Well-stocked kitchen amenities
This unique and super clean condo is on the second (and upper) floor of a converted and modernized 1871 mansion.
Original hardwood floors and mouldings, tall 6 foot high windows, and a large eat-in kitchen with its own 6 foot window, makes this condo feel like a house.
Parking is optional. A parking spot is a 1/2 block away (30 second walk) and is $10 plus HST ($11.30) per night per vehicle with in/out privileges. No reservation required.
You will have the entire condo to yourself.
Interaction with Guests
This would be your own apartment and as such, you will be given your privacy. Most communication would be by text. In the unlikely event that there is a repair required, we react quickly and work around your schedule.
This is a diverse, and active neighbourhood. It is a comfortable walk to the Byward market, the Rideau Centre, Ottawa Conference Centre, Parliament Hill, U.S. embassy, Russian embassy, University of Ottawa, shops, 24-hour grocery stores, public transit, liquor and beer stores, movie theatre, live theatre, banks, restaurants, etc.
Public transit is steps from the front door and includes 4 major bus routes. Flagging a cab is convenient. Walking through the downtown is easy. A car is not required though optional long term parking available 1/2 block from the condo for $75 a month or $10 for 24 hours.
Other Things to Note
There is a park steps away, and a community centre with an indoor year-round pool 2 blocks away.
Check-out must be no later than 11 am.
We offer a clean, well-appointed condo that is perfect for people who want to be in the downtown core, the business district, or close to tourist attractions.
We ask that our guests be respectful of our home, the furnishings and supplies, and also respectful of our fellow condo owners. Excessive noise will not be tolerated. Smoking is limited to outside the building. Pets, though we love them, are not able to stay in our heritage building.
The Tenant(s) agree to be responsible for any and all damages howsoever caused, be same innocent, negligent or willful, and whether caused by the Tenant(s), any one of them or any person on the Rented Premises. The Tenant(s) further agrees to notify the Landlord immediately upon the Tenant(s) becoming aware of any damage.
The maximum number of tenants and guests is limited to four (4) persons day or night. No weddings, graduations, receptions, parties, or similar events allowed.
The Tenant(s) agrees to return the condo in the same condition it was found.
In the event that the tenants(s) and guest(s) do not execute the cancellation agreement, the tenant(s) agrees that the owner may charge the sum of $600 per night provided the tenants(s) and guest(s) do not check out on their pre-arranged check-out date by 11 am.
No Daily Housekeeping services
While linens and bath towels are included, daily maid service is not included in the rental rate, however, it is available at an additional rate.
We do not permit towels or linens to be taken from the condo.
Any reservation obtained under false pretense will be subject to forfeiture of advance payment, deposit and/or rental money, and the party will not be permitted to check in.
The Tenant(s) agrees that the Landlord shall not be liable for any loss, injury or damage to persons or property, loss of enjoyment, whether direct or consequential, resulting from such being on or about the Rented Premises whether caused by fire, smoke, theft, burglary, conditions due to the weather such as ice on the grounds, or for any cause whatsoever. The Tenant(s) further agrees that their use of the Rental Premises is at their sole risk.
We highly recommend all tenant(s) and guest(s) purchase travel, personal liability and property insurance.
The Tenant(s) for good and valid consideration, including the granting of possession of the Rental Premises pursuant to the terms of this Rental Agreement, hereby agree to indemnify the Landlord and save them harmless with respect to any claim, demand, cause of action or actions made by any person against the Landlord, their agents and servants for damage or injury arising during the period of the Rental Agreement on or about the Rental Premises.
Use of Grounds
The Tenant(s), his/her family and guest(s) shall use the common areas and walks within the area owned by the Landlord in a quiet and proper manner and with due regard to the comfort and convenience of other Tenants and neighbours, and shall desist from any course of conduct considered objectionable by any agent of the Landlord upon being requested to do so.

Any illegally parked cars are subject to towing; applicable fines/towing fees are the sole responsibility of the vehicle owner.
Pets are NOT allowed.
Smoking/Smoke Detectors/Fire Extinguisher
There is no smoking permitted in the condo/or throwing cigarette butts on the grounds, or in the surrounding walkways/parking lots. The Tenant(s), his/her family and guest(s) are permitted to smoke on the terrace, but must use a proper ashtray and dispose of the butts in such a manner as to ensure the butts are extinguished fully.
The Landlord shall ensure that there is a functional smoke detector and fire extinguisher installed in the Rented Premises at the time the Tenant(s) takes possession of the rented premises.
A Tenant(s), his/her family or guest(s) who disable(s) a smoke detector is subject to a fine under Ontario law.
Both the Landlord and the Tenant(s) hereto agree and understand that a fax transmission of this Rental Agreement shall be considered to be an original, and shall be legally binding upon all parties.

