1 Room for $85
Our home is etched into a mountain and we share it with birds, deer and a variety of natural foliage. The decks out front provide a spectacular view of mountainous, wooded surroundings and a quaint downtown area which is just a 10 minute walk down the hill. Whether you enjoy mountain biking, fine wines and great restaurants, or simply an opportunity to get back to nature, this is a good place to do it all.
Our home was built in 1920 and is filled with happy memories. There are flower gardens, decks overlooking the town, a small orchard with various seasonal fruits. It is a good and relaxing place to spend time during the day and rest your head at night.
Guests will have access to a small jacuzzi, wireless internet, a small shed to store bikes, several decks, a living room, kitchen and bathroom to name a few. We have a Pack & Play highchair and toys for a small child. Additionally, we have a foam mat for an older child (7 and under) to sleep beside the bed.
Interaction with Guests
Rob and I are a social couple who love traveling and meeting new people. We also enjoy cooking and look forward to providing breakfast each morning with fresh eggs from our chickens and hand picked fruit from our orchard.
The room is airy and quaint with many windows to appreciate this beautiful surrounding. It is a quiet and tranquil experience where most often the only noise is a gentle breeze or the sound of me cooking in the kitchen or a chicken congratulating her self on a newly laid egg!
We hope you come and enjoy it with us soon.
We have wonderful friendly neighbors, and endless lovely trails for hikers and bikers.
A six min. walk to the transit line. 20 min. drive to the Golden Gate Ferry
Other Things to Note

Please let us know if you will be coming in late at night so we can leave the light on for you and not worry.
Joanna and Rob were very welcoming and I instantly felt at home. Rob came down to help me with my bags and parking! Overall awesome experience and I had a comfortable stay. If I am going to be needing a place to stay in Fairfax area, I will be looking up their first in the future!
The room & house & gardens are just as picturesque as shown! The bed & bedding were quite comfortable, the internet speedy & dependable, and the views are fantastic. Joanna's welcoming attitude and gift of breakfast fare were amazing. In the morning, an hour walk took me up & around the mountain through the clinging hillside houses & lush woods, and back down around to the street leading into the neighborhood, so beautiful & rigorous with the rising & falling elevation. Fairfax looked like a charming town, but I didn't have time to even explore that on this rushed trip.
The only negatives come from what is also a major part of the positive: the mountainside! The parking is tricky (don't count on doing it after dark!), and your bags are carried up 50+ stairs. Be prepared for this, but don't pass up this great spot and delicious breakfast! Absolutely worth it!
LeeAnn, thankyou for your nice review and feedback as well. As I said, we learn something new with each guest. The water shortage is severe and we all have been encouraged over many droughts in this manner. Thank you for bringing new information to the table. We entend to give our guests an option.. We want them always to feel comfortable. Warm Regards, Joanna
Joanna and Rob are very welcoming and attentive to every detail. They are the perfect example of Superhosts. The location, along with the house and property (complete with chickens and bees) is the best possible Fairfax, CA experience. Breakfast was a delight; fresh eggs, homemade preserves and yogurt. I had a delightful stay. Thank you!
My stay with Joanna and Rob was truly a lovely experience. Both of my hosts were gracious and kind and their house was incredible. I was there for three days and I was greeted every morning to the smell of something delicious in the kitchen and my hosts' warm regards. Joanna made sure each breakfast was a true gourmet experience, the majority of her ingredients were procured from her own garden and then prepared with great skill. Every evening when I came back to their home, I was welcomed like it was also my own. I could not have been more pleased with my stay and highly, highly recommend anyone who needs to stay in the Fairfax, stay there.
This is my very first Airbnb experience as a traveller. Joanna & Rob are really sweet folk.. They are kind, attentive God loving people. Their house is adorable ~ clean & cosy with a sweet front yard & balcony to sit & watch the lovely view. I found it uncomfortable sleeping there as there isn't any room for anything in either 'bedrooms' so its not for the weary traveller that needs to rest & settle for a few days ~ there is no cupboard space or drawers or surfaces to put anything ~ more like an emergency over night crash especially as there is no privacy in the bathroom being in the middle of their bedroom & kitchen & a lot going on in the house from early morning so it was difficult to sleep. I found it very expensive for what it was especially as I also have a lovely home in Honolulu with huge luxurious & very comfortable king size bedrooms for the same price. Having said that, when I voiced my concerns to them, they were very attentive & were willing to give me a discount & listen to my recommendations on how to make it more comfortable for future travelers & allowed me to crash in the tool shed with a make shift bunk bed for free when I couldnt find another place on the last night there.
Joanna and Rob made me feel like I was staying with a favorite Aunt and Uncle: time for chatting about gardening and the renovations to the house over tea and snacks, quiet time to read a book and take in the lovely views amidst flowers and fountains, a spectacular locavore breakfast (jam from the plum tree out back, homemade yogurt, eggs from the chickens in the side yard), and an amazing attention to detail and comfort (spare blanket stashed on the deck for when the breeze gets fresh? nightlights and a warmed toilet seat for when you get up in the night? snack in your room for a needed nibble?). I had booked a sunset kayak tour about 45 minutes away and Joanna let me know in no uncertain terms that if I was uncomfortable parallel parking my car on their steep, curbless, cliffside road at midnight that I really should call and wake them up for valet parking. I couldn't have asked for a better experience, and when I go back to the area, I know where I want to stay.
I recently stayed with Joanna & Rob when I was in the vicinity for a friend's wedding. They were both hospitable. I ended up arriving late in the evening after the reception & Joanna was able to help guide me to a parking spot, offered me tea, and had a late night snack of mini crackers & an apple waiting for me upon my arrival.
The next morning, Joanna made a lovely breakfast with fresh scrambled eggs, herbs & tomatoes from her garden, tea with honey, homemade featherlight "touch of grace" biscuits served alongside with homemade wild cherry plum & boysenberry jams, cherry chambord, homemade yogurt, blueberries from their backyard & maple syrup. I got to sit & enjoy the lovely outdoor mountain view from one of their porches while eating al fresco which was a very welcome & relaxing surprise and a great start to my next morning.
We also spent some time talking in her kitchen. Since I enjoy baking, Joanna was kind enough to share recipes & baking tips, along with a local bakery cookbook she no longer had need of with me. The gesture was very generous & I'm sure my guests will enjoy the recipes I make from there for quite some time to come.
If you get the chance, you should take a stroll through their side & backyard terraces & gaze at the fresh produce & flowers. Two of their sons live next door & you can see the start of a cool lookout treehouse that one of them test built there.
I left a packet of seeds for wild orange California poppies (the state flower) that I received as a wedding favor with them & hopefully they'll take root in the coming months and add to their lovely gardens.
Rob was also very kind to help me carry some of my belongings down to the car & we talked about a new hive & honey system they were considering.
If you're looking for a semi-secluded, mountainside, well-kept, hospitable and pleasant true b&b experience, staying with Joanna & Rob is a good choice.
