I booked this listing on the basis of the very positive reviews, which convinced me that it would be a comfortable and safe place to stay as a woman traveling alone. Although Valentina was away, I felt completely comfortable with Alan, who as other reviewers say is a magnificent host as well as an adept tour guide. Cancun was a stopover for me on my return trip to the U.S. from Cuba, and I had just an evening and the next day to explore the area. With Alan's kind attention and boundless energy, I felt like I packed in a week's worth of activities in that time. My "wish list" was simple - to finally see some Mayan ruins. We did that and so much more: a professional Mexican baseball game, a swim in a cenote, delicious meals at out-of-the-way restaurants, tours of beautiful colonial-era churches, and the company of a very nice man and the sweetest little dog you could ever hope to meet. (And I'm not typically a small dog person!) When I described my experience to a travel companion who had stayed elsewhere in Cancun, she said "Oh my, you definitely hit the jackpot of Airbnb hosts!" And indeed I did. The apartment, by the way, is beautiful. I didn't get a chance to take advantage of the pool because we were on the go too much, but it looks very nice, and the roof garden is lovely (though it was a bit too hot this time of year to enjoy it.) And in case you have any concerns about the parrot, there's no need to worry. Unlike others I've met, he's not a screecher. He mostly stands around looking beautiful, and says a quiet "bye-bye" when you leave the apartment. I would most definitely recommend this listing to anyone planning a visit to Cancun. Thanks Alan for a delightful stay. I'm very much looking forward to returning, and hope to meet Valentina next time!
Even though I stayed for pretty much less than 24 hours, Alan made my stay comfortable and relaxing. I booked his property 3 hrs before I got to cancun and he accepted right away, which was a plus. Alan's house is not to far from airport which is very convenient. The pictures that are shown do not do justice as Alan's apartment is like going to an amazing museum. Very artistic and soothing. Alan also took the time to show me around a little even in the little time I stayed. As a first time user, Alan went above and beyond my expectations, which is why I will come back again! I definitely recommend his place to everyone!!! Thanks again Alan and see you soon.
I booked the place 4 hours before checking in. Alan greeted us in the front gate and walked us to our rooms. He was laid-back and super friendly. By far one of the best places I have stayed in Mexico. The house was extremely clean and he even brewed coffee for us in the morning. Great place and a great host!
Alan's home is really more than a nights stay. Provide Alan some advance notice, and he can help you see more of the city. Alan is quick to offer information about local events. Even a week prior to my stay, I had the surprisingly good fortune to connect w/ Alan & attend Association de Oaxaqueños Unidos; a festival and celebration of local products and goods. The regional dress, art, food dance, and dress was a highlight that made for excellent photos and insight beyond the Hotel Zone experience. On the party side: Valentina helped me get to the front of the line & get more drinks than I deserved, along w/ a super evening at Coco Bongo -- definitely check Coco Bongo out, if you like the party Hotel Zone atmosphere.
Sports: Inquire w/ Alan about the baseball stadium, provided a game is playing during your stay, you should go! In my case it was Basketball that evening & I had a wonderful time at the Pioneros basketball game during playoffs, best of 7.
The room accommodations are ideal for the traveler needing to make that Airport connection. He has the best bed of my entire trip. I awoke exceptionally well rested. In my case I came from a multi day stay in Cozumel, then the AM ferry to Playa de Carmen, followed by the ADO bus from Playa de Carmen to downtown Cancun. I previously worked out an arrangement w/ Alan, and he was able to meet me at the downtown ADO, and back to his condominium for the evening. The extra service made my extended stay in the region complete. Remember to check out Alan's office... It's a vista of the Cancun skyline. The room description was exactly as advertised. And definitely included an elevator. It is very close to a nearby major hotel.. and popular intersection, so it is easy to tell a taxi where you need to be to check in.
Alan invites my wife and I back to swim with the whale sharks. The season is just starting... so you, as travelers, should come check it out. Another great AirBNB stay!
Alan made us very welcome in a relaxed friendly atmosphere. I found the location of the place when I was in Cancun a week beforehand, and he kindly showed me round. The accommodation was just as described on airbnb. When we arrived, he gave much useful information to us, and next morning helped us get to the airport for our flight.
He has a lovely little dog who is so friendly, but I thought that the parrot could have said more!
Alan's place is huge. Rooftop patio, outdoor pool, and your room has a double bed with a cot as well.
Alan's little dog Toyo and parrot Chulo are great for animal lovers.
The place is a quick bus ride to the hotel zone to see friends.
You're in the heart of downtown Cancun, not many restaurants, but Alan knows some really great places easily accessible by car.
Feel like adventuring? the ADO bus station is a 30 pesos taxi ride away.
Alan made this experience for us. He was only there for the second half of my trip, but his want to make my experience special was appreciated.
Go to Coco Bongo, Coba, Tulum and any Cenote you can find.
About the Host, Alan
Born and raised in Mexico City. My home is Cancun now but I travel a lot due to my work in the High end jewelry but there is always someone at home (female) who will take care of you if I'm not around. My pet parrot Cholula will make you laugh, when its dark he sleeps! My tiny mini toy poodle Toyo is adorable.