My friends and I stayed at this apartment while we attended a conference at the University of Ottawa. We loved how well laid-out and organized everything was as Catherine included a booklet with any information you could ever need for getting around the city, restaurant recommendations, tourist attractions, etc. We have a lovely experience staying here and would gladly stay here again if we ever came back to the city! Apartment has lots of character, and the location was fairly convenient to Byward Market and downtown (about 1.5 mile walk). The street noise inside the apartment was loud, so it was difficult to sleep. Bus stops right outside the apartment, which is convenient but also encourages congregating on the front steps and noise.
This was a rare exception that we had a heat wave for one night in May and in the past 10 years we have never had a need for air conditioning this early in the season. It was very hot during this one day but it cooled down at night. That is why this guest had her windows wide open. Usually, my guests do not complain about outside noise because the A/C is on and the windows are new and quite thick.
We felt very welcomed and accomodated by Catherine. The place was clean and easy to access. The apartment was well appointed and easy to use. The only issue was the heat was blasting and no way to turn it down.
I am so glad that Joy and her family enjoyed their stay so much. Joy also mentioned to me that it was a great walking location to the canal for skating and shopping. Regarding the heating, yes, you can turn it down! We have instructions in the manual as well as throughout the condo. It is usually simple, however, if any of our guests find it not to be, we are always a quick text, email or phone call away. It is rare that you cannot reach us immediately no matter what time of the day it is. We are willing to help with any issues our guests may encounter. We also offer arguably the best manual around! We clearly list every possible thing s guest would need to know (and always updating) in an easy-to-understand format. We know how difficult it can be to go somewhere on vacation and find you spend most of your time trying to figure things out than enjoying and relaxing. Hosts made us feel very welcome, were quite attentive to small details and were around to correct small problems.
Place is well-equipped and quite central; excellent access to buses; a short walk to U Ottawa.
One complaint is that the apartment is on a busy and fairly loud street. Closing windows reduces the noise, but this is not easy in warm weather.
I thank you, Larry, for your wonderful comments about our apartment, our willingness to assist our guests, and the convenient location. We have found, through hosting thousands of guests over the years, that what everyone puts at the top of their list is cleanliness, comfortableness, convenience to the sites, university, government offices o the business district and you have agreed that our apartment is strategically located. It sure helps that there are also 4 major bus routes a few steps from the front door.
With regards to noise, during the warm months we provide air conditioning so no need to open the windows and the same applies during the cooler or cold months when we heat the building to a comfortable level.
We want our guests to know that when they stay at our apartment they are enjoying the downtown experience..and that includes street noise (though our windows are triple-glazed so they block out the majority of noise and this has been confirmed by many of our previous guests). We are not in the suburbs. But, there are many benefits to being so close to everything...convenience of having shops and grocery stores within walking distance and open 24 hours, the closeness of buses and taxis, the vibrancy of being in an active area, and the having a true downtown experience.
The apartment is great: clean, comfy and is within walking distance of the city. We spent a really good time there. Denis was friendly and responsive.
We will definitly come back someday.

My wife works very hard decorating the apartment and is constantly replacing things as they get used a lot by our guests. Just recently she bought a huge amount of games because some of our old ones looked like pieces were missing.
I know you enjoyed spending time visiting the tourist sites and eating at the restaurants in the neighbourhood. Didn't I tell you that the restaurant one block away has the best hummus you will ever eat!
I am glad you found talking to me easy and I do stress to all our guests that we are available to help with anything day or night, seven days a week. When you are on vacation you do not want any problems, and we will do our best to make sure your stay is great.

The location is great - walking distance to the Parliament Hill, and a Loblaw is a few blocks away.
Yes, the overwhelming number of guests who have stayed in our apartment over the years have commented on how close it is to all the amenities as well as many major attractions such as the Byward market, Parliament Hill, the Rideau canal. It sure helps that there is a very large 24-hour grocery store a safe and convenient 3 blocks away. But, I should also mention that there is also a 24-hour convenience store in the same block as the apartment, in case you need bread, milk or bus tickets. BTW, there is a major bus stop steps from the front door ad all the buses take you in directly to many of the major tourist destinations or, for the business traveler, the business district.
I am glad to hear you want to come back with some friends who have not been to Ottawa before. Based on our conversation, I think they would enjoy coming during Winterlude. You and your friends would find lots to do and enjoy. We are close enough to everything that you can walk but, of course, having the bus stop steps away is a great convenience.

When I travel and stay in private homes I expect to have all the basics available (like spices, coffee, teas, sugar, bathroom tissue, laundry soap) as well as finding the kitchen to have an abundance of pots/pans, knives, serving bowls, baking sheets, casserole dishes, etc.
Since I have found this is not always the case, I understand how disappointing that can be, so I tend to go overboard and offer everything I can think of.
I am a retired interior designer and a Cordon Bleu grand diplome chef. I have taken my training and experience from these two fields and applied it to offering the best accommodations for my guests, including a well-stocked kitchen! :-))
