SUMMARY IF YOU DON'T WANT TO READ ALL THIS:

BEAUTIFUL / LIGHT / SAFE / CENTRALLY LOCATED / ELEVATOR / DOORMAN / QUEEN BED + SOFA FOR 1 / WiFi + PREMIUM CABLE / 32" FLAT SCREEN / SMALL KITCHEN / SHEETS + TOWELS/ ACCOMMODATES 2 (3 IN CERTAIN CASES)

Beautiful and light jr. one bedroom next door to the U.N. in Midtown East. On the ninth floor of a historic elevator building with 24 hour doorman, it has a wonderful view of the Chrysler Building.

Beautifully decorated, the apartment features a queen bed in the bedroom. An air mattress is available, as well. Two people can stay here very comfortably, three in certain circumstances.

There is a huge walk-in closet with plenty of hanging space, plus a chest of drawers for your use. A hair dryer, travel iron, and umbrella are available. Please provide your own soap and toiletries.

In the living room there is a large, comfortable couch for lounging or TV watching, a small writing table (can be used as a bar for entertaining), a reading chair by the window and a dining table, too. A bookshelf holds a small, diverse collection of books, and I have maps of the city and subway system for you to borrow.

There is an A/C unit, or you can open the windows in nice weather. Warning: this is New York City -- when the windows are open, it is not particularly quiet!

This is a non-smoking apartment.

High speed internet, 32" flat screen TV, premium cable channels, on-demand movies (some with a small fee). I've also added an iPhone/iPod charger/player.

Small kitchen mainly suitable for warming up food and fixing drinks. Please look at the picture and judge for yourself whether it will fit your needs if you want to cook a lot -- definitely not made for elaborate cooking. All the basics are there: small stove, oven and fridge, toaster oven and microwave, dishes, utensils, pots and pans. Also, ice bucket, bar tools and wine glasses for entertaining or quiet evenings with a drink.

Fresh, clean sheets and plenty of towels are provided, and there are 6 pillows there, some feather/down and some synthetic. Laundry facilities are in the building, and I have laundry soap for your use, or your laundry can be done for you for an added fee.

There is a 24 hour convenience store a few steps away, as well as several around the corner. Within two blocks you will find: a 24 hour drug store, cafe/bakery, dry cleaner, fruit stand, health food store, gourmet supermarket, bank, organic hair salon, post office, and much, much more.

There are many wonderful restaurants and take out places within a block, and TONS within 3 blocks.

From the building it is a 6 minute walk to Grand Central, where you can get a subway to almost anywhere. A bus stop is a 2 minute walk in either direction. It's super safe and secure, with a 24 hour doorman, security cameras within the building. There also happens to be a lot of extra security along the street because of proximity to U.N., but even without all that, it's simply a nice, safe area (though I think almost all of Manhattan is nice and safe).

  • The apartment is just as pictured: light and bright, ideally placed for visiting UN staff. Would definitely recommend.

  • I stayed at Andreas flat for one week and it was an overall positive experience. I had some problems getting answers to my enquiries and emails from Andrea. Another thing not mentioned in the descprition is that the building itself is quite old and therefore noisy (the heating system was really noisy and you can hear the neighbours through the walls). A practical thing was that there had not been filled up with toilet paper - a practical thing that should be in order. However, the location is great if you want to live in Midtown and it is very close to the UN. The apartment is clean and well kept.

  • The apartment is very functional. A small kitchen in the corridor, equipped with a micro-wave oven (most important for a single person!), stove and a relatively large fridge. The living room is full of light and the bedroom is very quite with a spacious closet in the back. A television set with numerous TV and Radio channels makes for a very pleasant (email hidden) connection of a high speed enables you to keep your business activities going in spite of the fact that you are away from your home town. I received a list of shops, restaurants and coffees places in the neighborhood which was very helpful indeed. My stay in Andrea's apartment was really enjoyable.

Andrea and her friend Wendy, who assists her in running the apartment, were always on hand ready to assist. Just one example: Since it was relatively cold during my stay in New York, I asked for an additional portable heater which was provided in less than 15 minutes from my telephone request.

All in all, I can warmly recommend the apartment and Andrea as a welcoming and reliable host.

  • My girlfriend and I enjoyed a week in this beautiful apartment as part of a work-then-play trip. Everything is as advertised, with lovely furnishings, large closet space and needed amenities. We loved the place so much that we even looked up rents in the building for longer-term living. The experience is one we will cherish forever, and we know that Andrea's apartment has a lot to do with that.

  • Very convenient location for us as we spent the week working across the street at UNICEF/UNDP. Nice apartment with a good 'feel'.. Comfy bed, Good storage space, Kitchen space is small but well equipped. Overall, recommended.

  • This apartment is just great. Very well located, cozy environment, , lots of light and nice decoration that makes you feel just like home. I did not meet Andrea in person but one of her friends came the first day and was very nice and helpful. Great location in midtown and the place is exactly as shown in the pictures.
It is a great choice, better than any hotel and you won't regret it. It's close to grand central, Japanese restaurants and walking distance to 5th avenue.
I will definitely book this apartment in the future.

  • First introduction to airbnb was a very good one.
Andrea was quick to respond and all was as it was expected to be.
Very good sized living area, separate bedroom with lots of hanging space and hangars, small but good bathroom with lots of towels, effective but noisy air conditioner, very small, almost in the way kitchen – but we did have just enough room to make coffee, muesli and toast each morning and wash up our dishes.
    Couldn’t do much more.
Close enough to Grand Central station for most subway trains and on an avenue bus way.
    Would stay again.

  • We enjoyed the hospitality provided by Andrea - the apartment was clean, neat and centrally located. Andrea was very accommodating with our late arrival into New York which was appreciated. She also arranged for her son to visit us to make sure everything was okay. We are happy to recommend Andrea's apartment to others.

  • We went to "Splendid apt." in August 2013 for one week and enjoyed our stay very much. The apartment is very cosy and nicely furnished, as you can see on the pictures. It has a beautiful view at the Crysler Building, especially in the early morning when the building reflets the sunrise. The apartment is only a few blocks from Grand Central Station, so it is the perfect starting point for visiting Manhattan. Andrea was not in town during our stay, but she made sure, a neighbor showed us around and everything was ok. I can warmly recommend her place.

About
I am a 50-something design enthusiast and live part-time in New York so I can be near my three grown kids. When I'm not in NY, I rent out my place on airbnb. I think this site is great and I've met some very wonderful people this way. I love decorating on a shoestring, combining thrift shop finds with newer pieces. In fact, I was a finalist in Apartment Therapy's Small, Cool 2010 Contest, and againr in Small, Cool 2012. I hope you will love New York as much as I do! I welcome all and am gay-friendly.
