About This Listing
Conveniently located, nicely appointed, super clean room just minutes away from awesome beaches, fabulous restaurants, live music, fun shops, several farmers markets and much more. When you stay in Kona anywhere on the island is a doable day trip
I'm so happy you are planning on visiting Kailua-Kona! If you choose to become part of my "Ohana" (family) while visiting Kona you will be welcomed by a "Super Host". I was awarded this honor after receiving more than 92% five star ratings from my guests, which I am so grateful!
The State of Hawaii requires I pay a total of 13.5% in hotel and sales tax on income from airbnb, not to mention state income tax! The 13.5 % is included in your cost. Please be aware that many people do not have a license to operate legally! I am open to a 'tip' if spirit moves you to help with this cost, but it is not expected!
I will greet you with a fresh flower lei, have a basket of local fruits and flowers in your room, a box of Hawaiian chocolates in your refrigerator, as well as filtered water, and treats. I provide 100% Hawaiian coffee, and an assortment of teas. You are welcome to use staples in my kitchen for light cooking. There is a copy of "The Big Island Hawaii Revealed" in your room to help you explore options of how you want to spend the days, and I'm here to help you as well! I also have connections for great price on Manta Ray night swims, which my guests rave about! Lori is the BEST massage therapist in the world, and will come to my house and give you a 90 minute massage you will never forget for a super great price! She books quickly so if you are interested let me know and I can help with arrangements. I also provide a local cell phone for my international guests to help with communications for tours and with me! And that is not all! Beach towels, beach bags, boogie boards, chairs, cooler, swim noodles, and I have nice quality shampoo and conditioner all for your use!
If this is your first time to this magical island, do not be dismayed when you land on a huge barren lava field, I promise the majority of the island is lush and gorgeous! This area has so much to offer!
My home is located about one mile South of the Kailua-Kona village area, and 8 miles from the airport. We are 2 miles from the famous "Iron Man" finish line! This location is fabulous and really everything is a very 'doable' from here with out long drives. A day trip heading to the north is about 40-80 miles depending on your route, Volcano National Park is 90 miles South. To the east-side, (Hilo) it is a 1.5 hour drive with out stops. Whether you stay with me or someone else, I personally would discourage you from staying in Hilo, and certainly not more than a night, or better yet, one night in Volcano, see the crater glow at night (if the volcano is active) and a drive back to Kona through Hilo, perhaps visit the Botanical Gardens and Akaka Falls if you like. It rains a lot, and is much cooler than Kona, has a lot of Mosquito's and loud frogs, very little beach. Be sure not to fly into Hilo!
My complex has 2 pools, 2 hot tubs and is well maintained and nicely landscaped. The Turtle Room is a master bedroom with a queen bed, in a 3 bedroom, 2 bath ground floor condo. It is very clean, and bright. The room is tastefully decorated, hard wood flooring, and has green accent colors. There are ceiling fans in the bedroom and living room. The room has air conditioning, however due to Hawaii having the highest electric cost in the united states I charge $7 a day for limited use. There is a small fridge as well as a microwave, electric water pot, etc. There may not be room for extra towels and toiletries in the bathroom so they need to come in and out with you, hair styling needs to be in your room as well. There is a great mirror! Also, I keep a few things under that bed and rarely need access, but would always ask first when I do. I have a large patio with a gas grill and it is quite private. You have limited kitchen access for light meal preparation. I am very easy to talk with so feel free to ask about anything! Needs, wants, help, a bandages, aspirin, etc. If I can help I will!
There is beach access about 3 minutes away walking. Swim beach is 2 miles away. The limited bus service stops right in front of my complex too.
You would be a temporary roommate! Usually it would just be you and who ever is in the dolphin bedroom, (and that is typically a single person), and myself, occasionally I will have a friend over or staying with me, and I have been known to sleep on the couch rarely in that case! I am up late at night usually and up early in the morning, so this does not seem to create any problem.
About me: I am metaphysical in nature, love being around like minded people. My passions are dancing, swimming with the wild Dolphins and cooking. Not a lot of "rules" here except to clean up well after yourself so the tiny ants don't come for a feeding, keep the screen doors closed, be considerate and no cigarette or cigar smoking please close to my place. (vapor cigarettes are fine) I have a washer/dryer and we line dry when possible. You can use the dryer if absolutely necessary. Power is very expensive here, so be aware please, fans off while away and lights off please.
I'm happy to point you in the "right" direction for affordable grocery shopping, points of interest and places to eat and dance! I have no TV, but I have a DVD player in your room, and LOTS of DVDs! I do have WiFi. Please use headphones when possible. The patio is shared with guests.
I look forward to sharing "Aloha" with you.
You have access to the kitchen for light meal preparation, the patio for lounging, eating, and grilling, the pools and hot tubs.
Interaction with Guests
I am here 95% of the time, if I go off island, I have a friend who will greet you and make sure you are well cared for! I'm quite opinionated about great places to eat and don't eat, places to spend time and not. I often will invite you to meet up or go with me to various activities. I NEVER have expectations, just letting you know, and the decision is yours, its your special time in Hawaii!!!!
I'm in a nice pretty quiet condo complex located very close to town, parking is in front of my ground floor unit, and it is nicely landscaped, and there is security person driving around all the time. A small beach seldom frequented by other people is across the street. I love it for sunsets, reading and wave watching. The closest swim beaches are 2 miles either direction, a great snorkel beach is 4 miles away. I'm 1 mile to fun restaurants, hula, music, dancing, dinning, shopping, and farmers market. (Closed Monday)
You really need a car!!!! There is very limited bus service. A cab is 7.00 to town from my house plus tip, $45 from the airport. Tours are great but expensive and many don't pick you up. If I'm free you can pay me to help with transportation, less than a cab, but you will be happiest if you can drive and have a car! I can give you the name of a great site to rent from, and they have a special for international travelers which includes insurance. Airbnb won't let me give any websites or numbers until booking are accepted, but I am happy to help if I can.
