We're back! Had to take our listing down because our wonderful son returned home from school, but he is traveling for a couple of weeks, so we hope to host some great people in our cute garden studio while he is gone. Send us a message!

Interaction with Guests
We'll give you your independence and privacy, but we're friendly if you want to talk!
Quiet, suburban, tree-lined street in the Old Mountain View neighborhood. Neighbors are diverse--young working professionals, families with all ages of children and a few retirees.
No smoking anywhere on the property. If you need to smoke, you can take a walk in the neighborhood. Absolutely no pets of any size or species. We don't have TV so you can enjoy the sound of birds singing! We live in the front house and can help with questions about the area or recommendations for restaurants downtown. We live a pretty quiet life and expect guests to be fairly low key, but if you need to practice your tuba, the studio suite has decent soundproofing. This would not be a good place for you to host a gathering of any kind. No problem if a local friend or colleague plans to visit--just let us know so we understand why there is a stranger in our back yard! And please, no candles. Lights are dim-able for all the romance you need :)
I think it is best to be concise. I had a wonderful stay at Amy and Kern's house. It was a comfortable place to come to after a long day full of meetings and work. It was a quiet and private cottage close to all the amenities in Mountain View. And I availed myself to the delicious grapes in the yard. I had a tough week at work, but their home made it easier to take. Thanks for hosting me and I wish I had spent more time learning about you.
This was my first AirBnb experience, and it was wonderful! I stayed here for five days while between apartments. It's a great location just 10-15 minutes from Castro Street and the Caltrain station, and in a nice residential neighborhood where I felt safe walking back by myself after it got dark.
I contacted Amy and Kern beforehand to let them know my arrival time, and although they were out at the time, they left a welcome binder with info on their residence and nearby restaurant suggestions (as well as some chocolates!). The room was very clean with a beautiful view of their garden, high ceiling, and windows letting in a lot of natural light.
I didn't have the chance to meet Amy and Kern in person even though I would have loved to meet them, since I was out the first day and they were out of town for a few days. However, they left me a nice note letting me know they'd be away, and their son was friendly and very quick to help resolve a wifi connectivity problem I had.
Overall, I had a terrific stay and would definitely stay here again and recommend it!
My experience was fantastic here! From day 1, when I followed the instructions to enter the place, I immediately had a great feeling – a feeling that persisted throughout my ~10 day stay in May. The garden is soothing and relaxing, with the occasional sound of birds in the air (a great place to calmly recollect, reflect). Amy and Kern are fantastic people who were very welcoming and respectful of privacy. I had some great conversations with them. The room is clean and well-organized. Occasionally some insects could fly in if you left the windows open, but no big deal - it's a nature-y kind of place.
They kindly lent me a bike to use during the duration of my stay, and it was very helpful in getting around and exploring. The shops on Castro street / in that area are nearby and have plenty of what you may need: groceries, restaurants to eat at, a CVS, and more. There's even acupuncture places (didn't do but saw a lot of) and a music shop (where I spontaneously bought a little guitar!).
The neighborhood felt safe, and the people I met all very friendly.
On my last day, I was fortunate enough to meet others in the family, and had a fantastic time talking / eating with them :).
This place is simply a great place to stay, and I highly recommend it.
I stayed at Amy and Kerns Garden studio suite for two nights in May 2014. The room was very clean, cosy, quite big and has an en-suite bathroom. Everything is situated in the back of their garden with its own entrance and will give you all the privacy you'll need. I really enjoyed the little patio where you can relax in the sun with a book or your laptop (they have WiFi for their guests!). Amy and Kern are such nice people and they make sure that you'll have everything you need. You can use the fridge and the microwave in the garage, next to the garden studio if you want. I will definitely recommend this airbnb to my friends as a perfect starting point to explore Silicon Valley.
We loved our stay in Mountain View at Amy and Kern's place. The room and bathroom are separate from the main house so the privacy is great. The bedroom is comfortable and beautifully decorated. The vaulted ceiling adds to the appeal. Just outside the door is a lovely garden and cobblestone walkway. It's all very charming and just a short distance from downtown. Amy and Kern are helpful and friendly. Overall a very pleasant experience.
My husband and I stayed for the weekend in Amy and Kern's wonderful garden suite, and we have zero complaints. The suite is a great size for two people, has good temperature control plus cozy, soft furniture. It was also very clean. Thanks for a great stay! We would definitely return when we come back to the area.
This was an excellent stay. Amy and Kern have a very clean, private studio and I would definitely stay again. The space was large and comfortable, and had a private entrance behind the main house. They even provided a "welcome binder" that had all of the instructions for the unit, restaurant recommendations, and even hiking trail maps. The house is close to downtown Mountain View and well within walking distance of all the restaurants.
We've lived in Mountain View for 19 years and love its friendly and relaxed vibe. Amy is a high school English and journalism teacher and Kern works with a non profit that helps college students become social entrepreneurs. We love to travel, read, garden and cook. Our house was a little small for us when our two sons were growing up so we built a studio in our yard to accommodate them in their teen years. Now one has his own place and the other is in college, so we have the space to host visitors. We know you'll enjoy the serenity of our place and we will be happy to provide recommendations for restaurants and activities in the area.
