Coburg (like any Inner Northern suburb in Melbourne) is a fantastic place to live and stay, and has really held onto a wonderful multi-cultural vibrancy - in our educated opinion, it's the side to be on!
You only need to read our reviews to see how much our guests love the neighbourhood and it's easy access to the city!
Coburg is home to the lightest, fluffiest falafel in all of Australia at one of the many reasonably priced Middle Eastern food shops.
The Post Office Dining Hall/Cafe and Hotel (see pics at end of listing) is stylish, beautiful and just around the corner (a great place to have dinner, listen to some fantastic live music or sit in the awesome leafy beer garden with a pint.
There is a lovely cafe just around the corner called 'True North' which we love and it's quintessentially 'Melbourne'.
The 'Eastern Block' and 'East Timor' are 2 other great cafes nearby. There are new cafes popping up everywhere at the moment! The quirky Woodlands Hotel is also nearby and well worth a visit.
And then, well Sydney Rd and Lygon street are fantastic and well worth a tram ride in when you're on your way to the city with lots of stop-off points! Be sure to visit Green – a cafe at the end of Sydney Rd in Brunswick for some amazing home-cooked goodness at cheap prices or Ray for breakfast.
Also nearby is CERES, an environmental park with a cafe, farmers markets/stalls, a fantastic nursery and community vegie patches/initiatives.
There is also a COBURG FARMERS MARKET. It's on every 2nd and 4th Sat of the month at Coburg North Primary School - lots of awesome produce there.
Our neighbour, Brunswick (we are nearly on the border) is full of trendy cafes, shops, pubs, bars, restaurants, parks etc
Our house has excellent fast access to transport of all kinds. Firstly, trams and trains are literally just around the corner, making it super easy to get into the city or other places along the way such as Brunswick (neighbour), Melbourne uni, the hospitals, Queen Vic markets for fresh food or the Royal Melbourne Zoo!
In addition, right behind our house is a bike track which goes into the city (with great stop-off points along the way like Lux Foundry.
The other option is to take a walk down Sydney Rd, along Merri Creek or around the beautiful Coburg Lake.
Whether you're into op-shopping, unique, independent fashion, boutique wine bars, great pubs/live music, restaurants, coffee, fabric, gardening, vintage, jewellery, bridal wear, Melbourne-made craft, the zoo, or record stores, there's something for everyone on this side, if not on Sydney Rd, Lygon, Nicholson or Brunswick Street, than tucked away in little lane ways and unexpected places that no travel book will know about.
Public transport is easily accessible from the house. The closest train station is Coburg, which is a 1-2 minute walk away near the shops. The closest tram stop is also a 1-2 minute walk away and located on the corner or Sydney Rd and Reynard (or Munro Street).

It was a lovely experience to be staying in Jayne's house for a 6 days vacation in Melbourne with my family. The house is decorated very tastefully with great plants, fresh flowers and great furniture. Having the garden in the morning for breakfast and star gazing at night was a absolute bliss. I'd recommend anybody to be staying and have a wonderful experience in Jayne's!
Our stay in Jayne's beautiful home was amazing. We truly enjoyed our time and it felt like such a luxury escape, we didn't want to leave.
Thank again for every Jayne, we appreciate all the effort you clearly go to to make sure your guests feel welcome and comfortable.
Jayne was fantastic! From the initial book to the check In day and just prior to arriving she checked if everything was all okay and any last minute questions. this house is simply beautiful! Thoughts down to the tinest one. Myself and my partners family absolutely loved our time in Melbourne at this easy living house.
Thank you once again Jayne!! I would definitely stay again ! :D
A lovely home for a large group excellent facilities and good transport links into Melbourne we have thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend staying here.
The reservation was canceled 197 days before arrival. This is an automated posting.
We had a wonderful 6 night stay in Jaynes beautiful home and would highly recommend it.
This was our first Airbnb experience and our first trip to Melbourne and we fell in love with the house and the city!
We are a family with 3 grown up kids so really appreciated the space. The bedrooms are all large and airy with high ceilings and 2 have ensuites (ours was the very special one with the egg shaped bath- gorgeous!). Bedding was bright and clean and towels all white and fluffy.
The living area of the house works really well for a family group with comfortable sofas and a large dining table and French windows onto a lovely outside seating area which also has a table and a fab bbq! We love to cook and this is a cooks kitchen - good local shops provide all you need and Jayne has a very well stocked pantry which she generously allows you to use. We had some great, relaxed times at the house as it's such a comfortable place to be, we didn't want to rush out early every morning and we used it more like a home for the short time we were there.
Jayne is a perfect host, she is very friendly and very efficient and full of tips on where to go and what to see in Melbourne. She even helped us find the perfect restaurant for New Years Eve!
We bought Myki cards and used the trains and trams into the centre which were great and you get to see more of the city that way.
Jayne's attention to detail has helped create a beautiful and stylish home, the fresh flowers and toiletries in the bathrooms are a really welcome touch - she is a thoughtful and caring host who takes great pride in her home and I would happily recommend The Yellow Door to all!
We could have asked for nothing more!! The house was a true home, perfectly set out for a stay by 4 generations of our family from Brisbane and New Zealand. Jayne was so friendly and went beyond the usual role of a host to make sure that we had everything that we needed and had settled in. We had contact details but did not need to contact her for anything. There were vases of fresh flowers placed around the house - a lovely touch!
Everything we needed and more was supplied. We were free to use the contents of the pantry and on looking in the freezer found a family-sized freshly baked apple pie! The kitchen was well set out, with an amazing fridge/freezer and large oven (although we didn't need to prepare many of our meals - the eateries close-by are well worth visiting) The living area was very comfortable with ample seating and received good light. It had doors opening onto an outside decked area, where there were tables and bench seats - perfect for outdoor eating and relaxing. Our granddaughter enjoyed watching and feeding the goldfish and seeing the bugs and bees fly down to get a drink.
The beds were super-comfortable with good quality linen, lovely soft towels were supplied. As we had a toddler with us, we appreciated the use of the cot and high chair. And there was an assortment of children's books in the cupboard, along with a large box of toys. All of this was no hassle for the owner to supply. It was a very child-friendly environment.
The rooms were all of a very generous size. We were able to give my elderly father his own room with adjoining ensuite. Another room even had an awesome bath. The two rooms without ensuites had the use of a more than ample separate bathroom, with shower and toilet.
The location was perfect. There was no issue in getting supplies as the supermarket was only a few minutes away. The local shops were great to look through, such variety. Although we had rental cars, we made use of both the train and tram to get into the city, getting our Myki cards from the chemist just around the corner in Sydney Road.
We were able to relax and really enjoy our stay in Melbourne.
The house was even better than what we had imagined. Everything in the photographs was accurate, the place was clean and just catered for our needs perfectly.
I would definitely recommend 46 Loch Street to anyone needing a comfortable place to stay, close to all amenities and very convenient to get transport into town.
I cannot commend Jayne enough for her warm welcome and hospitality. It meant that we will always have such special memories from both a wonderful Melbourne wedding and of our time seeing the city. To say Thankyou hardly seems enough - but "Thankyou" from all of us. Merry Christmas and we wish you a wonderful 2015.

My husband and I have traveled the world and experienced many different types of cultures and accommodation, from a scale of rough to amazing. We have spent the past 3.5 years renovating this home, and are incredibly proud to open it up as a guest house. We are very passionate about hosting and providing an excellent level of care and attention to detail in a house that we hope you will feel 'at home in' during your stay.
