Welcome to the JONES apartment!
This apartment is located right in the center of Lisbon. The zone is really peaceful but at the same time really closes from the typically shopping zones, the trendiest restaurants and nightlife spots.
The supermarket is 5 minutes walking distance and the nearest metro station (Baixa/Chiado), less than10 minutes walking distance.
Nearby you will find:
Bairro Alto (5m walk) - famous for its vibrant nightlife, full of restaurants and bars fitting every taste and budget. You won’t forget the narrow streets full of people just outside the bars chatting and watching the night goes by!
Chiado (10m walk) – an elegant and sophisticated neighborhood in the city center with trendy hotels, restaurants and also perfect for shopping!
Praça das Flores (5m walk) – a lovely and romantic leafy square with delicious cafes. Perfect to relax and watch the children playing around;
Príncipe Real Garden (5m walk) - a pleasant square and shady garden. In the center of the square is a café and some exotic trees, including a hundred-year-old cedar that looks like a giant umbrella, all surrounded by colorful 19th century mansions. On Saturdays it happens here the “Biologic Market” and sometimes you will also find a flea market.
Very good location - quiet street but still very close to the main tourist area (10-15 min by foot to Bairro Alto and Baixa/Chiado). Great views from every room and especially from the balcony. The apartment is exactly as in photos - everything looks new and in the good condition.
I was welcomed by Susana. The place was even better than the photos implied. Spotlessly clean, bright, spacious and well equipped. Great view from the balcony as well as from the window by the bed. One of the things I liked the most was the ever changing view from the windows. Comfortable bed, the right kind of mattress. Bed quite low to accommodate the sloping ceiling. So be aware of your head when getting up. Same goes for the sloping ceiling in the bathroom. The flat had the two essentials I needed - central heating and an elevator. The neighbourhood, Principe Real is charming and full of character. Many restaurants and two beautiful squares within walking distance. 773 bus three minutes away, frequent and will take you to Rato metro station. 758 sux minutes away will take you to Cais do Sodre station for trains to Cascais. The flat was very well situated. I liked it and was happy there.
The reservation was canceled the day before arrival. This is an automated posting.
Madalena's apartment is very spacious and light, with lots of space to feel cozy and comfortable. The apartment isn't located in the very heart of the city which is good because it's indeed very quite and calm in the area and the view is quite amazing. The apartment is quite empty though: if you want to use a dishwasher, you need to buy your own dishwashing liquids or tabs, and the same goes for the soap etc. The refrigerator was empty, too. The host was very welcome and helpful at all times. Good view, good apartment, but more attention to missing things would be good, especially considering the price.
My girlfriend and I stayed in the amazing "Jones Apartment" in the middle of October 2014.
The flat is spacious, bright, and in a very good location. We are in our mid-twenties and found it to be close enough to the bars/ restaurants of Barrio Alto / Chiado but far enough away from the bustle to get a good night's sleep. There was a bit of building work nearby, however, with the windows closed, noise was not an issue - neither was temperature, despite the highs reaching 34 degrees (celcius) during our stay.
An additional perk is obviously the well-marketed balcony! Importantly, the entire balcony is bathed in the afternoon sun and one can enjoy views across the city from here after a hectic day traipsing around the city.
A final bonus was the fact that we were invited to stay in the flat on the day of our check-out until our flight in the evening. This was a very kind gesture and far more convenient that having to lug around our bags all day until the flight.
We highly recommend this flat to anyone visiting Lisboa!
This apartment was exactly as listed. The location is perfect and views from the deck and bedroom are top notch. The property is well equipped, very comfortable, clean and modern. I highly recommend this apartment to anyone visiting the area. I fell in love with this city on this trip and hope to return soon!
What you need to know about this place is that it is rented out by an agency. So don’t expect any kind of hospitality or personal touch you might expect from staying with a proper airbnb host. As I do host on Airbnb, https://www.airbnb.co.uk/rooms/929163, I was expecting more.
So The Good
Really large space
Great views to the bridge and lovely balcony to sun yourself on.
Quiet location and very peaceful at night.
Good area for a gay man to stay.
Good wifi connection and speed
And The Bad
No hospitality. You are just buying a space. No maps or information. No welcome groceries, fruit, not even milk or bread. You have to bring everything or buy it. We even had to buy our own rubbish bags.
You may wonder why there's no photos of the bathroom from inside it. It is because it has been fitted in to a tiny space. You can’t turn around and take a photo when you are in it. Can only be used by one person at a time. It is also made smaller by the sloping roofs.
It is an apartment built into the roof space, hence why it so large. What the photos don’t show that it has sloping roofs. So anyone above average height will end up banging their head. There are 3 nasty spots for this is either side of the bed and when getting out of bed in the night it is not something you think of. The third is is right above the toilet and partially sharp ridge that I scrapped a large lump of skin off my head.
No microwave in kitchen
Bedding was ripped.
Bed pillows were so thin that when I put my head on them my guide book was thicker. We did ask for more pillows but nothing happened. No one came round. Our one phone call we were told that they don't go housekeeping so don’t know about it.
The bedding is poly cotton so not so comfortable especially in a rooftop space in a hot country. Made worse by..
No air conditioning. The one unit in the bedroom had an old looking label that send it does not work. Asked when it will be fixed I had no reply. Windows can be open but does not really work as rain gets in and building work in the area.
If you know all this and want to stay you now know what to expect. I do think they are better and cheaper options out there. I am used to staying in apartments in Berlin but this has put me off the Lisbon experience.
