My stay at the Country Connection in Roxbury was my first booking through airbnb. As such, I had lots of questions, sent multiple messages, took a few tries to get the booking right. Throughout the entire process, Grant was awesome! He was patient, quick to respond and very kind.
As for the cottage: AMAZING! The pictures don't even do it justice. A big sell point for me was the hot tub. It's even more perfect when you're actually sitting it in, with nothing but quiet and steam on a cold night around you.
I'm not much of a writer, but I really want to express a few things that I loved about my stay, so I'll get to the point:
- It feels like you're spending time at your friend's cabin.
- It's super clean.
- The décor is inviting and stimulating (my friend and I couldn't stop admiring the collection of books and spent most of our time when not cooking and in the hot tub reading through them).
- The kitchen was well-stocked with all the cooking utensils/pots pans we needed.
- Grant provides a great info packet: local grocery stores/markets/restaurants, turning on all the property lights, using the fireplace, using the hot tub.
Words of wisdom if you plan to book:
- Plan to arrive during the day! We got there during night fall (later than expected) and it was a bit worrisome to find our way up the driveway and into the cabin in pitch dark. *Grant answered my phone call right away when I called to get some help.
- Take note that the hot tub takes a few hours to heat up. Plan for that on your first day of arrival.
The short of it is that I would definitely stay here again. My friend and I have already talked about coming back in the spring and fall... and next winter. Simply an amazing stay!
Great house in a beautiful area of the Catskills. Very comfortable with modern touches. Particularly loved waking up and seeing the view from the master bedroom. Great stay overall!
Grant's house is a fabulous gateway from the city. It is the perfect location for hiking in the mountains around and enjoy the stunning scenery of the upper NY state. The house itself is spacious, wonderfully decorated and has all the modern amenities that makes a countryside trip very comfortable. The outdoor hot tub is a tremendous feature. Grant is great host who provided us with all the detailed information that we needed to have a wonderful time.
We had a wonderful stay. The house is stylish, chic, and comfortable. It is well appointed with feather comforters, a fireplace, hot tub, cable, and roku! We had a lot of snow and very cold temperatures while we were there and the road was quickly plowed for us and Grant checked on us to make sure we had everything we needed throughout our stay. We can't wait to return to this beautiful house in the Catskills!
The house is really wonderful - we loved the fireplace, the open kitchen and the hot tub. It's cozy and a great place to spend some quiet time in the mountains. There is one large master bedroom on the top floor and 2 smaller bedrooms below the main floor. The views are really scenic, especially from the hot tub or the master bedroom. One note on the master bedroom – it’s connected to the main floor via an open stairway (no door) so sound does travel if you don't all go to sleep at the same time.
We stayed at the house over NYE, when it was very cold and snowy/icy. Our poor rental minivan could not handle the hill to the house nor the driveway - highly recommend a 4x4 during this type of weather to avoid having to get out and push! Perhaps because of the holiday, the driveway was never cleared.
Grant was very friendly and helpful. We had a lot of trouble initially due to being sent outdated instructions (locating the house, turning on the hot tub, etc), but once Grant realized this and sent the correct instructions, everything improved immensely. The instructions are very descriptive and even include detailed pictures.
All in all, we recommend the house and Grant as a host. You’ll enjoy your stay!
Grant was an amazing host. He was extremely communicative, even before and after we arrived. The house was clean and well stocked. Grant went above and beyond, giving us ideas for things to do, and places to eat, in the area (his taste was spot on!). Grant was also patient and responsive, answering my text messages right away, whenever I had a question about the house.
My friends and I are definitely looking forward to a summer trip to the house.
I booked the cabin for an entire month, but unfortunately I had to leave after only a week, for personal reasons. The place is generally as described, with stunning foliage and sweeping views around the landscape. The hot tub was certainly a pleasant escape as well.
The cabin itself was nice - slightly dated, but enjoyable and homey. One thing that caught me off guard was the "kitchen full of spices" - the vast majority of these had expiration dates from many years ago (mostly 2006-2012). I had a hard time finding anything that hadn't been sitting there for years. The refrigerator was also left with lots of expired food that I had to clean out. When I questioned the hosts about this, they didn't seem to think this was a big deal, and even sounded offended that I had mentioned it.
But aside from this small issue, Grant and Dave were actually extremely agreeable and wonderful hosts. I could tell that they went out of their way to ensure that my stay would be an enjoyable one. Any time I needed to speak with them, they were very responsive, even sending over a neighbor friend of theirs to fix a leak that came up after a storm.
Overall, Country Connection is a great place to stay if you are looking to escape to a secluded, rustic cabin in the woods. It's about a 20 minute drive to the nearest grocery store, just to give some perspective. The biggest pluses are the scenery, hot tub, and wood burning stove. I would definitely want to stay here again, especially during the fall foliage season.
