About this listing
Small, modern, and recently renovated, European-style apartment with private entrance in a nice, quiet and cozy neighborhood in Bethesda, MD. This petite apartment has character!
Small, modern, and recently renovated, European-style apartment with private entrance in a nice, quiet and cozy neighborhood in Bethesda, MD. Less than a mile away from Grosvenor metro stop on Washington, DC red metro line. It is located 1.5 miles from NIH and within 20 minutes from Downtown DC and most National Monuments.
It includes all cooking utensils, bedding and lines and a queen-size platform bed. It is just 0.8 miles from the nearest grocery store (Balducci's, a gourmet food market), and there is ample street parking. It has a 32 inch led HDTV with regular OTA (over-the-air) signal (no cable), high speed wired and wireless internet, and a PC connected to the TV so you can watch Netflix, Youtube, Hulu, or simply navigate online.
The small place is ideal for one or maybe two people coming to spend a few days in the DC area, to a conference at NIH, or Walter Reed Hospital. There is a washer and drier on the premises, free of charge upon request.
I work from home, so I can make sure to be in the attached home should you have any questions about your stay. Depending on the time you arrive or leave, I will be glad to pick you up from or drop you off to the metro station.
We are more interested in hosting interesting and compatible people than making a few extra dollars. This is why we usually request for you to tell us a little about yourself before we accept a booking request, especially if you have no or few reviews. Our primary purpose for opening up our private, attached home apartment to you is to get to know you, not to become rich. We hope you understand.
If you have any questions at all, feel free to contact me. I usually reply back within hours, unless I am traveling, in which case I will reply within a day.
It is an apartment with its own private entrance. You will receive one or two keys to access the place and you're welcome to come and go at will. If coming home late, please be considerate to our neighbors by keeping the noise level down.
There is also a laundry room in our attached home (not in the apartment) which you can use. No problem sharing it, but please let us know beforehand that you intend to use it.
Interaction with Guests
We enjoy meeting you in person upon arrival and we will most likely be in the premises during your stay in case you require anything or if we can answer any questions you may have. While we take pleasure in getting to know and socialize with our guests, each person is different. If you prefer privacy, we will obviously respect it. However, we will make sure to at least say goodbye in person.
You will be choosing a quiet residential neighborhood where folks walk their dogs, parents take their kids to the bus stops, and people greet each other with a smile and a salute while passing by. It is away from the hustle of the city, but close enough to get to it in just a few minutes metro ride. It is also conveniently located, less than a mile away from the metro stop and supermarket stores, shopping centers, world-class performing art centers, gyms, shopping malls, scenic walking/running paths. This is a place I have called home for almost 15 years.
Route 6 bus stops one hundred yards from the place. This bus goes to Grosvenor metro station (Washington, DC, Red line), which in turns travels south to Downtown DC. Unfortunately, the route 6 bus only runs every 30 minutes Monday through Friday from about 6:00 am until 8:00 pm. However, Grosvenor station is only about a mile from our place. It may take you no more than 20 minutes to walk to it.
Normally, I will be glad to pick you up from the metro station or give you rides to it if I am not holding an online conference or I'm otherwise busy with life. If you're arriving by metro, please let me know ahead of time your estimated arrival and I will wait for you at the end of the tunnel from the station.
If you're arriving from Dulles airport, you may take the Supper Shuttle (about $35 including tip, and $10 for each additional passenger), or take bus 5A to L'Enfant Plaza metro station ($7.00, exact change needed), and from there change to the Red line at Gallery Place towards Shady Grove (Off-peak hours: $4.60 Cash or $3.60 with a smart trip card; Peak hours: $5.70 Cash or $4.70 with a smart trip card).
If you're coming from Baltimore International (BWI), the Supper Shuttle will cost you about $45 with tips, and $12 per additional passenger. Alternatively, you may take bus B30 to Greenbelt metro station ($7.00, exact change needed), and from there change to the Red line at Gallery Place towards Shady Grove (Off-peak hours: $4.60 Cash or $3.60 with a smart trip card; Peak hours: $6.90 Cash or $5.90 with a smart trip card).
If you're arriving from National Airport, the Super Shuttle costs about $33 with tip, and $10 per additional passenger. Alternatively, take the Yellow metro line at the airport and change to the Red line at Gallery Place towards Shady Grove (Off-peak hours: $3.60 Cash or $4.60 with a smart trip card; Peak hours: $6.55 Cash or $5.55 with a smart trip card).
Other Things to Note
Q: Can I use your laundry facilities?
A: Absolutely. You may use our washer and dryer by simply asking. We usually do laundry on weekends, but we can accommodate if necessary.
Q: What if I need help or something does not work?
A: We live on the same single-family unit, so I can attend to any requests you may have. The best way to communicate with me is via text messages, or knocking on our door :-)
Q: This place is small!
A: Well, that wasn't a question, was it? But yes, the apartment is rather small, hence we believe that it is ideal for one person, possibly two if using it for a short period of time. It does have just about everything you'll need (and if not, please let us know). If you feel claustrophobic, you're welcome to use our backyard, and of course, there is a park across the street and the neighborhood is safe to walk and explore. But please, be aware that it is a confined apartment, about the size of an upgraded hotel room but with a full (yet small) kitchen.
Q: Will I be by myself?
A: If you feel lonely, come over and visit :-) But if you prefer to be left alone, we won't bother you. Good communication enable us to understand each other.
Q: What if I need suggestions to see the town or go out to dinner?
A: We'll be happy to help. Just ask. We're really nice people :-)
Q: Will your dogs have access to the apartment?
A: No, they are very well behaved and they have been educated to respect your place. However, they are extremely nice, so you're welcome to pad them and say hello whenever you want to.
Q: Will I hear noises coming from your home?
A: That's possible, but we're a childless middle-aged couple who are very mindful that you need rest and privacy. However, you may hear the occasional dog bark or our steps going up the stairs. It is impossible to make a room entire sound-proof. If you feel that we're impeding your rest, please let us know. Remember, communication is king.
While the apartment is small and intended for one person, you may bring your significant other at no extra fee. The place is attached to a private home where my wife and I live with our three small dogs, but we're flexible and open-minded. However, we do need to list some rules:
- Be respectful with neighbors.
- No noise after midnight unless previously agreed upon.
- No smoking in the apartment.
- Be nice with us and our small dogs :-)
- Other than that, we're good to go.
