Our large 2 bedroom home has been lovingly restored and is fully equipped for all you need for a stay in the Languedoc sun. A short drive to the Med or local lakes, Beziers, Pezenas and Montpellier and all that this fantastic region has to offer.
We are located in the centre of the village and steps away from a small range of shops and the village wine co-operative! Deuxième Maison, our 3 storey village house faces onto the street, where you can sit on the terrace and watch the cyclists go by - or join them for a spin in the rolling hills.
You will have the whole house to yourself and this includes the kitchen and a cosy snug on the 1st floor and a large living room on the top floor. There are 2 superbly appointed bedrooms, with large double beds and plenty of wardrobe space. The cupboards are stocked with essentials such as olive oil, condiments and a range of supplies that you are welcome to use. Normally we take bookings for a minimum of 5 nights however for shorter bookings there would be a cleaning and setup charge of eur80. There is plenty of parking out front or in nearby streets and whilst there are buses from Fontes to Beziers and Pezenas we recommend a car to get around. The garage on the ground floor has easy access to the street and is ideal for storing cycles and riding out into the surrounding countryside.
Interaction with Guests
We have a friendly English speaking couple in the village who will meet you and give you keys. They can also buy in supplies if you are arriving late and can assist you if there are any problems. When you make a booking we will forward you a copy of our House Book, and can answer any queries or give advice about the region before you arrive.
Fontes is a working village and we love it for that. You can see first hand the work that goes into local wine and olive production and enjoy the regular fruit and veg, cheese and seafood stalls. You will know they are on when you hear 'allo, allo, allo....' on the tannoy. Pezenas market on a Saturday morning is a must!
Bus shelters and timetables are just around the corner..
Other Things to Note
We are happy to negotiate a reduced rate for winter stays or for periods longer than a month. The stairs are not steep and have hand rails but there are 3 flights.
Tread lightly on the first set of stairs as our neighbours living room adjoins the staircase. No smoking in the house please.
We had a fabulous time staying at La Deuxieme Maison. The village is friendly and had everything we needed. We rented bicycles for part of the time we were there and Fontes was a great place to start our morning rides. The house was exactly as depicted...we enjoyed the space immensely. The beds were comfortable, the kitchen well stocked...it had everything we needed. Alison was great. The information provided prior to our arrival was detailed and helpful. Trudy met us on arrival and was again very helpful and accommodating. We would definitely stay again!
We had the pleasure of staying three nights in this beautiful and tastefully renovated French home at the end of September. The photos on the web page do not give justice to the actual beauty of the property. The home is equipped with everything to make it a “home from home” experience, including extremely comfortable beds (most important!!!) and an internet connection. The property is situated in the lovely village of Fontes that is unspoilt and offers genuine shops eg baker, butcher, pharmacy, newsagent; there is also a café and a bar, both providing food. We were fortunate to visit during grape harvest season so experienced the activity at the local “Cave”. We enjoyed a wonderful concert at the local church put on by members of the Toulouse Symphony Orchestra, as well as lovely walks in the countryside and enjoyable coffees at the local bar. The Saturday market in Pezenas a few kilometres away is a must to visit, as well as the beautiful countryside and the old towns and villages surrounding Fontes.
We plan to book another stay in Fontes next year and will have no hesitation in recommending it to friends and family who may well want to visit the area.
What a delightful surprise! This was like "a home away from home". Alison has made sure that this house has everything you need to make it so special. It is a very comfortable and unique place. We loved the bed, the yummy jams, the espresso coffee machine, olive oil, videos...Alison made herself available through (website hidden), even though Host were always very helpful and around the corner.
Fontes is a very unique experience, we become neighbors very soon, just by buying our baguette every day across the road. A very peaceful and gracious town, only 100 mts away and we were already in the vineyards. We hired a car from the airport so we were able to go to the beach ( 30 minutes) or the lake (20") or any other beautiful town....and we loved the feeling of coming back "home"! after a day away.
Thank you very much Alison for this special French experience. A sure highlight in our year long trip!
We have just moved back to Australia after 8 years living and working in the UK and spending a lot of time in France. My partner and I love travelling, gardening, golf, cycling, and have a house in the south of France that we go to whenever we can. We love the lifestyle, wine, weather, history, and people of the Languedoc!
