Small, modern, and newly renovated, European-style apartment with private entrance in a nice, quite and cozy neighborhood in Bethesda, MD. This petite apartment has character!
Small, modern, and newly renovated, European-style apartment with private entrance in a nice, quite and cozy neighborhood in Bethesda, MD. Less than a mile away from Grosvenor metro stop on Washington, DC red metro line. It is located 1.5 miles from NIH and within 20 minutes from Downtown DC and most National Monuments.
It includes all cooking utensils, bedding and lines and a queen-size bed. It is just 0.8 miles from the nearest grocery store (Balducci's, a gourmet food market), and there is ample street parking. It has a 32 inch led HDTV with regular OTA signal (no cable), high speed wired and wireless internet, and a PC connected to the TV so you can watch Netflix, Youtube, Hulu, or simply navigate online.
The small place is ideal for one or maybe two people coming to spend a few days in the DC area, to a conference at NIH, or Walter Reed Hospital. There is a washer and drier on the premises, free of charge upon request.
I work from home, so I can make sure to be in the attached home should you have any questions about your stay. Depending on the time you arrive or leave, I will be glad to pick you up from or drop you off to the metro station.
We are more interested in hosting interesting and compatible people than making a few extra dollars. This is why we usually request for you to tell us a little about yourself before we accept a booking request, specially if you have no or few reviews. Our primary purpose for opening up our private, attached home apartment to you is to get to know you, not to become rich. We hope you understand.
If you have any questions at all, feel free to contact me. I usually reply back within hours, unless I am traveling, in which case I will reply within a day.
It is an apartment with its own private entrance. You will receive one or two keys to access the place and you're welcome to come and go at will. If coming home late, please be considerate to our neighbors by keeping the noise level down.
Interaction with Guests
We enjoy meeting you in person upon arrival and we will most likely be in the premises during your stay in case you require anything or if we can answer any questions you may have. While we take pleasure in getting to know and socialize with our guests, each person is different. If you prefer privacy, we will obviously respect it. However, we will make sure to at least say goodbye in person.
You will be choosing a quiet residential neighborhood where folks walk their dogs, parents take their kids to the bus stops, and people greet each other with a smile and a salute while passing by. It is away from the hustle of the city, but close enough to get to it in just a few minutes metro ride. It is also conveniently located, less than a mile away from the metro stop and supermarket stores, shopping centers, world-class performing art centers, gyms, shopping malls, scenic walking/running paths. This is a place I have called home for almost 15 years.
Route 6 bus stops one hundred yards from the place. This bus goes to Grosvenor metro station (Washington, DC, Red line), which in turns travels south to Downtown DC. Unfortunately, the route 6 bus only runs every 30 minutes Monday through Friday from about 6:00 am until 8:00 pm. However, Grosvenor station is only about a mile from our place. It may take you no more than 20 minutes to walk to it.
Normally, I will be glad to pick you up from the metro station or give you rides to it if I am not holding an online conference or I'm otherwise busy with life. If you're arriving by metro, please let me know ahead of time your estimated arrival and I will wait for you at the end of the tunnel from the station.
If you're arriving from Dulles airport, you may take the Supper Shuttle (about $35 including tip, and $10 for each additional passenger), or take bus 5A to L'Enfant Plaza metro station ($7.00, exact change needed), and from there change to the Red line at Gallery Place towards Shady Grove (Off-peak hours: $4.60 Cash or $3.60 with a smart trip card; Peak hours: $5.70 Cash or $4.70 with a smart trip card).
If you're coming from Baltimore International (BWI), the Supper Shuttle will cost you about $45 with tips, and $12 per additional passenger. Alternatively, you may take bus B30 to Greenbelt metro station ($7.00, exact change needed), and from there change to the Red line at Gallery Place towards Shady Grove (Off-peak hours: $4.60 Cash or $3.60 with a smart trip card; Peak hours: $6.90 Cash or $5.90 with a smart trip card).
If you're arriving from National Airport, the Super Shuttle costs about $33 with tip, and $10 per additional passenger. Alternatively, take the Yellow metro line at the airport and change to the Red line at Gallery Place towards Shady Grove (Off-peak hours: $3.60 Cash or $4.60 with a smart trip card; Peak hours: $6.55 Cash or $5.55 with a smart trip card).
Other Things to Note
You may use our washer and dryer by simply asking. We usually do laundry on weekends, but we can accommodate if necessary.
We live on the same single-family unit, so I can attend to any requests you may have. The best way to communicate with me is via text messages, or knocking on our door :-)
While the apartment is small and intended for one person, you may bring your significant other at no extra fee. The place is attached to a private home where my wife and I live with our three small dogs, but we're flexible and open-minded. However, we do need to list some rules:
- Be respectful with neighbors.
- No noise after midnight unless previously agreed upon.
- No smoking in the apartment.
- Be nice with us and our small dogs :-)
- Other than that, we're good to go.
I can't say enough good things about this apartment and my host Rodrigo Villarreal. Even though Rodrigo wasn't feeling well, he met me at the door, helped me with my bags and made certain that I was comfortably settled in. In addition, he provided suggestions for restaurants that were close to this residence. The apartment itself was wonderful. A nice little completely equipped kitchen, dining area and living area. Bathroom with modern fixtures and awesome shower. Bedroom with a comfortable bed. Add the warmth and welcoming attention makes this an awesome place that I will return to again.
I stayed at Rodrigo's for three weeks during a relocation as I adapted to my new place of work. It's a great space with great energy. Rodrigo made me feel right at home. Thank you! I highly recommend!
The host was nice and polite, and the apartment was exactly as described - very convenient and clean
A charming hideaway in a quiet residential Bethesda neighborhood with on-street parking. Our host made the two of us feel welcome by contacting us ahead of time, and being accessible if needed throughout our stay (although we didn't need anything). The accommodations had all the comforts of home, including a nice little kitchen where we cooked breakfast each morning, a couch in front of the TV, and the bedroom was a separate room.
Within walking distance were coffee, groceries, restaurants, and the metro (although we drove half-way to the metro and walked the rest, mostly because we were walking all day in downtown DC and were tired of walking when we returned).
This was a great place to stay for the 10 days we were there, a huge improvement over the "industrial" feel of a hotel. A very relaxing place to "come home to" each day.
We had a very nice stay. The place was very clean, located in a great area close to the metro, bus stop, grocery shopping and very nice walking trail. Rodrigo and Monica were welcoming and very nice!
We were visiting family in the same residential neighborhood as Rodrigo's listing, and his apartment was both convenient, comfortable and as advertised. The bed was very comfortable (most important to us), there was a great shower, and the place was immaculate. Rodrigo is a congenial and responsive host.
Rodrigo and Mónica were very helpful and concerned guests. They helped make my stay in their apartment easy and comfortable. I am grateful for their efforts to be ahead of my needs. They were very nice hosts

I'm originally from Mexico. I went to school on the West Coast (Stanford University) and then to post graduate school in Washington, DC and Milan Italy. I now live in DC and work in the high tech industry.
My wife works for an international environmental non-profit, and we have owned our current home since 2003. We are both ecologically conscious and easy-going.
We have three small dogs, two wonderful Cavalier King Charles and a tiny and playful Bichon Frisè who ARE members of the family.
We enjoy meeting new and interesting folks, and we look forward to getting to know you as well.
