The space

Our place is a large, stylish sunlit apartment in a charming 20's building furnished in a contemporary minimal style. It is on the 1st floor of the building, with nice light in the living room and throughout and has a lovely view of Grand Lake Theater. A stroll down the beautiful Cleveland Cascade stairs (an old waterfall) and around Lake Merritt with a cup of coffee in the morning is a great way to start your day (we have a coffee maker). We also have a record player with a decent selection of old records to set the tone for your stay.

Hardwood floors run throughout the apartment which give it an old cottage like feel. We have a large living room, kitchen, dining room, bedroom, sunny breakfast nook, and design studio all with big windows that allow the light to fill the house during the day.

It is in a superb location with a large queen size bed, big dining table, comfortable couch and large TV with cable and HBO. We will provide you with the WiFi password to use internet. We also provide a blow up bed (sheets and blankets) for additional guests.

The building is a 12 unit building of studios and one bedrooms. Most neighbors keep to themselves. It is a quiet building.

The neighborhood is quiet and safe with some families and kids. The Lake Merritt area has a newly renovated playground for children and picnic areas all along the gorgeous 3-mile lake. You can get take out in one of the many restaurants nearby, bring it to the park, and have a fantastic picnic overlooking the beautiful lake and Oakland downtown skyline. 1/2 block in the other direction is the bustling LakeShore Blvd. and Grand Ave. corridors with everything you need in a neighborhood like bars, restaurants, cafes, shops, and much much more.

Our favorite night out is eating at the amazing Boot and Shoe Service restaurant and then catching a movie at the classic Grand Lake Theater. Or you salsa dance the night away at Cana, one of the coolest Cuban spots in town (only 3 minutes from our front door).

Also very close to many restaurants, coffee shops, nightlife and even Music Clubs like The New Parish, Yoshi's Jazz Club, Fox and Paramount Theaters.

The apartment is in the middle of Oakland making almost any neighborhood easily accessible by bus or foot. We are near the NL bus line to go to San Francisco and only about a 15 minute walk to BART. We are 1 block from the 580 freeway that will get you to San Francisco in 15 minutes.

There is an awesome farmer's market on Saturday morning 2 blocks away. Lots of little stores, cafes, restaurants, bars, lounges, and clubs are within easy walking distance. Lakeshore Blvd. has been dubbed the "place to be" in Oakland.

My wife and I live here, but are away most weekends so it is available Friday and Saturday nights and can almost always be available Sunday night if you are staying a long weekend.

It is a great mix of old world charm, modern amenities, and an amazing neighborhood. You never have to leave the neighborhood to have a great time but are close to all the desirable East Bay attractions.

There is a lot of street parking in our neighborhood if you need to bring your car.

There is a fully functioning kitchen with blender, slow cooker, rice cooker, regular stove and oven, and large fridge so if you want to cook at home, you can, although we highly recommend you at least sample some of the incredible restaurants Oakland (and our neighborhood) have to offer.

Perfect for temporary study, business or vacation in the area, or to test the neighborhood before a move here.

We love hosting visitors and will always leave a welcome basket with goodies, cucumber water in the fridge and a list of places to eat and things to do for you!
