The Space

The first of our premier trekking destinations is Diamante Verde, (Green Diamond). This incredible jewel of the jungle is located in a beautifully, unique region of Costa Rica. The area, called Las Tumbas, was given its name due to the abundance of hollowed stones, once used by the indigenous peoples for grinding flour. Las Tumbas is surrounded by breath-taking ridges and natural beauty. The Diamante River flows through the heart of the valley. Two kilometers below its natural source, surrounded by 1,200 feet of cascading waterfalls, you will find the “Casa de Piedra” (House of Stone) or as the locals call it.."The Cave". This amazing open air cavern is set behind twin waterfalls and features a full size kitchen and comfortable sleeping quarters.

In order to arrive at “Casa de Piedra” you will experience a 1.5-2 hour hike amongst the pristine cloud forest and rainforest. The steep winding trails and spectacular pacific coastal views will invigorate your sense of adventure.

Located in the heart of the Diamante Verde Reserve, you will arrive at the Stone Age dream house, once inhabited by indigenous people of the area. Guests will be greeted by our warm hospitality, great food and will have unique opportunities to renew their minds, body and soul. The cave, tucked behind 85-foot twin waterfalls, is amongst untamed gardens of petrified palms, primary growth forest and an abundance of plants and wildlife.

Activities while at the cave include hiking to crystal swimming pools, cliff jumping, and exploring nearby trails! If you choose the overnight tour, at the end of the day you will fall asleep in comfort, surrounded by the sights and sounds of Mother Nature at her finest. Whatever your needs,

Diamante Verde Reserve will provide a memorable, once in a lifetime experience!

  • This is a nice little apt with everything you need. Fairly quiet and convenient. New and clean beds, bedding and linens were appreciated.

  • We booked this apartment for 4 days (great deal pay 3 nights get the fourth free!) it is beautifully appointed with great size rooms, shower, strong wifi and a kitchen with all the necessary items required to cook basic meals. The unit is very clean, very safe and very close to town. Getting to the unit itself was easy, we took a 4 hour scenic shuttle from Liberia and met a friend of Roy's at rabfer hotel 200mts from his place who gave us our key. Roughly 5 minute walk to banks, shops, grocery stores, parks, and tour companies. We even managed to walk to la fortuna falls (1 hour hike) for a swim in the beautiful blue river and the falls. Views of arenal volcano just around the corner of the unit. We rappelled in the falls and booked class 4 rafting from here!

Roy was an amazing host who was very prompt in communication, he was very accessible, very helpful in providing me any information necessary and assisting me with any issues I had with my travels, tours and organizing my shuttle services.

Great unit in a great location with an amazing host made for a lovely stay in la fortuna! Highly recommended!!!!

  • The location of this apartment was perfect. Just a short walk to the centre of Fortuna. The air conditioning works great. Although we never got to meet Roy he was always available for any questions.

  • Roy's place is cozy and cute, about a 5-10 minute walk from the main street in Fortuna. A good place to use as a base to sleep and start your daily Costa Rican adventure. This was my first time in Costa Rica and I didn't foresee the drive - it doesn't seem that far, but add in narrow mountain roads, dark etc. and it adds time. Definitely get a GPS or use (website hidden) Maps and plug in the coordinates Roy sends you as it is a bit back from the road in the middle of other places and can be hard to find the first time.

  • Roy's apartment was a perfect hub for our week in La Fortuna. It is located just a short walk from the city center and has majestic views of Volcan Arenal from the road out front. Roy was also a great host; always accessible and helpful in helping to maximize our stay. I recommend this listing and host!

  • Roy's apartment was lovely! Very comfortable and clean. He even had fresh-cut flowers in the bathroom! The bed was very comfortable, there were large fans to keep it a nice temperature, and the shower had good pressure (which is a must for my thick hair). The kitchen had everything you need - coffee maker, microwave, I think I even saw a waffle maker. There is also a cute little courtyard in back. We met Jose, one of his neighbours who is a super nice guy and very helpful.
Roy was also very organized, and sent along an information package with directions to the apt, and lists of his fave activities to check out in the area. Thanks Roy!

    Response from Roy:

Thank you Kate! it's nice to read that you liked it!

  • My boyfriend and I stayed at Roy's place in late February 2014. Roy greeted us at the flat, gave us a map of La Fortuna and offered us great tips for all the stuff worth doing in town, where to eat etc. and was afterwards easily reachable via WhatsApp (even ahead of the visit Roy sent us a detailed PDF with a map, attractions and even a YouTube video of how to find his place, very impressive!)
The flat was even nicer than the photos, super clean and with a fully equipped kitchen (plus there's a patio and a BBQ if you're keen on doing your own cooking). The 10-minute walk into the town centre was not of any inconvenience to us (plus it's very quiet at night).
Roy's place was one of our three AirBnB bookings in Costa Rica, by far the best of them. We highly recommend the place to anyone visiting La Fortuna, Roy is a great host and we'd happily stay there again!
