A very genuine place to stay. Very quiet and relaxed. The local restaurants don't offer that great food for dinner... The best option nearby is the local restaurant school. But be prepared to bring all your food if you want to cook yourself, as there are only limited possibilities to buy food locally. The place is probably best for a couple.
If you like us think that the changing tide of Jambiani it the true Zanzibar experience and the fact the house is situated within the village (though in very close proximity to the beach) adds a cultural dimension to your holiday then I would certainly recommend Joan’s house. We spend a wonderful week here, enjoying the beach, the Indian Ocean and relaxing on the rooftop terrace, which its best feature of the house. Though the rent includes a maid be prepared for a self-contained experience. There are however plenty of small restaurants near by cooking up basic but excellent seafood dishes. Particularly the Stone Culture restaurant is well worth a visit.
