About this listing
Comfortable and private for two guests, Casa Rica is located in "Bali Rica", a gated 5 acre estate of tropical gardens, fruit trees and exotic plants. The scent of ylang ylang trees perfume the air and the view from your porch is of large Guanacaste trees, exotic flowers, and the jungle faced coastal mountain range. The fruit garden provides a bounty of bananas, starfruit, coconuts, mango, citrus and more
The house is made of Balinese wood, having been designed and built on the island of Bali Indonesia and transported to Ojochal. The king sized bed is extra comfortable with a pillow top mattress, and the full bathroom and kitchen bring all the comforts of home. There is a security safe for valuables and an ipod station for your music. The private plunge pool will refresh and is surrounded by a deck which steps to the Balinese gazebo, where you can lounge away the day - or night. From the porch, the mountain and garden views are beautiful with many birds and butterflies making their home, including morphos - the electric blue butterfly.
The gardens are ever changing with seasonal fruits and flowers at hand for your enjoyment. There are paths throughout the 5 acre estate which will lead you through the botanical zen garden, the labyrinth, through bamboo groves to the Spa House, the meditation stream, or wherever you wander. You may hear the call of the area resident rainbow macaws, along with many other bird species.
Of special note is the on-premises "Palm Spa", which offers convenient spa treatments for guests of Casa Rica.
The garden is also home to The Namaste Pavilion, an open-sided, teak-floored sanctuary. This is where yoga classes are held every Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings, or private classes, by appointment, are available for your wellness and pleasure. There is also a DVD player and a choice of DVDs. Guests have also used this inspiring space as a painting studio.
And for those considering a more permanent situation in Costa Rica, we will be happy to guide you to trustworthy people who can show you available properties in the area.
The village of Ojochal is ideal for lovers of gourmet cuisine with a number of the area's finest restaurants. There's also a popular French bakery nearby with delicious breads, and a Licorea for those looking for special ingredients to cook at home.
Casa Rica is located 3 minutes from the scenic and paved Costa Rican coastal highway. No 4wd vehicle is necessary to access this property. This retreat will feel remote, but is convenient to many activities the area has to offer.
Just 5 minutes away is one of Costa Rica's most beautiful beaches, Playa Ventanas, and the popular surfer's beach in Dominical, is approximately 30 minutes north. The newly built San Buenas Golf Course is 10 minutes south, and many other local attractions are close by; waterfalls, horseback riding, zip lines, off shore fishing and boating, etc.. For book lovers there is a library within walking distance.
A perfect retreat, honeymoon hideaway, or for the solitude of one, Casa Rica is a place which can be a comfortable home base for exploring the riches of Costa Rica, or a private hideaway to rest and revive.

