A circa 1950s rustic cabin that retains the flavor of decades gone by with an artsy twist. It is a place to relax, enjoy the beauty of the woods, lake and gardens, and take in the activities that the area has to offer - from paddling, bike and hiking trails to local art centers and farmers market. Artists, creative spirits, those looking for a place to slow down, connect with nature, who want simple accommodations and grounds with an enchanting feel, will enjoy Deerwood Cottage.

The space
This rustic cabin is furnished with vintage and eclectic furnishings with original art. It was built in the early fifties. Our home and studios are on the property as well. You will have the flavor of a bygone era. The bedrooms, which have three quarter walls separating them, have curtains as doors which open into the small living room/dining area. The bathroom has a vintage claw foot bath tub. The kitchen is furnished with microwave, gas range, refrigerator, and basic cooking equipment. There is no AC and no insulation. A charming Jotul gas stove will take away any morning chill and there are electric fans for the heat of the day, (yes an uninsulated northwoods cabin gets hot), when most everyone is outdoors or sitting on the screen porch or dock (where everyone seems to enjoy their morning coffee). We don't have WIFI in the cabin so it is an opportunity to unplug. Because this cabin is for seasonal use, our space is available for booking from May through September only. Please note that we don’t allow pets, there are two cats in residence on the property (they don’t ever go in the cottage). The cottage is not a good fit for children under 5.

Neighbors on both sides and a girls summer camp ( 8 weeks during the peak of summer) down the road. In peak summer, there can be noise from camp and from boaters on the lake, but there are still tranquil early mornings and evenings even then. We are bordered by woods on either side and the driveway is bordered by woods but we do have neighboring houses. Expect to enjoy eagle sightings, loon calls and local deer.

I am an artist/ hand papermaker and my husband, Greg, is a carpenter. We live with two cats, Frida and Peach, who are indoor/outdoor cats. I also teach art classes for students of all ages in the community and at my studio on the premises. We are organic gardeners and grow some of our own food on our wooded property. I also grow plants for natural dyeing. Having a lifestyle that is in harmony with nature is important to us.

We love to garden, bicycle, kayak and swim on our lake, and enjoy hosting friends and family. We are quiet, go to bed reasonably early, and appreciate visitors who respect our privacy. We will give you your space and respect your privacy and will do our best to help you enjoy your stay with us.
