  • My experience was fantastic here! From day 1, when I followed the instructions to enter the place, I immediately had a great feeling – a feeling that persisted throughout my ~10 day stay in May. The garden is soothing and relaxing, with the occasional sound of birds in the air (a great place to calmly recollect, reflect). Amy and Kern are fantastic people who were very welcoming and respectful of privacy. I had some great conversations with them. The room is clean and well-organized. Occasionally some insects could fly in if you left the windows open, but no big deal - it's a nature-y kind of place.

They kindly lent me a bike to use during the duration of my stay, and it was very helpful in getting around and exploring. The shops on Castro street / in that area are nearby and have plenty of what you may need: groceries, restaurants to eat at, a CVS, and more. There's even acupuncture places (didn't do but saw a lot of) and a music shop (where I spontaneously bought a little guitar!).

The neighborhood felt safe, and the people I met all very friendly.

On my last day, I was fortunate enough to meet others in the family, and had a fantastic time talking / eating with them :).

This place is simply a great place to stay, and I highly recommend it.

  • I stayed at Amy and Kerns Garden studio suite for two nights in May 2014. The room was very clean, cosy, quite big and has an en-suite bathroom. Everything is situated in the back of their garden with its own entrance and will give you all the privacy you'll need. I really enjoyed the little patio where you can relax in the sun with a book or your laptop (they have WiFi for their guests!). Amy and Kern are such nice people and they make sure that you'll have everything you need. You can use the fridge and the microwave in the garage, next to the garden studio if you want. I will definitely recommend this airbnb to my friends as a perfect starting point to explore Silicon Valley.

  • We loved our stay in Mountain View at Amy and Kern's place. The room and bathroom are separate from the main house so the privacy is great. The bedroom is comfortable and beautifully decorated. The vaulted ceiling adds to the appeal. Just outside the door is a lovely garden and cobblestone walkway. It's all very charming and just a short distance from downtown. Amy and Kern are helpful and friendly. Overall a very pleasant experience.

  • My husband and I stayed for the weekend in Amy and Kern's wonderful garden suite, and we have zero complaints. The suite is a great size for two people, has good temperature control plus cozy, soft furniture. It was also very clean. Thanks for a great stay! We would definitely return when we come back to the area.

  • This was an excellent stay. Amy and Kern have a very clean, private studio and I would definitely stay again. The space was large and comfortable, and had a private entrance behind the main house. They even provided a "welcome binder" that had all of the instructions for the unit, restaurant recommendations, and even hiking trail maps. The house is close to downtown Mountain View and well within walking distance of all the restaurants.

  • Great location, nice room, pleasant hosts. The separate entry made it easy to come and go without disturbing the hosts.

  • Loved this place! Plenty of privacy in the guesthouse and a fantastic garden to have a cup of tea in the morning. Found a copy of Obama's Blackberry on the bookshelf and couldn't stop laughing as I read it. The location is super convenient to Castro Street restaurants. I'd you arrive past midnight like I did you won't find any eateries open nearby.. Other than In and Burger!

Look forward to staying here again!

  • Loved this place! The best part was the privacy and proximity to the downtown area. Stayed 2 nights, very clean. Loved being able to use the laundry! I had a couple speciual requests and Amy and Kern were quick to take care of them. I'll stay again.

  • Absolutely wonderful place to stay! Super quiet, gorgeous garden, comfy bed, and great shower pressure. Amy and Kern were so thoughtful to stock the mini-fridge with milk for morning coffee, a couple of beers, and fresh fruit and chocolate in the room. They also accommodated an early check-in and late check-out, which was super critical for my schedule-of-crazy. The room isn't far from downtown Mountain View, which has an amazing coffee shop (Red Rock) and several wonderful bookstores (East West and Book Buyers). You're also within easy walking distance of CalTrain, VTA light rail, and numerous local buses, so renting a car isn't necessary. Definitely stay here--it's a bargain!

We've lived in Mountain View for 19 years and love its friendly and relaxed vibe. Amy is a high school English and journalism teacher and Kern works with a non profit that helps college students become social entrepreneurs. We love to travel, read, garden and cook. Our house was a little small for us when our two sons were growing up so we built a studio in our yard to accommodate them in their teen years. Now one has his own place and the other is in college, so we have the space to host visitors. We know you'll enjoy the serenity of our place and we will be happy to provide recommendations for restaurants and activities in the area.
