Colle dell’ara Positano is a great place to go through out of the norm. A walk along an ancient path, (lit during night), takes you in 5/6 minutes, on top of the hill, through a beautiful scenario in the heady scents of nature, where it seems to be suspended between blue of sky and blue of sea.
Located in the upper part of the city, in one of the most beautiful corner on Positano, Colle dell’ara is an exclusive place, a place where nature strongly expresses his unbridled beauty.

What an amazing place! Colle dell'ara B&B was the last stop in our two-week honeymoon in Southern Italy and it was the perfect place to end our stay. Every member of Giacomo's family was incredibly hospitable. His brother Pasquale and his father made us feel like members of the family and even hosted a special home-cooked dinner at the B&B one night during our stay. Positano and the Amalfi Coast can get quite touristy so having such a genuine and pleasant experience made all the difference. Highly recommend to anyone going to the Amalfi Coast!
Colle Dell'ara is a magical place run by the nicest family in Italy. The view, the food, the warmth, and the hospitality all combined to make it a truly memorable experience. I will be back!!!
We loved Colle dell'ara. What a beautiful place. It was nice to stay above the town of Positano in a very lovely, untouristy setting. Our hosts, Pasquale and Marco, were great. They were wry available and offered very pertinent information and were so interesting. The dinner they prepared one night of our 4 night stay was superb. They raise vegetables and on their estate and prepare the meal with their products. It was a delightful meal with delicious regional food of many courses. The large outside terrace is a wonderful place to hang out for breakfast and other times during your stay. We can't rave enough about the views...the whole experience. We rate it very highly. As mentioned in the description, there is a walk up to their B and B, with steps and walkways.
Staying at Colle dell'ara was a wonderful experience. Pasquale and Marco were friendly, helpful, approachable, and kind. The facility is great and the view cannot be beat! A real highlight was the dinner the family prepared on our first night. We felt immersed in Italy when we ate that meal, perhaps more than any other on our trip. The B&B is uphill from Positano, but we felt like the village of Montepartusso had much more charm than Positano itself and we enjoyed the (strenuous!) hike up and down from the property. The shuttle is available all day and evening for those who don't wish to walk or hike. The brothers give fantastic restaurant recommendations and will reserve the table for you. This place is great. If you want the pristine and, in my opinon, forgettable hotel experience Colle dell'ara may not be for you. But if you want to truly experience the Amalfi Coast this is a winner on every level. We will be back if we can help it!
I don't know where to begin with this place. We had such an amazing time here and everything was wonderful! We didn't get to meet Giacomo, but Marco and Pasquale were so helpful, funny, and incredibly nice.
We stayed for 3 nights and the view is incredible! The bus ride up was really fun (and frightening at times!) and we were welcomed in with open arms. The breakfasts and cappuccinos were amazing but our highlight was staying over on a Monday night when it's family dinner time. The family-made food was incredible and most of it was fresh from the gardens right there, and the wine kept coming. There are also some amazing restaurants nearby and they will take care of the reservations for you. We went home with homemade lemoncello and homemade honey - all made right there!
Our room was lovely and clean, as was our bathroom. The other guests were great as well and it's really a home atmosphere.
The location is amazing - the view is one of the best things about Positano. We walked down into town and did the walk back up. Tiring but definitely fun. The bus ride is also easy and takes you right there.
Definitely stay here. The family touches really put it over the top.
Love this place! Marco and Pasquale were wonderful and helpful hosts. We arrived later in the day than planned and they were very accommodating (and even made us linner [lunch+diner]).
The stairs/trail to the stairs are no joke and although it seems pretty clear that EVERYONE should already know about them, some folks still show up surprised (and you don't have to worry about taking your bags up/down b/c they have a totally cool MacGyver sky lift for them).
You may also be thinking, "Well, this will be nothing after my 4 floor walkup in Rome that I have been staying in for a week." Just know that it did not prepare you for the Amalfi Coast Stairmaster that you will be experiencing.
Enough with that already!
Colle dell'are BnB is great and beyond worth it. The rooms are fantastic and the views are something you will remember for the rest of your life.
Do yourself a favor and stay here at least once in your life!
tl:dr Stay at this place, it's awesome.
Colle dell'ara was a highlight experience. We walked into the lounge on a stormy afternoon and immediately met all the guests who were sheltering "at home". It was like a house party, coffee and the most delicious ever sandwiches made by Pasquale and Marco's dad.
the view was breathtaking, the walking superb, the dinner we all joined up the tables for..amazing, with the guitar and drums coming out after dessert. It was a 'pinch me, is this real?' experience from start to finish. We all agreed we would have stayed longer and used this charming mountain eerie as a base to explore the whole area if we'd known what a treat we were in for. Value for money second to none.
Beautiful villa, stunning views. Would come back in a heart beat! Very accomodationg hosts, attentive, kind. Wonderful experience!
This place is a gem!
The family is unbelievably charming and welcoming. Pascuale greeted us upon our arrival and we had the chance to meet Marco and Giacomo during our stay, too. One thing we especially loved was when Pascuale showed us black and white photos of his family over generations, all peppered around the house and told us how proud he is of what his parents built over their lifetime. It exuded pride in their "product" and a family bond that was very inviting to visitors.
We happened to be there for Ferragosto, a holiday unique to Positano, and the family was so welcoming to everyone to partake in the festivities at the house--bc of the holiday restaurant reservations were impossible, but we all had the treat of dinner at the house for 30 euro per person, with many courses to the meal and plenty of wine for whoever wanted it. Then we watched the fireworks on the top balcony of the home, all with the family. So much fun!
Just one other comment: My boyfriend and I stayed here for three days in mid August, the hottest time possible from what I understand, and I definitely would warn people about the trek up--we are relatively sporty people and had left our suitcases in Rome so were traveling only with backpacks, but it is a serious trek up to Montepertuso from Positano, and we found the one bus trip we took a little jarring so I wouldn't recommend it, and be prepared for the many steps up (as advertised). That said, we still had the energy for a 20km hike our second day there, and this shouldn't deter anyone, but I just would warn folks that the walk up is no joke--bring sneakers!
Thanks to Pascuale and the whole gang for a fabulous vacation experience!
