The house manager Kim did not make us feel very welcome. She was rude, barked at us for being late (our flight was delayed by an hour and we didn't realize that she'd be waiting for (email hidden) next to the house), and nearly broke my hand with her ingenuine handshake. We definitely won't stay there again.
Having said that, the house itself was exactly as advertised (clean, organized, safe).
As a host we were ready for these guests at the time that they requested to be checked in. Communication is very important. I would encourage all guests to provide their hosts with updates on their travel plans or minimally pass along a flight itinerary so that a host can track flights for delays. Or choose an arrival time that you are capable of honoring.
We do our best to prepare for our guests and be on time. These particular guests stated that "we will be there at 10pm". The husband missed his flight and didn't bother to call. The wife's flight was delayed. Again, no update. When the host was finally able to track down one of the guests she was informed that they had to wait for each other at the airport to share a ride.
We love guests who are courteous. We love guests who communicate.
Kim was very understanding when we had to reschedule our check in time (due to 4 month old baby complications). She met us a few hours later, and we went and killed time getting Voodoo Donuts, yum. Kim went above and beyond, providing a bag of books and toys for our toddler, and even a pup tent! My husband was a little concerned about a shared bathroom, but it worked out really well; we used the downstairs one instead once. Same thing with the laundry - sharing was not an issue.
Our neighbors in the house were very considerate and everything was kept clean and neat. It was a pleasure to stay here. We did not spend much time in the neighborhood, but rather crossed the river and spent most of our time in the west side of the city, or out in the woods around Columbus Gorge. Nothing we wanted to see was very far from here.
This place was great! It was very central, pretty close to the tram, and very accessible by bike. It was a great value for my conference trip, and the folks running it were very professional and efficient. I'd definitely stay here again, and check out the cool neighborhood instead of spending so much time conferencing :)
The Walking Liberty Guest House was a wonderful place to stay while I was in Portland. The room was a much-needed sanctuary for me, with a desk, couch, fast internet and a comfortable bed. The host, Kim, arrived promptly at the time we'd arranged to give me the full tour and made me feel very welcome. I'll certainly be back next time I'm in town.
Great Airbnb experience! Listing is exactly what you get. Great location and great place to go back to to crash.
The Walking Liberty Guest House is a terrific place to stay. The location was perfect for my needs; easy access to everywhere in Northeast Portland. It also close to downtown and basically everywhere else I wanted to be. The guesthouse was very tidy and well-kept, and my room was spotless. The kitchen is useful and for both keeping and preparing food. My stay was two weeks long, so I really appreciated the cubby space in the bathrooms (also very clean!), and the warmth of the rooms during Portand's cold snap. There are stores, bars, and restaurants in easy walking distance, too. It really felt like home during my stay and I would have happily stayed another couple of weeks. I would absolutely recommend the Walking Liberty Guesthouse to anyone needing a place to stay in Portland. Great place.
