  • Cathy is very kind and hospitable and it was nice to be down the street from my place of visit. Would stay again!

  • Three friends and I stayed over at Cathy's for a nearby wedding. The rooms were cozy and the beds were comfy, and she provided space heaters as it had gotten a bit cold overnight. Their dogs were adorable and super friendly. The house is in a beautiful neighborhood with the beach no more than a short walk away. Cathy was a great host who gave us lots of great tips and welcomed us into her home with open arms - we couldn't have really asked for more. Thanks!

  • Cathy was very friendly, easy-going, and flexible. The room was nicely appointed, with good bed, TV, small fridge and toaster oven. It was private and quiet. The house is in a great location, very close to the beautiful beach and nice small shopping area, where there's a good natural market and some good restaurants. All in all, an excellent stay. Thank you, Cathy!

  • Very comfy bed, welcoming and helpful host, and safe neighborhood near the beach. Couldn't ask for more.

  • We had a great time in Aptos staying with Cathy. The rooms were just what we needed, and she was super flexible about our coming and going. We were there for a wedding and some nights we didnt come back to sleep till 3am. The dogs were adorable and very very well behaved. The bathroom and shower were clean and tidy. The beds were comfortable as was the climate control. There was plenty of privacy as well as a beach and breakfast cafe within walking distance. It was quiet and lovely, exactly what we needed for this trip.

  • Cathy was extremely helpful and incredibly flexible when it comes to checking in. The bedroom and bathroom were very clean with ample amount of towels and lots of privacy. She had an extra single air mattress ready aside from the queen bed which was great for us since all we wanted was to sleep. Our 4 year old daughter loved the dogs Shelby and Scooter, who were extremely friendly to children.
Location of her home was perfect for checking out Santa Cruz boardwalk and it was an easy drive from Gilroy Gardens. So glad Cathy recommended the boardwalk. Thank you for having us!

  • Cathy is a kind, trusting, and accommodating host. She wasn't home when we arrived and we had the misfortune of showing up while her daughter was in the midst of an emotional phone conversation, but the room itself was clean, comfortable, and even had a mini-fridge for us to use. There is a fish tank with a plump goldfish in the room as well. We had a bathroom to ourselves which was also spotless and were provided brand new bath soap and toothpaste, a nice touch.

The room has a sliding glass door which opens to their backyard, home to one large dog and one humongous beast of a dog, both very, very friendly but shedding constantly. The dogs do scratch at the sliding glass door for attention at times during the day, and they sleep in the hall outside the guest room at night so if you are allergic or afraid of dogs this probably isn't your best bet. I love dogs and probably would have played with them more if we had more time there, and if they weren't shedding as much as they do in late June.

The only other negative consisted of being able to hear a bit of a family argument happening upstairs (the kitchen, living room, and other bedrooms are on the second floor above the guest bedroom) which was a little uncomfortable for us, but we didn't get the sense this was a regular occurrence or anything.

Overall, the room is great, very comfortable, and a fantastic location, and the host is affable and very generous with sharing use of the kitchen and upstairs patio. We might have caught them at a bad time, I'm not sure, but it was still a lovely stay and a great experience.

  • We were very comfortable during our two night stay at Cathy's. She made us very comforable with a clean well equipped queen bed and private use of the bathroom. The in room fridge and toaster oven are also a nice feature Although we didn't hang out there other than to sleep she invited us to use her living room. As mentioned here, her two dogs sleep in the hallway at night, but they are beautiful and well-behaved and never barked during our stay. Thank you Cathy for welcoming us into your home.

  • We had a great stay here. It is definitely as described: easy walking distance to seascape beach. Everything was quite pleasant.

  • We didnt feel that it was worth the price. I dont like to be critical, but her ad showed pictures of the entire home, advertised bicycles for personal use, and gave us the impression that there was room for three people in this bedroom, which is what made her place sound appealing. for just a place to sleep, the value was considerably less than if we would have booked a motel complete with continental breakfast. One of the bikes was needing a tire, the air mattress on the floor was crammed in, and we were not invited upstairs. Cathy and her daughter were very nice. Just a little misleading.

    Response from Cathy:

Sorry Gloria, we were super busy that weekend and you were more than welcome to come upstairs. You guys came in so late, which was fine but I thought that you were wanting to be left alone and go to bed and I believe that you were gone by the time I woke up.

Sorry for the miscommunication. I would like to add that in this area (Aptos), you can not find a decent motel anywhere that is even remotely in this price range, maybe you are thinking of downtown Santa Cruz.

    Sorry again for the mishap.
