildlife viewing, cross country skiing, and hunting. The Chippewa Savanna chapter of The Prairie Enthusiasts hosts birding and wildlife viewing tours via a small train that runs through a section of the area. (URL HIDDEN)

CULTURE
We have many artists and musicians in our community and as a result there are opportunities to see hear live music and see local art. The following is a listing of some of the venues:

Liberty Tree Farm
Liberty Tree Farm is a rustic, relaxed event venue just outside the village of Stockholm, WI, on the bluffs of the Mississippi River. The main stage is built into the end of an old barn with a grassy meadow serving as the seating area. Benches and picnic tables are situated in the shade of the trees and warmth of the sun. The inside of the barn also has a stage and seating for rainy days and more intimate performances. Trails, dotted with sitting areas, meander through a wooded landscape, connecting open spaces suitable for all manner of celebrations. Concerts, large and small, give folks a chance to visit spring, summer and fall. For more information and concert listings see (URL HIDDEN)
