The 5 bedroom, 3 story, 6,000 square foot historic Victorian is one of the finest of its quality and scale, remaining from the mid 19th century.
The space
Starting with the intricately detailed front porch, guests will find a perfectionists attention to design and detail throughout the home. The entrance foyer boasts multi-colored chestnut/walnut wood floors, and a winding staircase that takes you to our cupola "hideout". There are six decorative marble fireplaces throughout the first two floors, radiant heat for the entire home, and gaping windows let natural light flood each room.
There is plenty of space for entertaining. The eat-in kitchen features ample counter space, all the cooking utensils and appliances needed to prepare any meal, and high top bistro tables perfect for setting up a buffet. For a more formal meal, the home features a dining room that boasts a gorgeous fireplace with molding.
Wake up in the morning and head to the front porch, nestle into an Adirondack chair and sip a cup of coffee as you take in the beauty of the landscape. End your nights with a stroll around the grounds, exploring the different plants and taking in the peaceful beauty, and perhaps sipping a glass of wine. No matter what it is that you choose to do at Sakonnet Sanctuary, you will be sure to find relaxation.
With five bedrooms in the home, there is plenty of space for up to 12 guests to sleep comfortably.
Note that we do not have central AC. However, each bedroom has individual window units that guests’ can adjust for their comfort.
Please keep in mind that Sakonnet Sanctuary is an ENVIRONMENTALLY CONSCIOUS estate. By choosing to book our property, you agree to respect our RULES namely RECYCLING, COMPOSTING & REDUCING THE AMOUNT OF WASTE PRODUCED DURING YOUR STAY. This includes drastically REDUCING THE AMOUNT OF PLASTIC & DISPOSABLE ITEMS you bring on our property. We provide a high end water filtration system that eliminates the need for plastic water bottles. Dishes, flatware, glasses, and cloth napkins are provided to significantly reduce the need for disposable items.
A $500 FINE will be charged if our ENVIRONMENTAL RULES ARE VIOLATED.
This is a NON-SMOKING PROPERTY. Your group will be charged a $300 FINE if not respected. If you need to smoke, you can do so near our fire pit. However you are responsible for cleaning up all cigarette butts etc.
For safety reasons, there are security cameras set up outside the front and back entryways of the home.
Guest access
Guests have access to the entire three story home (except the basement) as well as the lawns in front of the home. The attached back house as well as garden area is part of a separate private residence. Guests are prohibited from being in this part of the property.
Other things to note
We welcome small retreat groups of any kind including yoga, artist, writers, university department, small corporate, etc. We're happy to recommend local private chefs or caterers to make your stay as easy and comfortable as possible. ABSOLUTELY NO EVENTS ARE ALLOWED ON THIS PROPERTY. THIS MEANS NO WEDDINGS, REHEARSAL DINNERS, BRUNCHES, NOR CATERED EVENT OF ANY KIND AND SIZE. IF YOU HOST AN EVENT, YOU WILL BE FINED UP TO $3000. YOU ALSO RUN THE RISK OF BEING ESCORTED OFF OUR PROPERTY BY THE LOCAL AUTHORITIES.
PLEASE NOTE: All HOLIDAY WEEKENDS require a 3 night minimum stay. These include: Martin Luther King, President's Day, Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day, Columbus Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas & New Year's.
During our HIGH SEASON, MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND through LABOR DAY WEEKEND, we offer a 15% discount on reservations of 5 or more nights!
PETS: If you would like to bring a pet, we ask that you please let us know when booking the property. There's an additional cleaning fee of $150 per pet.
