Mulawarman Ubud is arguably the best place to use as a base if you're visiting Bali; if you are looking for culture, comfort, nature and inspiration. Mulawarman is surrounded by most of the things that bring people to Bali - scenic rice fields, small villages, ancient temples, palaces, and amazing restaurants (cheap local Indonesian, raw food, vegan, organic etc.). Our central location in Ubud makes it easy to get to the mountains, beaches, and major towns.
For those who want to discover an "Authentically Balinese" luxury guest-house still preserved from the "tourist invasion" and which, according to the guidebooks, is one of the best places in town, come to Mulawarman. Situated 25 kilometers northeast of Denpasar, Ubud is nestled in the green folds of countryside carpeted with terraced rice fields and carved by deep river gorges. Despite the increase in tourism Ubud conforms the image of being an example of the place where tourism development is harmoniously integrated into the village life.
Guest will have access to the shared reading room upstairs in the main building and a shared eating area. There are no refrigerator in the rooms, but if you need to leave something in the fridge you can use the kitchen fridge.
Ibu Wayan will be at the guest house to greet you or one of her staff. She will also make a delicious breakfast in the morning too for you. So yes, Ibu will be around to help you with anything you might need.
I love my neighborhood because it is quite but, I can easily walk or get a motorbike taxi to go do something. While you're in my neighborhood you should do some yoga at the yoga barn or taksu. Have a massage at one of the many little places....Zen spa is my favorite. Go Antonio Blanco Painting Museum. Of course visit the Ubud Palace go to the temple. Then do some exciting shopping and bargaining at the Ubud Market. Take a balinese cooking class. Have some gelato at Gelato Secrets. Then try to decide where to have dinner.......so many choices so much good food. Where ever you choose to eat don't miss eating at Sari Organic Restaurant in the rice fields this place is great for early sunset dinners and only 10-15min walk from Mulawarman. No Car access to Sari Organic you must walk or motorbike, amazing walk through the rice fields.
You have to go to Monkey forest and visit all the monkeys and please have someone in your group buy bananas. Now get the camera ready because it's going to be funny or a little scary depending on how much you like monkeys running to you and jumping all over you! Also only a 10minute walk from your room is the very hot and very cold baths with regular pool and sauna at the tjampuhan hotel that you can use for a small fee around $7 for the day. Walk down Jalan Monkey forest , that is the name of the main shopping road and there are a lot of restaurants, massages, and shopping on this road.

Very nice stay in this little nest close to Ubud's main attractions !
Rooms are clean, simple and confortable. Wifi only in lunch corner
Ibu Wayan is very welcoming, makes the best pancakes ever!
She can arrange everything for you from food to massage or daily tours!
I will come back if im going to ubud again!
Special thanks to her helpful and smiling staff as well as Made one of the local drivers working there :)
I had an okay stay here in room #1, which I was told was the best room. It was an authentic home type stay and comfortable. If you're not expecting a high end stay it's fine and close to a couple of awesome cafés with great views - pomegranate cafe and sari organik. It's probably just a little overpriced for what it is since the you can hear everything in the next room, the wifi doesn't work in the room, and the bath runs out of hot water. The owner is very focused on business and is always working an angle for profit - trying to sell CDs, coffee, and rides to places. but it is a business after all :))
Wayan has one of the biggest hearts in the world! She instantly became a dear friend, and we cherished every day we spent at Mulawarman. Wayan was happy to answer our questions about the Balinese culture, and arranged for us to go on an amazing volcano hike which was incredible! She took us to the best kecak ceremony, arranged for us a phenomenal driver who also became a great friend. His name is Made and we loved our days visiting the temples, coffee plantations and were overjoyed to see woodworkers carving statues, jewelry makers, and batik artists. Wayan's cooking class was also a highlight....we feel her cooking is better than any traditional Balinese meal you could eat at a restaurant. She is so wise, loving, and very passionate about taking care of anyone who walks into Mulawarman. Many people find it very healing at Mulawarman, as did we. It is very quiet, peaceful, very comfortable beds (with mosquito nets!), and beautiful rooms. We absolutely cannot recommend it enough.
We had a great stay at Mulwarman! We were greeted immediately by Ibu Wayan upon entering the hideaway, and served a delicious mixed juice drink. Our room was beautiful and clean, just as they're shown on the images, directly facing the rice fields. Located among the rice fields - this provided us opportunities to walk around and try a great selection of vegan restaurants available in the area. It was also a close walking distance to the Ubud Palace and market, enabling us to seek out and watch the Kecak dance easily during the evening. And the banana pancakes served to us for breakfast was unlike anything I've ever tried before! Combined with some pandan leaves, it was absolutely delicious. We would have loved to stay another night if we could. We recommend Mulawarman to anyone seeking a relaxing and quiet stay in Ubud. Many thanks to Ibu Wayan for making sure we had an enjoyable stay while in Bali!
Lovely stay at Mulawarman. Our room was spotless and comfortable, with high traditional ceilings and nice touches of Indonesian art. Loved the balcony that looked out onto the rice fields and lush greenery. Ibu herself is very welcoming and motherly. She made wonderful breakfast every morning (green pancakes, black rice porridge) and taught us some vegetarian Indonesian dishes by request.
