Bright attic penthouse within historic house (1921). It has a private kitchenette, living room, office and bathroom (with walk-in closet)... access to the main house's huge kitchen, living room, garden, etc. Perfect location, central and convenient!
This is a in-law suite... access is through the main house downstairs. Therefore, you have access to the amenities of the main house, plus access to your own private bathroom, living room, kitchenette, office, walk-in closet, etc. Go downstairs when you feel social... hide upstairs when you don't.
Amenities in your attic penthouse:
- living room with TV and cable
- kitchenette (fridge, microwave, coffee maker, toaster oven, cutlery, dishes, etc... everything except a stove)
- private bathroom (with walk-in closet)
- there is a double bed and a futon, however the bedroom and living room are not divided (open concept)
Other amenities in the house (downstairs):
- HUGE kitchen
- Living room with leather couches and TV/Cable
- Washer and Dryer (free, no coins needed)
Interaction with Guests
We try to leave our guests alone. Just a bit of chitchat during "the welcome tour", and again at the end of your stay to see how things went. Now, that said, if you need anything just give us a shout.
The house is perfectly located in a beautiful and quiet residential neighbourhood, yet steps away from Dalhousie University, coffee shops, restaurants, grocery store and downtown Halifax.
Other Things to Note
There is parking right at the house.
A lovely little nest to spend some time in, a nice neighbourhood, cozy accessible. Clean and comfortable.
I chose 1625 Henry for its location. My son was moving into an apartment nearby and I wanted to be able to be a walk away. Most importantly I wanted a calm oasis after a long days of moving. This penthouse lives up to its billing!
Kristina was a most welcoming host, cheerful and ready to answer any question I had. Although Kristina has room mates, the house was very quiet, clean and I was able to come and go as I wanted. The street is very quiet and an easy walk to Spring Garden road and a gem of a cafe two blocks away.
I highly recommend this penthouse and Kristina as a host!
Great place to stay while in Halifax, perfect for our needs (2 people). Really nice neighbourhood, short walk to downtown in one direction or Agricola St in the other. Lots of bus access - we were able to get from the airport almost to the door with one easy transfer.
Really nice attic apartment, feels very private and separate from the rest of the house. Toaster oven & microwave were perfect for small meals, there was a selection of essential dishes, and we used the larger kitchen downstairs one night to prepare a full meal.
We re-stocked all the bathroom essentials & toiletries and left enough for the next people. Kristina was out of town, so she probably just didn't have a chance to check on that stuff.
Perfect home base for exploring Halifax, highly recommend it to anyone!
The space was great - it was very spacious for just myself, it had a TV, I found the mini fridge and microwave to be very handy, it was nice and warm, the bed was comfy, and it was in a great location in a safe neighbourhood. I think if I had to say anything negative about it, it would only be that the carpet wasn't the cleanest, but it wasn't a big deal at all. Kristina and her roommates were all nice and welcoming and I'd happily stay again!
Kristina was so wonderful! A very warm and charming hostess; made me feel welcome but also gave me plenty of personal space. The lodgings were clean and spacious, with a little kitchenette available that was very handy. Lots of windows, which I really love. I would definitely come back again!

About the Host, Kristina
I am a PhD student in Marine Biology (Dalhousie University). In the house, there are 3 other grad students/post-docs (from Canada, Germany and Portugal). They are all easygoing, love to cook, and love to tell stories about their field trips and adventures.
The house is eco-friendly: It is 100% powered with electricity from renewable sources (i.e. bullfrog power). All lights have been upgraded to LED. The furnace burns wood. All exterior walls have been insulated... and more.
