Our home offers you a private room on our lower floor that is shut off from the rest of the house. The private entrance is situated in the backyard and overlooks the woods of Highland Park. The room has one comfortable queen size bed and a small sofa. The room has its own bathroom with a large shower and is stocked with towels and washcloths. The room is equipped with a full refrigerator/freezer, microwave, and coffee pot. We provide coffee, tea, and mugs. There is also a shelving unit in the room stocked with interesting books and board games and space to place your belongings.
Please note, the flooring in the room is older tile that shows some wear and tear. On the plus side, it's heated! You are welcome to open the windows as well- they are old and may require a little extra effort to open and shut.
You will have access to the backyard and there is also a gas grill that you are welcome to use on the deck.
The neighborhood of Highland Park is a quiet, safe, and beautiful neighborhood. The bus stop (71A) is a 10 minute walk and can take you to other directly to other interesting neighborhoods such as Shadyside, Oakland, and Downtown. Take a 10-15 minute walk up to Bryant Street to visit various restaurants, shops, a bakery, and a wonderfully popular coffee shop. You can also catch the 500 bus route here. The entrance to Highland Park is also a 10-15 minute walk where you will find a spectacular fountain, immaculate gardens, playgrounds, bike paths, hiking trails, and plenty of green space. We love our city and would be happy to offer you suggestions of things to do and see during your stay.
Your room is very private but we will be occupying the rest of the home during your visit. We have 2 young children that will be playing around but generally you can't hear much noise when you're in the room. The outdoor space is shared but we generally keep to ourselves. We have three cats that may wander around outside as well. We love our home and hope you love it too! We want your stay to be as relaxing and comfortable as possible, and we'll do our best to accommodate your needs.

Nice visit to this cozy home which is exactly as in the posted description. Easy parking (even in the snow) and a flat path to the door made access easy. Great for a single person who is out and about during the day. Room is a bit fatigued and will be great with a nice coat of paint and a little touch up.
Hosts were very responsive via email and on my arrival. Very friendly during the brief chats we had.
Neighborhood looked nice but the weather kept me inside or in the car so I didn't wander from main roads. Kids sledding the nearby park sure looked like fun.
We enjoyed our stay with Megan. Their home is located in close proximity to all of Pittsburgh which made it very convenient. What made Megan's home a great place to stay was the private entrance which allowed us to come and go at any time. Megan communicated immediately to all text messages.
Alex leaves a great review that I mostly agree with; here are my two cents.
The PROS: Megan was very responsive and easy to work with. This is a private room in their home with its own entrance; it felt like we had our own apartment to ourselves. It's so private in fact, that the only time I saw someone from the house was when I accidentally ran into her partner outside in front of the house when I was coming back at night. I also ran into one of their outdoor cats, and he was incredibly social and sweet. We heard their dryer running once, but rarely heard them or their children throughout the weekend stay. The bookshelf had some great reads for most tastes along with some games.
The neighborhood was nice and quiet with cool historic houses, and we had a good time going on walks throughout our stay. Bryant street has a few restaurants, but other than that, the neighborhood is primarily residential and probably best as a hub to get to the many other parts of the city.
The CONS: Overall, I found the pictures of this listing to be a brighter and cleaner version of the room. The room was neat, but not as clean as some of the other reviewers indicated. Mainly, the rugs looked like they may have needed vacuuming and there was a lot of dust and dirt under the bed. My eyes are terrible without glasses, but my partner says the shower also had pink mildew in the grout.
The room became rather hot from the floor heating. It's unfortunate there wasn't a way to adjust the heat, but Megan suggested opening a window and that seemed to be the trick to a comfortable temperature.
Two words to describe this stay - completely refreshing!
First, Megan and Josiah were more than welcoming, accommodating, communicative, and flexible! My girlfriend and I only had a couple of short instances talking face to face with them, but the email and text communication before and after our stay was excellent. They were flexible with our arrival and departure days (the Christmas and New Years), willing to do anything to keep us happy, and even left us some buckeyes, bottled water, and a lit Christmas Tree to make our stay a little bit more special!
Being that this is an in-law apartment type unit, it was very private and safe. The room was spacious, clean, well heated, and quiet for being a part of their house. It was nice to have a place in a great neighborhood that seemed just minutes away from everywhere, East Lib, Shadyside, Highland Park, with Oakland a little more of a stretch. Tucked in a remote pocket of the city, the view from the backyard was fantastic.
We were in and out quite a bit during our stay, but when we were able to hunker down for an evening, it was a nice place to sit back and relax. The amenities (coffee maker, full size fridge, microwave, a few dishes) were nice to have in the room. There was also an air conditioner installed for the warmer months, but the heat was crankin for our winter stay. Water was hot and plentiful, with good pressure, in a well lit bathroom and large walk in shower.
When going back to Pittsburgh when we have to stay someplace, this will be my first place to look for lodging. You cannot find better hosts, and you can't beat the room, especially at such a steal!
