Yolanda was such a pleasure to rent from! While we didn't get to meet in person, it was so reassuring to speak to her on the phone and to have her answer our many questions promptly by email. Her father lives in the house next door and was very kind and helpful.
Casa Noemar is a newly built, gracious and beautifully decorated home in the hills above Isabel Segunda. The view of the ocean, stars, and Culebra Island from the living room and deck was our favorite thing. So nice to sit outside with a glass of wine and relax after a hot day at the beach! It's cooler and breezy enough in the hills that no A/C is needed. You will hear the roosters of the island, but that's part of the charm of Vieques. Yolanda has a very well equipped chef's kitchen that we really enjoyed cooking in after too many days of eating out in San Juan. The beds are all comfortable and nice linens and bath products were provided. The home is built in two stories, with the main living area and master bedroom on the upper floor, and two other bedrooms quite separate below, so this would be a good home for families with older children or more than one couple traveling together. It provides some privacy in the design. All rooms are pleasant with views and lots of natural light.
Yolanda's advice to rent a 4 wheel drive vehicle should be heeded, you will need it to get around the island and up the driveway. But you can walk to a very nice small restaurant and good convenience store from the house. We found the house to be convenient to everything, Vieques is not that big! Such a beautiful island, and Yolanda's home is a wonderful place to enjoy it from.
I was born and raised in Vieques and I love to visit the Island every chance I get. The people are friendly and almost everyone speaks English. My Mom and Dad still live there and our house is built on top of a hill and my Dad lives next door. He's an awesome resource for visitors, he can point you in the right direction and help you with any issues that may arise during your visit.
