This is a lovely home. Clean and spacious. The back yard is lovely. It is quiet and sparsely decorated so you do not feel you are in someone else's home. Very convenient. Trattoria across the street was wonderful.
If I ever make it back to Siena, I would definitely stay here again. The place is extremely spacious and unique, the bed very comfortable, and the private yard is a great place to unwind. The location is excellent.
I didn't meet Luca, but she was very responsive.
Two things to know about the place:
1) The lock is to the apartment is unlike any I've encountered: every time you turn the key, the deadbolt only moves a little bit. In other words, keep turning the key clockwise to get the deadbolt all the way out of the lock, then you will need to pull the door towards you a little (while holding the key turned) in order for the door to open. It isn't a stubborn lock, just quirky, and it took us a little while to figure it out.
2) We didn't read up on Siena before deciding to drive there, but the apartment is in a residents-only driving zone. In other words, you'll have to park outside of the city walls (we used the Santa Caterina parking garage on Fontebranda), and walk to the apartment (10-15 min walk, mostly uphill, but worth it).
thank you for sharing your experience with the lock. It will be helpful for other travellers.
You are right about the parking indications. I have automatically inserted that info for my other apartment Galluzza 1 and thought I had done so also for Galluzza 2. It arrives automatically with the booking, so sorry. My bad.
Upon our arrival there was no one to let us into the apartment this was discouraging due to the fact that we had traveled all day prior. Luckily the tenants of a connected apartment were able to let us in and the keys were waiting for us in the foyer. Over all Luca was hard to reach and slow to return our emails. The apartment was very spacious with a lovely patio, (facing St. Catherine Church) that was used for dining during our stay. There were nice clean cotton sheets and the beds were comfortable. The kitchen was great. Other things to note, the bathroom is deceivingly tiny and did not have toilet paper when we got there so we had to got out and buy some ourselves. Also the bathroom was not clean, there was hair in the shower. Out of the four of us, two of us ended the trip with multiple bug bites unfortunately. Besides those couple of complaints the place itself was beautiful and the location of the apartment was extremely close to the campo and a small square with a place to send mail and buy postage. Our overall experience was still very enjoyable. The restaurant across the street was superb! The gnocchi and the mushroom soup are the best.
The place was how it appears in the pictures. Luca was not able to meet us so she had a friend show us the apartment. Her friend was very nice but quickly showed us the apartment. She didn't tell us how to unlock the door which was actually quite difficult. Also beware, the church bells go off in the morning and you will hear it!
Great place! We loved the garden with the beautiful view. You can always quickly get back to "la galluzza" when you're tired from the city to relax, it's perfect located. It was clean and well prepared for us. We didn't meet Luca but there where no problems with comminicating and his friend Chiara helped with questions.
