Buses available on the corner, taxis pass at all hours and is within 5 minutes walking distance to the ADO terminal for national transportation. In the same block there are two small stores, a taco shop and a classic cantina that turns into a salsa club on the wekkends. Within five minutes walking distance to the Plaza Santo Domingo and the Zocalo.
Excellent experience with Victor and his family! We loved the setup, so much so that we came back to stay with him after our visit to the coast. The apartment itself is very nice, clean with a good aesthetic. It was very spacious as well with a nice little kitchenette and living room set up, definitely a place we could live in longer term if we had had the time to stay in Oaxaca. We loved that Victor has a restaurant in the front; we had coffee, mezcal and beers there several times and it was really fun getting to know a few locals. Plus, Victor makes the BEST sal de gusano! You walk through a pretty little garden with a great outdoor area to get to the apartment, so it's very quiet since it's off the street. And it's only a few minutes walk from the main square. We highly recommend staying with Victor if you go to Oaxaca!
Nuestra estancia fue muy placentera, Víctor nos dejó entrar a la habitación antes de la hora prevista. El único problema fue que las fotos que vimos de la casa no se ajustaban a la habitación. Aunque la habitación era muy amplia y tenia lo necesario.
The location is excellent. The typical courtyard Oaxacan home is very picturesque and cozy. The apartment itself is fully equipped with a kitchen. I was unlucky to not have any gas available for the night I spent. Victor was very attentive when I asked to spend only one night instead of the obligatory two and was willing to answer as many questions as I had. The apt is a bit rustic, but for the price in that area its fine. The dogs are a bit intimidating and you can feel the courtyard is theirs.
We had our own little back house in a courtyard garden area. Victor, the owners son, gave us the keys upon arrival as well as some good recommendations for art events in Oaxaca. When we arrived, we ate some delicious food and cold beer in the bar that they own in the front of the house.
The neighborhood is in a great location slightly off the the main bustling historic center, only 10 minutes walking from the Zócalo, markets, beautiful churches, plazas, and many parks. Close to many restaurants, cafes and bars too. We walked everywhere in Oaxaca.
The room was very comfortable, breezy, and cool. It has a spacious but simples bedroom, a kitchen with fridge, sink, and silverware, a nice bathroom, and a living/dining room area. Right outside is the garden with pomegranate trees, palms, cacti, and Victor's friendly dogs. Beautiful place to relax before walking around the city.
Victor (both father and son) was great! We really only met Victor Jr. but he was very helpful with directions and we had no problem getting there. The place was also very nice. A great location just a few blocks from the historic Centro. The apartment was all that we needed but certainly more in line with the backpacking lifestyle. There were a few insects here and there but it certainly wasn't a problem. There's a small kitchen with a refrigerator that we used to keep some fruit and veggies in.
Overall, a nice place in a beautiful city and we would come back and stay here in a heartbeat.
