Description

The space

We are located in the centre of the village and steps away from a small range of shops and the village wine co-operative! Deuxième Maison, our 3 storey village house faces onto the street, where you can sit on the terrace and watch the cyclists go by - or join them for a spin in the rolling hills.

Guest access

You will have the whole house to yourself and this includes the kitchen and a cosy snug on the 1st floor and a large living room on the top floor. There are 2 superbly appointed bedrooms, with large double beds and plenty of wardrobe space. The cupboards are stocked with essentials such as olive oil, condiments and a range of supplies that you are welcome to use. There is plenty of parking out front or in nearby streets and whilst there are buses from Fontes to Beziers and Pezenas we recommend a car to get around. The garage on the ground floor has easy access to the street and is ideal for storing cycles and riding out into the surrounding countryside.

Interaction with guests

We have a friendly English speaking couple in the village who will meet you and give you keys. They can also buy in supplies if you are arriving late and can assist you if there are any problems. When you make a booking we will forward you a copy of our House Book, and can answer any queries or give advice about the region before you arrive.

The neighborhood

Fontès is a vibrant, working village with a population of about 1000. You can see first hand the work that goes into local wine and olive production and enjoy the regular fruit and veg, cheese and seafood stalls. You will know they are on when you hear 'allo, allo, allo....' on the tannoy. Pezenas market on a Saturday morning is a must!

Getting around

Bus shelters and timetables are just around the corner. We can connect you with English-spreaking providers of good quality bicycles, including racing and hybrid bikes. Some will deliver to the door.

Other things to note

We are happy to negotiate a reduced rate for winter stays or for periods longer than a month. The stairs are not steep and have hand rails but there are 3 flights.

We had a marvelous time in the "Deuxieme Maison"! Very well renovated with taste, close to everything and cool even by the high summer temperatures. Trudy, the house manager who's been living in Fontes for 20years+, has been very kind and helpful. Everything was well explained in the house book, with a bottle of rosé as a bonus for guests, in the fridge:-). Thank you again, we'll be back! Serge and Co.

As the owners live elsewhere we were met by Trudy who takes care of the house. She was waiting when we arrived and showed us in and round, gave us the essential information re watering, doctor etc and generally made sure we were comfortable. The house is wonderful; beautifully decorated, comfortable with an excellent kitchen and absolutely everything you would need for a great holiday. The outside balcony is great for dining and people watching. The little town is excellent with everything necessary and the nearest Bar, L'Union was seemingly always open, really friendly and makes great food, especially the pizzas. We are anxious to go back as soon as possible. A first class experience in every way. I wanted to run off with some of the house's decorative features. Cannot recommend highly enough! Thank you for a wonderful, comfortable stay in your fabulous home.

We had a fabulous time staying at La Deuxieme Maison. The village is friendly and had everything we needed. We rented bicycles for part of the time we were there and Fontes was a great place to start our morning rides. The house was exactly as depicted...we enjoyed the space immensely. The beds were comfortable, the kitchen well had everything we needed. Alison was great. The information provided prior to our arrival was detailed and helpful. Trudy met us on arrival and was again very helpful and accommodating. We would definitely stay again!

We had the pleasure of staying three nights in this beautiful and tastefully renovated French home at the end of September. The photos on the web page do not give justice to the actual beauty of the property. The home is equipped with everything to make it a “home from home” experience, including extremely comfortable beds (most important!!!) and an internet connection. The property is situated in the lovely village of Fontes that is unspoilt and offers genuine shops eg baker, butcher, pharmacy, newsagent; there is also a café and a bar, both providing food. We were fortunate to visit during grape harvest season so experienced the activity at the local “Cave”. We enjoyed a wonderful concert at the local church put on by members of the Toulouse Symphony Orchestra, as well as lovely walks in the countryside and enjoyable coffees at the local bar. The Saturday market in Pezenas a few kilometres away is a must to visit, as well as the beautiful countryside and the old towns and villages surrounding Fontes. We plan to book another stay in Fontes next year and will have no hesitation in recommending it to friends and family who may well want to visit the area.

We have recently moved back to Australia after 9 years living and working in the UK and spending a lot of time in France. My partner and I love travelling, gardening, golf, cycling, and have a house in the south of France that we go to whenever we can. We love the lifestyle, wine, weather, history, and people of the Languedoc!
