Description

The space

Newly renovated, quaint bedroom nestled against peaceful, wooded backyard. Enjoy a bright, clean bedroom with easy access to city living.

You'll forget you're in the city when you stay in this quiet, wooded nook. This newly renovated room offers the comforts of home with easy access to all the city has to offer.

The bedroom is situated in the lower level of our home with private access through the backyard.

The room was updated in July 2015, but it is not perfect. Some detail work is still needing to be finished (i.e. trim/molding) The windows are old and one has a crack and water damage so it is foggy.

The room has a comfortable queen size bed, a small table with two chairs, a large wardrobe, a storage unit stocked with some interesting books and games. You'll find a refrigerator/freezer, microwave, coffee maker, coffee/tea/sugar, mugs, glassware, flatware, plates, and bowls in the room as well.

The bathroom has a large shower and is stocked with fresh towels and washcloths.

There is a window AC unit/fan in the room. In the winter months we have radiant floor heat. The room tends to get very warm when the heat is on and there is no thermostat in the room. We suggest cracking a window or turning on fan if it is too warm.

The backyard offers a spacious brick patio with seating and a beautiful wooded backdrop. We also have three cats who are very friendly and three children who you may see playing around the yard.

We love our home and hope you love it too! We want your stay to be as relaxing and comfortable as possible, and we'll do our best to accommodate your needs.

We're around to interact as much or as little as you'd like. Our kids and the house keep us pretty occupied so we generally keep to ourselves.

The neighborhood of Highland Park is a quiet, safe, and beautiful neighborhood. The bus stop (71A) is a 10 minute walk and can take you to other directly to other interesting neighborhoods such as Shadyside, Oakland, and Downtown.

Take a 10-15 minute walk up to Bryant Street to visit various restaurants, shops, a bakery, and a wonderfully popular coffee shop. You can also catch the 500 bus route here.

The entrance to Highland Park is also a 10-15 minute walk where you will find a spectacular fountain, immaculate gardens, playgrounds, bike paths, hiking trails, and plenty of green space.

There are some wonderful spots for meals within walking distance of our home. Take a 10-15 min walk up Bryant Street and you will find:

Park Brugges (website hidden)

Smiling Banana Leaf (one of personal favorites for Thai!)
(website hidden)

E2 (great place for brunch)

A lovely place to stay in Pittsburgh. We enjoyed walking around the neighborhood. Street parking was easy. Megan was communicative and made our arrival easy

Unfortunately, cleanliness was our biggest let down. Upon entry, we were greeted with cobwebs on the chairs, a fridge that could use a good wipe down, shower with a left over dirty washcloth/pressure that was nearly a dribble, and windows that didn't shut properly. (however, in the listing they did mention the windows needed replacing. It was my fault for not inquiring further into what exactly that meant.) We did have a nice little kitchenette that provided clean dishes, paper towels, coffee, and tea so that was a major plus! Also, once the temps outside dropped we worried about the windows, our host promptly delivered extra blankets and a space heater to make up for it When choosing a listing, we leaned on this one because of the beautiful backyard/amenities described. We did have a private entry to our room which we really enjoyed but felt severely let down by the yard... the hot tub, fire pit, and hammock were all unusable. Lots of random things/trash lying around as well, the lookout from out back was great though! The neighborhood itself was beautiful, quiet, and in a safe location. About a 15 min drive into the city, it was nice to be away from the hustle and bustle. Overall, we had a fantastic time in Pittsburgh and had a safe place to sleep after wandering around all day. Our hosts were kind, quiet, and gave us our privacy so for that I thank you!! We would have loved to sit out back in the hot tub or around the fire pit, but maybe this is more of a seasonal amenity... if that is the case just be a little clearer on that for future guests!

Communication with Megan was great, and the room was exactly as expected. My daughter was thrilled with the Christmas tree and chocolates left for us! We arrived late at night, but the neighborhood felt very safe. It was extremely cold outside (10*) when we stayed, and we really appreciated the extra space heater that had been set up to make the room super cozy warm!
