About this listing
Staying in our Colonial home in Historic Ponce puts you in the center of this beautiful city. We are two blocks form the main Plaza Las Delicias. Restaurants, Museums, shops and a small grocery store are all within an easy walk from the house.
119 Calle Reina is a large spacious colonial home located in the historic district of Ponce. It is two blocks from Plaza Las Delicias. The house has an art gallery type setting. Yoga is often practiced in the main living room. There is a lush outside courtyard for your relaxation. Shared meals are possible and the house comes with kitchen privileges. We prefer a vegetarian diet and non smoking. The house has two aavailable bedrooms and shared bath. Ponce is a walking town but a car is necessary to reach the easily accessible mountains and beaches . We have a 31 acre organic farm that is 15 minutes from town. It is available for your enjoyment too. We have a sweet non-barking dog that shares the home. We have learned from our guest that they wish they had stayed longer. Because we are a B&B home stay versus a hotel we have a two day minimum. If you prefer to stay only one night we do have an extra charge of $10 to renew the room. We look forward to hosting you.
Wifi is available
Interaction with Guests
We interact with guests as much as they would like to. Many times we just visit around the kitchen table or go on small excursions together. Sometimes guest want their private space and we are open to that as well.
The center of Ponce is known for its architecture and museums. Everything you might need is within walking distance.
There is a local bus service that is very new and it can take you to the surrounding neighborhoods and shopping malls.
Other Things to Note
Ponce is well situated on the South Coast of Puerto Rico. Day trips can be made to the hot springs in Coamo. The beautiful beaches of Guanica or the majestic mountains in the central cordillera including The National forest of Torro Negro.
Basically we are vegetarian but include fish and dairy. If you choose to have a meal consisting of meat it is okay. We are nonsmoking.
Amazing, the hospitality and people were phenomenal, quaint and curious , beautifully historically crafted house. Would highly recommend, did not get to meet Mark, but was in the good hands of Megan who showed us the local mustdo's. Conveniently located from city squares, shops and strip. Must do.
Unfortunately, Mark was not able to meet us personally because he was in the states, but he made arrangements for Sarah and Megan to meet us at midnight when we arrived. They were very accommodating, and helped us get settled in when we arrived. The area is great. You are right in the heart of Ponce. If you are a light sleeper you may have difficulty sleeping which is something to consider. The facilities were great with a full blown kitchen, bathroom, and living room. It was a private hostel if you will.
The gorgeous colonial home provided the ideal place to stay in historic Ponce. When you walk in the garden is glowing. They had an amazingly well-stocked kitchen, including mangos in the freezer to make into morning smoothies--YUMMY. Mark's beautiful art is everywhere, the furniture is gorgeous and reveals all of the host's travels in the Amazon, and elsewhere. Like all old houses it can be a bit dusty, so if you have allergies, this might be a reason not to stay here. Parking was easy. Street traffic was a bit loud in living room, but it does not affect the sleeping area. I had an amazing night's sleep. Megan and Sara were wonderful. They hooked us up with a neo jibaro who delivered fresh organic produce to us. Delicious. I will definitely stay here again if I come back to Ponce and I recommend it.
Thanks for staying with us. I am glad that you enjoyed your stay with us and Ponce. The dust situation may have been from the Sahara dust storms that are common during June. Of course not having glass on the windows does not help in keeping it out of the house.I I think there was a misunderstanding regarding food in the refrigerator and cupboards. The refrigerator was stocked with Megan and Sara's personal meals as they live part time in the house. As a rule we do not feed our guests full meals but we offer coffee and fruit. Perhaps in the future we can offer full meals for an additional fee but have not officially offered that at this time. We hope you visit with us again
We loved staying in this beautiful house. Our host was away when we visited, but he had two delightful friends acting as caretakers who did everything to welcome us. The house is full of art, both traditional and modern, created by the artist homeowner and all of it was lovely. The mango tree in the courtyard was spectacular and the location really convenient. This was a great find.
My partner knew of this home from his childhood. He grew up in Ponce and always wondered what the inside might look like. When we saw this listing, his eyes lit up and I knew we had to stay. Little did I know how magical it would truly be. Nestled just a few blocks from the city plaza, this grand house is the perfect location for getting a taste of the heart of Ponce. We were able to walk to amazing dining, night life, and landmarks, while still being far enough removed to avoid downtown bustle and excessive noise.
Staying with Mark and Swan added a jolt of inspiration and adventure to our trip. They recommended amazing places to go, and suggested the best way to get to San Juan for the last leg of our Puerto Rico tour (Ruta Panoramica). But more than that, they are absolutely amazing hosts and people. We connected in spirit and interests as they shared their beautiful art, work, and home. We caught a travel bug from them as they shared their tales. We can't wait to return, for both the amazingly comfortable home they've created, and invigorating experience they provided. Thank you so much, from both of us.
Mark and Swan were great hosts; very nice and friendly. My sister and I felt very welcomed in their home. The house is beautiful, the pictures don't do it justice, and the courtyard at night is nothing short of magical. The room is cozy and clean.
Mark was a great host. He was very kind, accommodating, and understanding (we were traveling with our 7 month old). He provided recommendations for local beaches and treated us to an AMAZING fruit smoothie the day we arrived that unfortunately I don't think I'll be able to (email hidden)e house is truely lovely and our room was cozy. Parking was also easy (ample parking on the street). We had a great stay.

My creative temperament appreciates the beautiful architecture of Ponce along with the nearby mountains where we maintain an organic farmed based on sustainability and permaculture ideals. I am a professional artist who also resides in Asheville area of North Carolina. My business consist of making chandeliers, cabinet kobs and pulls using carved and tumbled glass.