Our too short, two-week long visit was truly magical. From the welcoming committee of your three beautiful dogs, families of ducks and rogue chickens, to exploring waterfalls and beaches in the area, our visit has been an experience of a lifetime. Thank you for all of your wonderful recommendations, chilli peppers and star fruits!
Sharon welcomed us after dark in the rain to the villa. She left us a lovely basket with fresh fruit and banana bread and gave us restaurant and activity recommendations. In the morning she showed us around the property. The town of Ojochal was an amazing home base for exploring beaches, waterfalls and other small towns. Also, we found the European community there creates a low-key, gourmet vibe - without commercialism. The plunge pool was perfect for afternoon cooling off. The villa was quiet and peaceful; we fell asleep to sounds of bats and heard monkeys in the morning! This was an amazing vacation.
The hosts were very welcoming and allowed us to really enjoy our stay. We enjoyed the privacy and the sanctuary that Casa Rica provided, not to mention the beautiful surroundings and the wildlife. Do you enjoy sitting on the porch and watching a warm rain, or having a glass of wine at sunset and listening to the nighttime creatures chorus? This is the perfect spot.
Had a wonderful stay at Casa Rica! Stayed there based on the wonderful reviews and it does not disappoint, 5 stars. Pictures absolutely do not do the grounds justice, a relaxing sanctuary. The location is close to many beaches (from 10 minute away drive), many restaurants, grocery stores. I would suggest a 4 x 4 to not have any limitations, as some roads require it. It is not required to get to Bali Rica, but makes for a less bumpy ride. Mac and Sharon were amazing hosts... Genuinely kind and helpful, great communication throughout the booking process. We hope to be back for another visit and highly recommend!
Bali Rica is incredible. Stay here for as long as you can. There's no way to describe the feeling of waking up to the sounds of wildlife or the smell of flowers every morning. Coffee out on the Balinese gazebo surrounded by nature was surreal. Casa Rica is impeccably decorated, and everything is carved from dark wood. The ceiling is so high and beautiful, with huge wooden beams and a thatched roof appearance. There's a small pool that was great to dip in to refresh. Fruit trees are everywhere. There is a landscaper who keeps the place gorgeous every day, and even chopped us some coconuts to drink from. Sharon was so kind and welcoming and gave us a ton of suggestions for what to do--we did everything we had time for in our 4-day stay and had a great time. Our favorite thing was Don Lalo's horseback ride to the Nauyaca waterfalls, which included breakfast and lunch. Azul for sunset is a must (you can just get drinks if you don't want to do dinner), and you should definitely do either Citrus or Exotica for dinner. We stayed 4 nights but would have booked more if it were available. We definitely hope to come back some day. Thank you Sharon!! We are very grateful for the work you've put into such a beautiful property and for your welcoming spirit.

Words can't describe Mac and Sharon's property...but I'll try. Bali Rica is a lovely retreat nestled in a beautifully serene and lush oasis. The cabin is just as described with an immaculate interior and very comfortable bed. The Wood Rails quickly became a favorite as they reliably woke us with their endearing confused chorus every morning. The smell of Ylang Ylang was intoxicating as you entered the cabin and we won't soon forget the beautiful colors littered throughout the grounds. We thoroughly enjoyed the diverse and quaint town of Ojochal, which offers a suprisingly large array of gourmet restaurants. Our favorite dining experience was Ylang-Ylang. Hans and Catherine were so very kind. Eric and I enjoyed Hans' stories and company. The food was superb. Mamma E Papa was also very nice with a great variety of homemade pastas and Italian desserts. Pancito bakery was a short walk from the property and was a lovely place to start your day. If one tires of the fancy dining options, we really liked Le Bistro in Ojochal for a very relaxed evening after a long day at the beach. Nauyaca Waterfall is a must day trip....such a sacred space, but be prepared for a climb. We used Uvita Information Center to schedule tours to Cano Island and Corcovado NP and booked with Pearladelsur. Elisa was great to work with. I honestly could go on and on about this area.....the beaches are secluded and we had several all to ourselves, which was amazing. Playa Colonia was a favorite for swimming. (The first entrance to Marino Ballena NP by the Goathouse) Playa Ventanas was great for exploration and Playa Uvita (Whales Tail) was perfect to catch one of Costa Rica's stunning sunsets. Azul restaurant was fabulous to watch a sunset. (try the seafood soup, it was delish) Hacienda Baru by Dominical was nice as well, with plenty of trails to explore to escape the heat. Dome Burger has great menu for lunch and breakfast also on the way back from Hacienda Baru. Mac and Sharon were both so helpful with recommendations and information about the area. Their property is so exquisite, we also enjoyed just hanging by the pool and hiking the trails behind the cabin. Thank you both so much for your hospitality and for sharing your space with us so freely!

About the Host, MacandSha
Originally Mac is from Texas and Sharon is from N.J.. We met on the island of Andros in the Bahamas, and fell in love "underwater" in the blue seas. That was many years ago and we've since traveled the world.
Having lived for some years in Bali Indonesia, we were enchanted by the feel and beauty of the island, and have tried to bring a taste of that to our vacation homes for travelers to enjoy.
Our goal is to provide our traveler's vacation homes, Casa Rica, Casa Roca and Casa Bambu with a taste of the world and the heart of local love.
