Amazing, huge space! This place was awesome and Ubud is just beautiful. There are more bugs at this location probably because of its location next to rice fields, but the staff is very conscious of that and does everything to minimize this so it wasn't an issue at all. Speaking of, it was definitely a once in a lifetime experience of waking up to the faint noise of rice workers in the field. Suma and Rita were great, and just the sweetest staff ever.
We asked for breakfast one morning and Suma and Rita were so great in accommodating us on short notice. I had left my clothes a mess in the hamper and didn't think anything of it, only to return later that day to see that Suma had washed (with a special detergent for me) dried and IRONED all of my clothes.
Marian was also really easy and quick to communicate with, she arranged for a driver to pick us up from Seminyak and even suggested a couple locations to stop at on the way over. We took her recommendation and had an AMAZING lunch at 5 Elements, which overlooks the river and is just breathtaking. Not to mention the amazing service and absolutely delicious food.
Could not have had a better experience with Marian, the staff and this beautiful compound. Special thank you to Suma and Rita! You're crazy if you don't stay here.
Marian's home is in a good locality with several nice addresses - restaurants like Uma Cucina, Indus Cafe, The Elephant and spas like Bali Botanica and Putri Spa are within easy reach. The house staff is very polite and quite helpful - Rathi made nice breakfasts and Suma made a wonderful dinner once.
Marian was quite helpful with our travelling queries - our parents were vegetarians and we had 2 small children. She recommended several address, one of which was outstanding - The Elephant.
Probably some more efforts (beyond coils) need to be done for reining the mosquitoes; our 8 month old baby had a few stings on the 1st day.
Overall we had a nice stay and would like to come back to this relaxing house
Marian was a wonderful host! Offering assistance with arranging transport and answering local enquiries. The tranquil compound was Devine and staff were lovely. We would recommend Sumara House in a heartbeat!

This place has all the benefits of feeling like you are in the middle of the country - while being close to the centre of Ubud. We love the feel/ambiance of this house - you are unmistakeably in Bali. The place feels very secluded and overlooks the fields/mountains. Although it also has a modern feel with lovely pool and plenty of spaces to relax. The place feels like it should be in the middle of the country - but it is actually just about 100m off one of the main roads in a quieter area of Ubud.
I would highly recommend the Indus restaurant (about 10 minute walk from house) - we found this place and think the food and views are outstanding - we felt guitly eating there too much. But having now eaten in a lot of places in Bali - this is a standout.
The place is managed by the local staff and we didn't actually meet the owner. The staff are very friendly although their English is limited.
We loved our time at Mariana Villa - the Villa was lovely presented, clean and relaxing. While we did have trouble with hot water in each of the bathrooms, and it's location was a little difficult to initially locate as the villa is without a name of sorts, this was easily overlooked by the lovely staff and complete relaxation the villa offers.
Marian was very helpful in the run up to the stay and also organised transportation.
The house was lovely and as it is described. The location is great if you are looking for the best restaurants in Ubud as they are close by.
Suma who was there in the afternoons was delightful and babysat for our children twice and made us feel at ease with leaving them.
The house is very large and spread out. There is a very windy staircase which would be tricky and not advisable for very small children and if you need to be very close to your children in terms of bedrooms this might not be for you. A group of adults it would be ideal.
About the Host, Marian
I am a mother of two and a creative director in media. I love to create beautiful spaces, eat good food and be immersed in rich culture. I treasure things made by hand and crafted beautifully. I love to do yoga and eat vegitarian food. Ubud is a haven for this, this is why we have a home here.
