The Space

The first of our premier trekking destinations is Diamante Verde, (Green Diamond). This incredible jewel of the jungle is located in a beautifully, unique region of Costa Rica. The area, called Las Tumbas, was given its name due to the abundance of hollowed stones, once used by the indigenous peoples for grinding flour. Las Tumbas is surrounded by breath-taking ridges and natural beauty. The Diamante River flows through the heart of the valley. Two kilometers below its natural source, surrounded by 1,200 feet of cascading waterfalls, you will find the “Casa de Piedra” (House of Stone) or as the locals call it.."The Cave". This amazing open air cavern is set behind twin waterfalls and features a full size kitchen and comfortable sleeping quarters.

Located in the heart of the Diamante Verde Reserve, you will arrive at the Stone Age dream house, once inhabited by indigenous people of the area. Guests will be greeted by our warm hospitality, great food and will have unique opportunities to renew their minds, body and soul. The cave, tucked behind 85-foot twin waterfalls, is amongst untamed gardens of petrified palms, primary growth forest and an abundance of plants and wildlife.

Activities while at the cave include hiking to crystal swimming pools, cliff jumping, and exploring nearby trails! If you choose the overnight tour, at the end of the day you will fall asleep in comfort, surrounded by the sights and sounds of Mother Nature at her finest. Whatever your needs,

Diamante Verde Reserve will provide a memorable, once in a lifetime experience!

  • I stayed in La Fortuna for a few days at Roys place. First and for most, Roy was a great host! In the days from when I booked all the way up till I arrived, Roy was very responsive and offering all sorts of advice. Upon arrival, I became lost and Roy was quick to direct me straight to the apartment, and was waiting for me outside.

The photos do not give the apartment justice. It is in a great location, which is secure and the neighbors are friendly. The apartments was very clean, had A/C (though you can just leave the front and back door open and it is cool enough), the bed was comfortable, the shower had great pressure and hot water. The linens and towels provided were clean and soft. There was a back patio, with nice little plants, and a clothes line that did wonders for me who had been traveling for over a week. The wifi was also very quick

You can walk to town within 10 minuets or less, and have everything you need; the town is very small. Roy had several good suggestions on local and international places to eat, grab a drink, places to shop, and more. You want to eat at Soda La Parada, trust me on that one.He recommended doing the Sky Adventure tours, which I did and I can surely say...you will not be disappointed.

I enjoy staying in real neighborhoods to get a sense of the local rather than hotels that cater to tourists. This apartment was just what I was looking for. As a solo female traveler, I felt very safe, and often walked down the street and back to the apartment at night with no issues.

If you are a looking for a great experience in a place to stay in La Fortuna, stay at Roy's apartment. You will be happy you did!

    Pura Vida,

    Lauren

  • Roy's apartment is perfectly positioned and is only a few minutes walk from everything you need. You really feel part of the community. Roy was incredibly helpful and gave lots of advice - his tips are invaluable. The restaurants and activities he suggested were brilliant. We visited Los Laureles hot springs, La Fortuna waterfall, climbed Cero Chato and did the Sky Trek zipline. All are highly recommended. Roy's place was a fantastic start to our holiday - thanks Roy!

  • This was the best decision ever! The apartment was very close to town and within walking distance of many fun restaurants and businesses. My friends and I greatly enjoyed this experience.

  • We stayed two nights at Roy's place in La Fortuna. The unit has all the necessities as far as kitchen, beds, bathroom, and a place to hand wash your clothes.

During our stay there, however, there were issues with the hot water and WiFi connection. Fortunately, Roy was extremely responsive and helped troubleshoot a few of the issues. Ultimately, it was something that couldn't be fixed in the time we were there so we ended up moving to another place. Roy did refund us for the time we did not stay there.

Overall, Roy as a host is extremely good. Very responsive to messages and even sent us a PDF highlighting must-sees in the area beforehand so we are very grateful for that :)

  • Roy was always available to ask question which cam very handy to us. Gave us a nice welcome Email as well as giving us information on actives, and how to get to the house with a youtube video which was very helpful! House is in a safe area and was clean and perfect for us!

  • Although we did not have an opportunity to meet Roy, the communication was excellent from the beginning to the end of our stay. His condo was very spacious for the two of us and we enjoyed having a full functional kitchen to make breakfast during our last day in La Fortuna. You can't beat this location with a mere 3 block walk to the center of town. The view of the volcano from the street didn't hurt either. When I come back to La Fortuna I will 100% stay here again. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

  • Great stay! A really good apartment for even better price. Roy was very helpful, sent us clear directions and even recommendations where to spend time in the area etc.Highly recommended!

  • Roy's place was as expected, clean, comfortable full-size bed, kitchen with microwave, utensils, frig, electric pan, two hot plates, mixer, good WiFi connections and flat screen TV. Nice back patio. Very close to the center, about 10 minute walk to supermarket, park, restaurants, bar, tour offices (Pura Vida Tours and Desafío behind the church) and taxi stand. It was a picturesque view of the volcano. Arriving at night, which I do not recommend, Roy had Jose pick me up for $120, drove on highway which has lots of curves. If you chose to rent a car drive carefully in La Fortuna for locals do not stop at stop signs. Most tours can be driven to by car or taxi: Both restaurants mentioned in Roy's email were close by with good food but no air conditioning. Free bus at Kazan's will take you to the discotheque and back. Safe to walk at night but bring a flashlight when walking back to the apt. Baldi hot springs was great which included a buffet dinner for $31 if you have your own transportation or by taxi. La Fortuna is a small town and very clean. Mostly Spanish speaking locals with limited English but very nice. You can use colones or US dollars.

  • I spent 10 days at the yoga studio, a woman traveling solo coming to San Jose for dental procedures. This was also my first AirBnB experience so I had no idea of what to expect on any level. At first I had an adjustment to the city and the studio as they are a both bit rough around the edges, but after a few days I settled in and grew to be quite fond of both the city and the room I began to call home. As I was not physically on top of my game it was even more important to have a flow, and after adjusting I got that. The location proved to be excellent as it was in the middle of the city, near a great supermarket, with several restaurants nearby, within walking distance of many of the sights, and easy to get a cab when needed. The bed was one of the more comfortable I slept in on my trip, and the WiFi was much better than many places I stayed at much greater cost. The bed and internet connection were of paramount importance to me, especially given my situation. This should help anyone deal with the less than private bathroom and initial hesitation about security. As anywhere, I kept anything I valued out of sight and under my own lock and key and never had any problem or felt threatened. My suggestion would be to get an idea of when the classes are held and plan accordingly. I did and it was no problem. I also appreciated having a little kitchen area to myself, and Stacy even found me a blender for my liquid diet. She was very valuable in giving info or making an occasional call for information I might need. It would be well worth taking a tour from her even if you are not staying there. I would definitely do it again. For anyone who considers a stay at a hostel, this is a far better choice. My only regret is not being in better shape to take more yoga classes, as the one I was able to avail myself of was excellent. It was really nice to be around the vibe there, and for anyone with a daily yoga practice this is a great deal and experience. Also a good opportunity to meet lovely locals. Namaste!
