  • This was an excellent stay. Amy and Kern have a very clean, private studio and I would definitely stay again. The space was large and comfortable, and had a private entrance behind the main house. They even provided a "welcome binder" that had all of the instructions for the unit, restaurant recommendations, and even hiking trail maps. The house is close to downtown Mountain View and well within walking distance of all the restaurants.

  • Great location, nice room, pleasant hosts. The separate entry made it easy to come and go without disturbing the hosts.

  • Loved this place! Plenty of privacy in the guesthouse and a fantastic garden to have a cup of tea in the morning. Found a copy of Obama's Blackberry on the bookshelf and couldn't stop laughing as I read it. The location is super convenient to Castro Street restaurants. I'd you arrive past midnight like I did you won't find any eateries open nearby.. Other than In and Burger!

Look forward to staying here again!

  • Loved this place! The best part was the privacy and proximity to the downtown area. Stayed 2 nights, very clean. Loved being able to use the laundry! I had a couple speciual requests and Amy and Kern were quick to take care of them. I'll stay again.

  • Absolutely wonderful place to stay! Super quiet, gorgeous garden, comfy bed, and great shower pressure. Amy and Kern were so thoughtful to stock the mini-fridge with milk for morning coffee, a couple of beers, and fresh fruit and chocolate in the room. They also accommodated an early check-in and late check-out, which was super critical for my schedule-of-crazy. The room isn't far from downtown Mountain View, which has an amazing coffee shop (Red Rock) and several wonderful bookstores (East West and Book Buyers). You're also within easy walking distance of CalTrain, VTA light rail, and numerous local buses, so renting a car isn't necessary. Definitely stay here--it's a bargain!

  • My inlaws stayed here when they were visiting us. Location was convenient; they had a great time and a comfortable stay. Thanks!

  • My stay was great, the room was clean and cute, private because it was separate from the main house with a separate entrance. The garden between was lovely too. It was perfect for my needs which was a comfortable safe place to stay while on business in the Palo Alto area. Amy was very responsive and flexible and though I didn't have the opportunity to meet her in person, seemed like a great person. They obviously thought about the guest beyond just a clean place to stay - there was a heater in the bathroom, very thorough guest manual with suggestions on places to eat & shop nearby, toiletries and a little welcome snack of oranges and mints. Thanks for the great experience!

  • Amy's and Kern's garden studio is beautiful and so lovely. I was such a pleasure staying with them. Both are wonderful people, they were incredible helpful and welcoming. The studio is located in a pretty garden, it smelled amazing since everything started to blossom when we arrived. The little house was perfect for us being in walking distance to our friends, to the center of Mountainview and the station, and we didn't need a car to get around in town. We enjoyed it so much, and even our friend, who is almost a neighbour to Amy and Kern considered the place for a weekend gettaway :) The place was very clean, good shower and we could use the washing machine, which was very convenient. It was very private but in case we had questions, Amy and Kern were there to help. When visiting our friends next time we will def come back and stay here again. It truly felt like vacation and relaxing here. Thank you!

About
We've lived in Mountain View for 19 years and love its friendly and relaxed vibe. Amy is a high school English and journalism teacher and Kern works with a non profit that helps college students become social entrepreneurs. We love to travel, read, garden and cook. Our house was a little small for us when our two sons were growing up so we built a studio in our yard to accommodate them in their teen years. Now one has his own place and the other is in college, so we have the space to host visitors. We know you'll enjoy the serenity of our place and we will be happy to provide recommendations for restaurants and activities in the area.
