Great place for social distance and emotional connection. Our outpost sits at the foot of Whitetop Mountain on the waters of Little Laurel, ten miles outside of Damascus, VA. You can hike directly from our place to these national jewels: The Appalachian Trail, Beartree National Recreation Area, or The Virginia Creeper Trail. Entry to Grayson Highlands State Park is an easy drive or a challenging hike. Our place offers the ideal place to recover your senses.

The space
Simple and open interior space with a large studio for work, exercise, and play. Come to our rustic outpost to focus your mind and body. There is no TV, no wifi, no phone service, and no cell service in our remote location.

Konnarock Outpost has four guest bedrooms. Little Laurel is a small cozy space with a double bed. It shares a bathroom with the Beech Grove room, which is a bit bigger with two twin beds. King of Iron Mountain is a suite with a king size bed, love seat, two chairs, deck, and a private bath. Feathercamp Branch has a full size bed and direct access to the carport.

Guest access
Guests have access to 4 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, the kitchen, dining room, and large studio (which currently has a ping-pong table set up, as well as 1 full- size folding mattress. )

Other things to note
There is a bicycle in the shed available for guest use.

Hikes:
Creek Junction, Virginia Creeper Trail - If you’re looking for an easy, level stroll on the Creeper Trail along a beautiful creek, the Creek Junction parking lot is 1 mile from our house. Go East on 58 (towards Konnarock) and just around the bend from our house, make a hard right turn down gravel road to Creek Junction parking lot.
Elk Garden to Buzzard Rock - This is a not-to-be-missed 7.2 mile round trip hike on the Appalachian Trail. Moderate difficulty. Beautiful hike through the woods and then out onto Whitetop Mt. with balds and 360 degree views. 15 minute drive from our house.
Appalachian Trail north to Whitetop - If you want a challenging hike, start at Creek Junction, head north on the Creeper Trail and just after the bridge, turn left onto the AT. It’s about 7.5 miles to Buzzard Rock at Whitetop or 15 miles round trip. Or just do an out and back on the AT, going however far you want.
Grayson Highlands State Park - We love the Massie Gap to Rhododendron Gap hike at Grayson Highlands or choose one of the many other trail offerings. Amazing vistas and wild ponies.

Damascus:
Drive 10 miles West on 58, along the winding scenic Whitetop Laurel Creek, to Damascus where you can stroll through town to check out these attractions:
Bike rental and shuttles
Area outfitters
Damascus Brewery, Th. and Fri, 6-9 pm, Sat. 6-10 pm
Mojo’s Trailside Cafe and Coffee House
Damascus Old Mill - sit out on the patio and enjoy dinner or a drink by the gristmall waterfall on Laurel Creek

In or near Abingdon:
Abingdon Vineyard and Winery - enjoy a tour, some wine samples, and bring a picnic lunch to eat by the creek or take a hike on the Creeper Trail at Alvarado Station
Bonefire Smokehouse - on Main St. in Abingdon. Southern fare. Local hangout.
128 Pecan - great, little restaurant
Bella’s Pizza - great pizza, local hangout
El Bigote’s Mexican Grill
White Birch Juice Company
