  • Didn't get to meet Itala, but was greeted at airport by Tom, who was fantastic, taking the time to endure any and all questions. Carmen was super, always wanting to make sure I was ok and chatting with me when I want. She also arranged transportation for me a few times. Itala checked in from time to time, too.

  • Nice staff and house, but...

    Too much light.
What is it with skylights in Peru ? Way too much sun in the room at 5am, impossible to sleep without a eye mask.

    Noisy.
Up the hill, you hear small cars motors about to explode in front of your window. Thats when you are not hearing the neighboors talking under your window in the street, the guests talking inside the buildingwith the sound bouncing off, or the too many errant dogs fighting usually between 3 and 4 am. Maybe its the construction, the house is great, but the sound and noise just keep bouncing in...

    Breakfast.
Not bad, bred and jam, fresh fruits. But day after day? A little more would be expected, warm bread or toasts or scramble eggs, but everyday the same, over and over, with the same little, too little, pot of jam that you keep asking for a refill.

    Location.
I thought the house at the top of the hill was a good exercise. Its ok the first 1 or 2 days, but then its start to be unpleasant. You just dont want to leave or comeback more than once per day. Im in shape, but I refuse to take taxis so this was a little too much.

    Staff.
Great staff. Lovable, family oriented caring staff, but wish my spanish was much better as we couldn't communicate much though.

    Overall,
Noisy is what come to mind. Never did sleep well, thats not even mentionning the lack of oxygen in Cusco. Breakfast could be much much better.

  • Place located on top of a steep street. But efforts are quickly rewarded. Very nice, quiet and clean place with all the comforts (bathroom with hot water ...). Itala was not present but we were warmly welcomed by her sister.
    Very pleasant stay.

  • This guest house is beautifully designed. We particularly liked the top-notch showers (great water pressure and hot water) and comfy beds. The rooms are spacious and very clean. Breakfast was good.

We did have a few bumps during our stay here but the owners rectified things even from afar. It seems like Maison Foraleza is going through some growing pains and trying to work out their management. The owners are back in Switzerland and there was confusion about a few things with the woman who was running it when we were there. BUT, that said, Itala was very helpful on the phone and on our departure day she even sent an English speaking manager to help sort everything (some of the confusion was a result of miscommunication from us not speaking Spanish and the temporary caretaker not speaking English). This was handled very professionally in the end and we were happy to leave on a good note. Thank you!

  • We absolutely LOVED staying here... Mostly because Carmen and family made us feel like we were "home." We originally were going to stay for just 2 days then extended the room out another 1.5 weeks. The daily breakfasts were amazing— fresh fruit, yogurt, bread, eggs, granola & coca tea provided 24/7. We stayed in the Matrimonial suite which was beautiful and bright. The only problem with the room was that the heater wasn't working properly, but Carmen was quick to give us the electric heater as they made repairs. Overall, we were very happy with our lovely Cusco family-- Sad that we didn't get to meet Jean and Itala, but please tell Carmen that we will see her in Costa Rica for our wedding :-)
    Much Love, Lisa & Brian

  • Jean & Itala's bed and breakfast guest house is absolutely perfect. If you're lucky enough to meet Itala, you will be welcomed as friends with only the best hospitality. Her 30+ years of experience as a tour guide was appreciated, and she can organize anything you need. She speaks fluent english, spanish, french..and others. My friends and I stayed at the guest house in 3 of their 8 rooms. Breakfast was a huge spread of fresh fruit, coffee, breads, cheese, yogurt, fresh squeezed juices... Itala really went above and beyond. They've just finished a complete remodel of the entire home & guest house, with brand new everything. Hot water and heat are immediate, beautiful new bathrooms with large showers, and all new bedding & towels. It's so cozy, yet spacious on 4 levels. They have a lovely fireplace off the reception hall, perfect for cool winter nights, with a cup of coco tea. Wifi was super fast, allowing us to work while there. The location can't be beat. It's only a short walk to shops and restaurants and about 10 mins to the Saksaywaman ruins (worth the walk!) If you are considering staying in Cusco, we highly recommend Itala & Jean's guest house (they live just next door). It couldn't be more lovely and when you meet them, you will feel like you are home. Thank you for your kindness and hospitality, we will surely be back to visit our new friends and your beautiful guest house :) Cheers, Michelle & Pat Ft Lauderdale, Florida

My name is Itala, I'm a peruvian, originally from Cusco and I've been working as a tour guide for 25 years. With my swiss husband Jean we make a multicultural couple and we have 2 children. We love to welcome our friends in our house so our Airbnb guests will be treated like friends and we also like them to feel at home. We can also advise them about what to do in the Cusco region (arts, archeology, restaurants, music, local market). We speak spanish, french and english...
