While I wish I could say that the terrible experience we had reserving with Piera was just bad luck, an unfortunate situation, or some other thing that happened to both host and guest and not just to us, I find that hard to believe. The short story is, my wife and I have used AirBNB for many reservations in Central America, and the US, we host in our apartment in Brooklyn and truly love what AirBNB stands for. Thats why is absolutely the most annoying thing when we encounter hosts like Piera.
We booked a reservation in February for the apartment pictured here, on Via Della Scrofa in the Historic Zone of Rome. No problems, normal communication with Piera via airbnb messenger asking about parking and confirming arrival time. 1 day prior to arrival I got a call on my cell phone from Piera asking if we could meet at a different location the following day. I said no problem, took down the address and confirmed via text our arrival time. No mention of any other changes.
When we got to the new meeting place, a woman named Silvia told me that Piera's apartment had been double booked and that we would be staying in her apartment at this new "meeting place". Piera also said something about "no hot water" in her apartment and that they would have to put us up here. No other explanation, although Silvia did tell me she was contacted "2-3 days ago" with this information. We didn't find out until we were in Rome and had arrived at the meeting placed.
Silvia's apartment was nice enough, but much smaller, no balcony, no bright pictures, no loft bed and no wifi. Piera's sister came by with a portable wifi the next day but because Silvia's apartment was ground floor, not only was there no light but no signal. Piera's sister when she dropped off the wifi mentioned nothing about hot water problems but did "apologize for double booking" and said "we haven't taken pictures of this apartment to put on airbnb yet, but we hope its ok".
As a loyal AirBNB user, this is totally unacceptable. If there truly was a problem with the hot water in Piera's apartment, letting us know before we arrived in Rome would have been professional, and as hosts ourselves we probably would have worked with her to resolve it. But given her lack of transparency, changing stories why her apt wasn't available, the fact that the day that we left Silvia asked me if we had refused to pay Piera because Piera was withholding her payment for us in her apt, I think this is more likely just bad business practices on the part of Piera. Unfortunately she is one of the hosts that gives AirBNB its bad name. Its a shame, because its a great service, we love it. We have people staying in our NYC apartment now and hope that our future stays with other hosts are better.
Accueil très chaleureux de Francesca qui vous donne conseils et vous guide pour vos visites devant un excellent café.
Appartement très bien situé au centre de Rome à proximité de tous les monuments et places à visiter. Très propre.
Adresse à recommander sans problème.
Great apartment, the shower can be a little claustrophobic though.
Gio, the man that works for Pierra was just great! However communication with the host was minimal and pretty much absent. We were not told the street number of the building, making it hard to find the apartment, nor did she let me know the check in time until I asked her about it (in that case I got the ok for 11am check in and then was later told she meant 1pm).
Overall the apartment was a great location, was clean and had great security. However, due to the host's limited English, communication was frustrating and confusing.
Also another thing to note was that the dishes in the cupboard were dirty? I'm thinking that other guests haphazardly washed them and put them back... Not a big deal for me, but could have been an easily avoided thing.
Overall it was a pleasant experience, I would recommend the apartment on account of its great location and wonderful staff (just be sure to confirm check in and address WELL IN ADVANCE to avoid miscommunication and frustration)
Good location and value, but the shower is too small. I'm not a large guy and I had trouble moving in the shower. Lastly, we couldn't get the wifi to work. Everything else was good. Piera and her sister were very helpful. Thank you for the stay!
The reservation was canceled 33 days before arrival. This is an automated posting.
Fantastic central location and really helpful host but not everything we had hoped for.
Travelling in mid-February the cost of the apartment per night was comparable to that of plenty of 4 star hotels but we chose Air BnB for the added privacy of having our own living space for a few days and so that we could save a little by, for example, stocking up with basics from the supermarket and eating breakfast in the house.
Unfortunately there is not very much in the way of kitchen-ware (e.g. only 1 glass, no filter/cafetiere to make coffee) and the lack of a reliable internet connection (wifi is provided by a mobile wifi-router that has a very slow 3G connection) made planning routes / activities a little more tedious than would be the case with a wired connection.
The photos are very accurate and it is a nice, clean space that is a fine choice if you are only going to be sleeping here. However, if that is the case you can probably get a nicer hotel room at the same price.
Merci :)
Awesome apartment in the center of everything, can't wish for a better location. The handler/overseer (Natalia Randazzo) speaks Russian which was a treat to us - met us outside of the apartment complex and showed us around. We are really grateful to her. Piera, please list your address in full detail, it was missing the number of the building and without Natalia standing outside we would have not found it. the room downstairs is a bit on the cold side, but bedroom is nice and warm. Bed is a tiny bit narrow, but we were okay! thank you very much for the stay, we enjoyed it. would love to come back one day!
4 nuits de rêve , dans un cadre raffinée et idyllique . le duplex est situé dans le centre historique de Rome , idéal pour visiter seul ou à deux "la ville Eternelle "
