About This Listing
Its dIFeReNt!! What can I say - become immersed in a creative and inspiring space that will hopefully touch your soul in more than one way! Aesthetic, worldly, cosy, comfortable, alive, colorful, private, convivial, joyful, regenerative. Come play!
This room is The Finca Room (one of 5 bedrooms available in our mystical home). I called it by that name because its views (to the East) are of the awesome Coffee Finca (Finca=farm) next door. You'll be gazing directly at the main estate house and gardens - reminiscent of Tuscany with its poplar skyline and also of grand british gardens. A sense of expansiveness and serenity eminates. The room itself is located on the top floor of the house, adjacent to a full bathroom (shower designed "open" - no windows - where the open space is towards the Finca once more).
Ample!... With many small universes within the whole, each carrying it's own inspiring energy. To make but a few:
- Garden aesthetic, green, colorful, tropical, healing, culinary.
- Spiritual room symbolism, colors, chakras, energy, 5 elements, peacefulness, light & darkness, candles & incense
- Library inspiring, fiction, healing, reality, beauty, humanity, living, serenity
-Moroccan lounge travel, exotic, romanticism, music, informal connections, bohemian, evenings in good company, escape to another world
-Front porch rocking chairs, candles, garden views, sheltered, outside, glass of wine, conversations, scents of the night, read a book
-Outdoor lounge BBQ, another space, fish pond, plants, mural, bamboo wall, jasmin
-Kitchen heart of the house, social hub, good coffee grown 5 minutes away, home cooking, quality ingredients, slow food, imagination is the limit
You will have access to the whole house. The exceptions are: other bedrooms (obvious.... But there it is (;-) ) and the office (unless invited).
Interaction with Guests
You will usually be hosted at the house when I am in residence. So chances to interact are pretty high. We are likely to share breakfast or some of our meals together, maybe cook and enjoy a glass of wine together. Its up to your mood, mine too...and the magic of the flow (:-)
The neighborhood is Antigua-like (cobbled stone street) yet 1.5 miles out of town center (less than 1 mile from the edge of town). It is very quiet around here - hearing countryside like night critters, roosters, different owls sometimes. No mainroad pass within hearing distance.
I would definitely encourage you to visit some of the neighboring colonial village around Antigua. Maybe we'll take a trip there together. They are so much more low key than Antigua... One almost gets a feeling of a forgotten era of Spanish colonialism when walking around some of the old main squares with pristine churches [... well sometimes crumbling... But still...]
I offer use of a 1 mountain bike, and will offer you a ride if I happen to be driving into town. You can also walk to/from town (25mins), walk to the main road and take a chicken bus (5mins) or take a tuktuk back (a few minutes).
Other Things to Note
[there are 3 other rooms available should you find this one booked for your desired dates - check out our other listings. Also the house is available as a complete rental]
If you are on a trajectory that will take you to Lake ATITLAN, be sure to CHECK OUT my other listing EAGLE'S NEST located in San Marcos La Laguna - it will blow your HEART & MIND simultaneously ;-).....here is a quick link for it:
Its mostly common sense! Respect the space, its art and layout. Its a beautiful space where you may find lots of inspiration. I hope you make the most of it and enjoy the peacefulness beauty of the house. If you have any questions, ask Nancy the housekeeper, Jose the property manager or myself.
Attention SMOKERS: In order to respect my space and the possible desire for other guests to breath clean air, you are invited to smoke anywhere outside (rooftop terrace, entrance porch with rocking chairs or any of the garden space)
Due to work obligations on our end (which resulted in altered flights and alternative dates), we ended up booking the Finca Room at Greg's house through two different Airbnb bookings. This, in turn, resulted in two bookings for the same stay.
Since this review is for the same May 2015 trip that I previously described in my longer review, I would direct readers to this feedback.
My wife and I recently stayed at Greg's house just on the fringe of "downtown" Antigua, and had an amazing experience at the house. We had the place to ourselves the first two days of our trip, and spending time on the rooftop terrace is spectacular, with amazing views of the three volcanoes that surround the Antigua valley region.
The house was clean and quiet, and exactly as it appears online in both written and photographic descriptions.
Some past reviewers have commented that the walk from the house into Antigua is a healthy 30 minute trek, though we found this to be an over estimation. I think we only needed 10 minutes to finish the journey, and at a regular pace. That having been said, you will need to take a taxi back to the house if you are returning at night/after dark.
The house, however, is located in a safe, peaceful and beautiful neighborhood.
We met Greg and his girlfriend on the third day of our stay, and he was both warm and welcoming as a host. We ended up sharing a few glasses of wine over dinner one night, as well as coffee and fresh fruit the next morning over breakfast on the rooftop deck.
It is precisely these opportunities -- to meet other adventurers in foreign lands -- that makes the Airbnb experience particularly rewarding, and Greg is a testament to this aspect of Airbnb culture.
Our only suggestion to travelers is that you bring your own soap, which was not provided in the bathrooms. This may seem trivial (and is, as we brought our own), but is meant to serve as a tip for future travelers. That having been said, I feel like Greg would have provided soap if we had asked, which we did not.
All in all, our experience was amazing and we would gladly stay here again. In fact, we're hoping to return to Antigua again next year, and would absolutely stay in one of Greg's houses during our return visit.
Greg (and JB) were readily available to coordinate things for my arrival beforehand - it was a huge help in minimizing the stress of travel.
The house was gorgeous as advertised and very clean. The neighborhood is very pretty. The only caveat is that it is about 2km from the center of town, and at night a taxi is required to come or go. Luckily, they're inexpensive enough.
I very much enjoyed my stay at Greg's house. The finca room is upstairs and has a bathroom located outside the room which is usually just for the person staying in the room, but occassionally is shared with another guest if the house is full. The room itself is comfortable, with windows and a nice bed. The house is AMAZING and during my month stay I really felt like it became my home. I will definitely try to stay here again when visiting Antigua!
