Drift San Jose is located in the heart of San Jose del Cabo's Art District, only one block from the cathedral and main plaza. San Jose is a traditional Mexican colonial town - with a contemporary gallery, live music and food scene. Famous for the Thursday night Art Walk and Saturday morning Organic Farmers Market. We are central to the best restaurants, bars, shops, galleries and cafes. A nearby trail follows the estuary and bird sanctuary, ending at the beach approx 20 minutes away.
We are perfectly situated for real Baja adventure. Explore the desert, mountains, ranches and miles of beautiful empty beaches. Popular day trips include the East Cape for surfing (30 min), Santiago for hiking, hot springs and waterfall (45 min) Todos Santos for surfing and great organic food scene (60 min), Cabo Pulmo for world class diving (90 min), Las Ventanas for kite surfing (2 hours) or La Paz to visit the spectacular Balandra Bay or Isla Espiritu Santo for kayaking or swimming with whale sharks (2 hours).
Popular nearby beaches accessible by taxi, car or bus are the beach at Ganzo Beach Club (5 min), La Playita (10 min), Costa Azul for surfing (15 min), Palmilla for swimming or SUP (15 min), Chileno for swimming or snorkeling (20 min), Medano Beach in Cabo San Lucas (30 min).
San Jose del Cabo is in the municipality of Los Cabos, 20 minutes south of Los Cabos International Airport (SJD) and 30 minutes East of the city of Cabo San Lucas.
-TAXIS can always be found downtown, usually in the main plaza, in front of the Cathedral, 1.5 block from Drift. From the airport there are both Taxis (approx $65) and shuttles (approx $15 per person) available to bring you downtown San Jose. Return fare back to the airport by taxi is approximately $20.
-RENTAL CARS can be found at the airport or or various rental agencies in San Jose. We recommend our guests rent a car or 4x4 if they want to explore the many beaches and sites outside of downtown San Jose. We like National Rental Car (office located two blocks from Drift) and have asked them to offer our guests a special all-in package rate including taxes and insurance if they mention they are staying at Drift. This rate depends on type of car and time of year and we cannot guarantee this rate or recommend or offer any other information in regards to renting a car.
-BUSES many of our guests have great luck getting around by the many different buses in and around San Jose. We do not have specific or detailed information, schedules or routes for the buses.

Staying at drift has been the perfect experience. As a person who doesn't like to be around the tourist masses when traveling, drift offered a good balance between the comforts of a resort hotel and the adventure of venturing out and experiencing the lands.
The staff were exceptionally friendly and made sure we were taken care of throughout our entire stay. The people we encountered were also friendly and conversation was always interesting. The tequila tasting and food truck that came was also a big plus and a lot of fun.
Overall, I highly recommend staying at drift for anyone who is interested in coming to cabo and wants to experience it in a way different and other from everybody else.
One of the most beautiful places to stay in San Jose del Cabo. The staff was great and the place was amazing. It's great for travelers who want to immerse themselves in the local culture and away from the more tourist spots. However Cabo is only a short distance away. I loved the hotel dog Clara!!! Such a sweetie. I would definitely stay here again
Angel greeted us as soon as we arrived-he was helpful and knowledgable. He was always around to answer any questions that we had. The owner is also around to answer questions and check if you need anything. Drift is exactly how it appears in pictures-a perfect place to hang out after a day of exploring the town. The rooms are big and comfortable, and the wifi is fast. There were always fresh oranges and coffee in the morning. You have your own baskets in the kitchen/refrigerator to store food. It is in a central location-with restaurants and stores just steps away. We will definitely stay here again!
Fantastic!! We had a wonderful experience.. much more than expected! We had a warming welcoming fro Stu and the Staff; They make you really feel at home and always attentive to your needs. The service was indeed highly exceptional. The field was chilled smooth and relaxing! Every item and design is in Perfect Harmony with everything in its environment! The location is wonderful; walking distance from central plaza, exquisite galleries, restaurants and pubs. every sixteen minutes there is a collective bus that passes by one block away to take you to the beach ¨la playita¨ that is about 10 minutes away. Locals are very friendly and kind. During our stay, we visited other hotels and rooms for rent just to check out their facilities and without the slightest doubt, we choose DRIFT SAN JOSE!
Staying at Drift was the highlight of our time San Jose! We couldn't have found a space any more perfect than this one. Esthetically speaking, it was made for us. We were so inspired by this little concrete gem tucked away in a bustling corridor... Privacy + coffee + fantastic staff = happiness!
Our experience was exceptional. The space invited you to relax and encouraged you to step out, meet your fellow travelers and exchange stories, backgrounds, experiences. The lodging was great, the staff were welcoming and kind, especially Angel. I fell in love with Clara. Even when we were with out water our hosts were super attentive and kept us up to date with progress. We were so happy with our stay. Thank you for creating such an innovative alternative to traditional lodging. GRACIAS!
After several days in a cabaña near Cerritos, we chose to spend our last two nights in Mexico at Drift transitioning back into reality. I felt like we were welcomed into a calm oasis in the center of town—the beautiful combination of colors and minimal design creating a serene refuge. I felt inspired and relaxed simultaneously.
Drift gave wonderful recommendations and the giant chalk map in the kitchen space was a great way to showcase the town and good things beyond. We absolutely loved our breakfast at nearby Lolita!
Angel helped us get settled in our first day and continued to make our stay special by practically mind-reading our needs. Plus, he's the churro concierge! He's so genuine and kind, and I'm so glad he is part of the Drift team.
A note about dogs: We had a little trouble sleeping our first night because of a next door neighbor's dog; but really, there's not much to do about that. The owner's dog Clara softened the experience as she strolled the grounds and provided great companionship. Such a cuddler.
When we weren't exploring, we both spent copious time reading near the fire pit and sitting in the doorframe listening to palm fronds rustling in the breeze. With the large glass sliding door, it's easy for the space to feel open and communal, and yet you're still be able to tuck away into privacy. I loved waking up to make coffee and visit with other guests. On our last (chilly) morning, there was homemade hot cocoa waiting for everyone—one of several small thoughtful touches that were lovely to encounter.
Thank you for a lovely stay! We hope to come back again.

DRIFT is inspired by the idea of independent travel - an alternative to package tourism and all-inclusive resorts. It is for real travelers - our guests prefer a basic do-it-yourself and social atmosphere over expensive luxury amenities and services. Money saved on accommodation can instead be spent on real adventure! We like using Airbnb as our booking engine because it attracts guests who are open to new concepts and experiences in hospitality.
Our staff includes our check-host Angel, manager Mauricio, Benito our gardener and Leo the cleaning lady.
