The space

Comfortable and private for two guests, Casa Rica is located in "Bali Rica", a gated 5 acre estate of tropical gardens, fruit trees and exotic plants. The scent of ylang ylang trees perfume the air and the view from your porch is of large Guanacaste trees, exotic flowers, and the jungle faced coastal mountain range. The fruit garden provides a bounty of bananas, starfruit, coconuts, mango, citrus and more

The house is made of Balinese wood, having been designed and built on the island of Bali Indonesia and transported to Ojochal. The king sized bed is extra comfortable with a pillow top mattress, and the full bathroom and kitchen bring all the comforts of home. There is a security safe for valuables and an ipod station for your music. The private plunge pool will refresh and is surrounded by a deck which steps to the Balinese gazebo, where you can lounge away the day - or night. From the porch, the mountain and garden views are beautiful with many birds and butterflies making their home, including morphos - the electric blue butterfly.

The gardens are ever changing with seasonal fruits and flowers at hand for your enjoyment. There are paths throughout the 5 acre estate which will lead you through the botanical zen garden, the labyrinth, through bamboo groves to the Spa House, the meditation stream, or wherever you wander. You may hear the call of the area resident rainbow macaws, along with many other bird species.

Of special note is the on-premises "Palm Spa", which offers convenient spa treatments for guests of Casa Rica.

The garden is also home to The Namaste Pavilion, an open-sided, teak-floored sanctuary. This is where yoga classes are held every Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings, or private classes, by appointment, are available for your wellness and pleasure. There is also a DVD player and a choice of DVDs. Guests have also used this inspiring space as a painting studio.

And for those considering a more permanent situation in Costa Rica, we will be happy to guide you to trustworthy people who can show you available properties in the area.

The village of Ojochal is ideal for lovers of gourmet cuisine with a number of the area's finest restaurants. There's also a popular French bakery nearby with delicious breads, and a Licorea for those looking for special ingredients to cook at home.

Casa Rica is located 3 minutes from the scenic and paved Costa Rican coastal highway. No 4wd vehicle is necessary to access this property. This retreat will feel remote, but is convenient to many activities the area has to offer.

Just 5 minutes away is one of Costa Rica's most beautiful beaches, Playa Ventanas, and the popular surfer's beach in Dominical, is approximately 30 minutes north. The newly built San Buenas Golf Course is 10 minutes south, and many other local attractions are close by; waterfalls, horseback riding, zip lines, off shore fishing and boating, etc.. For book lovers there is a library within walking distance.

A perfect retreat, honeymoon hideaway, or for the solitude of one, Casa Rica is a place which can be a comfortable home base for exploring the riches of Costa Rica, or a private hideaway to rest and revive.

What a wonferful place to stay at! It's in great proximity to grocery stores, excellent restaurants, and the beach! The grounds were beautiful and very peaceful. I loved the chickens as they seem to laugh when they walked by. The little pool was refreshing on humid days and the bungalow itself was just perfect. It's not as big as I intially thought, but it didn't matter. It's great for a couple or a single person. Plus we spent more time venturing out into different towns and beaches. Mac gave us great suggestions for places to see, as well as Sharon suggested great restaurants to dine at. I have to say it was an amazing trip and I'm so glad we found Bali Rica! It really made our honeymoon special.

Casa Rica and the surrounding property is simply stunning. We stayed for part of our honeymoon and could not have found a more idyllic place. It felt as if we were in the middle of the jungle. Sharon was extremely hospitable and helpful. We highly recommend Casa Rica!

We were welcomed to this natural paradise by Sharon and her friendly dogs at the end of our anniversary trip to Costa Rica. The casa is beautiful and although it was hot when we were there we adjusted very quickly and found that the fans provided enough cooling for us. The plunge pool was great and the breakfast we ordered one morning was amazing! We were so busy we barely had time to explore the whole property after our tour but there is lots to explore. We do recommend getting a rental car although we usually travel without. Things are spread out along the pacific coast and a car will definitely allow you to enjoy the area more. You can walk to Playa Tortuga which is a free/wild beach where we met a man Carlos who has a hut on the beach and fishes from a small boat. He was very friendly (speaks only spanish) and even gave us some of his bananas! We also drove north to Dominical for a surf lesson and also Playa Uvita and Playa Ventanas and Playa Hermosa. Look up the tides for the beaches so you don't get caught unaware by a high tide. Wake up early with the sounds of the wildlife all around you; say good morning to the chickens and get out and explore or just while away on the property! You will enjoy the time either way! (Yes, there will be sounds of wildlife and bugs and the road to the house is rocky and a bit steep but it's worth it to be in nature!) Thanks also to Osvaldo and Melisa!

Mac and Sharon were very welcoming! Their recommendations for things to do and places to eat were spot on. We loved that we got a tour of the property and that they were available if we ever needed anything! The casita was perfect and we loved getting to cool off in the pool and hang out in the cabana or on the porch. Also, it was great that there was a yoga class that we could go to. All of the restaurants we ate at in the Ojochal area were amazing, especially Citrus!

Originally Mac is from Texas and Sharon is from N.J.. We met on the island of Andros in the Bahamas, and fell in love "underwater" in the blue seas. That was many years ago and we've since traveled the world.
Having lived for some years in Bali Indonesia, we were enchanted by the feel and beauty of the island, and have tried to bring a taste of that to our vacation homes for travelers to enjoy.

Our goal is to provide our traveler's vacation homes, Casa Rica, Casa Roca and Casa Bambu with a taste of the world and the heart of local love.