Just a few "rules". Quiet time is after 10:00 PM until 8:00 AM. Voices really carry close to the ocean, so if you are enjoying the patio please speak softly if possible especially in the late evening. Please close the patio screen door tightly when coming in and out. I love the geckos, but I like them outside best! No smoking with in 50 feet of the condo. And most important, clean up after yourself in common areas. We have little ants who love any form of food. Keeping the counters wiped off, dished done, and food put away
keeps them pretty much away.
Please de-sand as much as possible. I have a hose on the back patio if you need it. If you do get sand in the shower I appreciate you wiping it out, as sand causes horrible plumbing challenges! Please read the printed pages in your room, there is a lot of info I need you to understand and benefit from! Mahalo
We had an amazing time here! Cecily was more than you could ask for in a host and went well out of her way to help us plan our short time. She had all the local knowledge on where to go and what to do! Room was super clean and nice and we had everything we needed at our fingertips! definitely a way to make sure you love your time in Kona as much as we did!
Another great stay with Cecily! Cecily's place is my home away from home! I was welcomed with a lei and a basket of local tropical fruit. As usual, my room and the rest of her place was clean and comfortable. Cecily even arranged an amazing massage for me from Lori - she brings her own table and the set up fits nicely in the turtle room.
Cecily is a wonderful host. She invited me everywhere! I look forward to staying with her again in August!
(This is the best I could do to translate! Thanks you guys, loved having you!) One has only once mention to Cecily a very great person with the heart in the right place is !! She made us feel like good friends. She lends herself to wherever you want to help out (!) (with out being intrusive). It was also nice of her to talk, and then we go with you to dance, It was certainly a memorable evening for us. Yes, otherwise we can only say, everything was great, everything was right and much more !! There are certainly few hosts so nice to share their apartment and also ensure that you have your own privacy. For us also beneficial that we could book Turtle Room with private bathroom, but otherwise would have been no problem with the loved ones. Everything was just right, cant think of any improvements!
Thank you so much for the beautiful review! I hope the rest of your trip is going as well!
I translated it using Google translate to:
Aloha Cecily, it was a wonderful stay at Turtle Room and the best part was that we have accompanied our journey the Turtles. Thanks to the advice and information from Cecily we could admire this in Natura on the beach and in the sea. Many other information were valuable and helpful for our stay and our discovery requests. With her warmth and her temperament she has looked after us lovingly during the days of our stay and we felt at her home. The room is tastefully decorated, very clean with a private bathroom / WC and there are all sorts of things exist only imaginable that you could possibly need (kettle, fridge, dishes, glasses, beach equipment, shower gel etc). The Directions of Cecily's perfect and it is therefore easy to find, parking almost outside the house. Despite all the privacy was protected and the opportunity to retreat if necessary. To learn a paradise in the middle of paradise, which we gladly and heartily Recommend to Kona and Big Iceland to explore to know people and to experience the Aloha Spirit live. And all this so that everyone can feel comfortable. We say thank you and would definitely come back. Mahalo Helga and Monika

What Helga loved about your listing:
The room was very tastefully decorated, all available, which one could possibly need, the proximity to the center, the. Many tips and support Cecily in any matter where we asked
What Helga thought You Could Improve about the experience:
But the wireless was not a big problem for us
(Explanation from Cecily: I had a problem with my router and it took a couple of days for the new one to arrive, my laptop was available for messages and I have a guest cell phone as well)
I love staying with Cecily. Her place is my home away from home! The Turtle room is clean, spacious, has a comfy bed, lots of closet space. I loved sitting out on the lanai. Cecily is the best host, she knows all the good spots in town for food, drinks, music, dancing, beaches, etc. This was my second stay with her, and I already look forward to staying with her again when I'm back in Kona!
Cecily went out of her way to make us feel welcome and was VERY helpful in giving us tips about things to do in Hawaii! Like having a private travel advisor! She even had snacks prepared when we arrived late. Highly recommend! Cecily knows everything about her island.
Cecily was a warm and welcoming host, even during the holidays with all the special volunteer work she was doing, she took the time to go above and beyond the means to make us feel welcome. She was very knowledgeable about the island and Kona.
The room and place was accommodating with amenities that could be enjoyed and appreciated by the right guest. Hot tub was awesome, bed was very cozy and the room was personalized so we felt comfortable.

About the Host, Cecily
I am a happy hearted, conscience lady who likes to have fun! I am "dancing along to the songs of my soul" which is why I live in Kailua-Kona! This is the most amazing island. Such a variety of things to do and see. It is more laid back with less traffic than any other island, and has more to offer, (except big department stores, for that kind of shopping you want Honolulu)! My passion is cooking and entertaining, enjoying a passion fruit margarita on the patio with you or friends, dancing to the great local bands who performing just 1 mile down the road at great ocean side restaurants and bars, I love swimming with the wild Dolphins, and.... of course, going to my favorite beaches for sunning, playing in the waves and snorkeling. I am easy to talk to, please just ask if you need anything! I am known to have it! I am eager to give you my guidance to great places to eat, site see, the best farmers markets, fabulous Kona coffee, nightly entertainment and how to get to Costco! :)
Welcome to my humble sweet home.
