We joined Airbnb in January 2010 because they offered a way to have travelers have a "homestay" experience. We appreciate travelers who want the experience of staying with "locals" as we have lived in Santa Barbara since 1980. We offer recommendations to activities and restaurants in the area. My husband has a great ability to give gps directions if you don't have your own. Traveling is an art; therefore, we treasure the experiences our guests share with us.
We live in a quiet, designated bungalow area 1 mile from the beach and 6 blocks away from downtown SB. We also are a mere 4 blocks from the Santa Barbara County Bowl. We have neighborhood block parties so our neighborhood is safe and welcoming. We can walk from our home to the beach, and at the beach and back in a little around 1.5 hours.Basically, if you like to walk, you can walk to all of the places you might want to visit in Santa Barbara; the Santa Barbara Art Museum, the Santa Barbara Natural History Museum (a slightly longer walk), the Mission , and, of course, everything which "downtown" offers.
Staying in our neighborhood offers the reality of the joy of living in Santa Barbara. Quiet. The house was built in the 1920's, ,has hardwood floors and a fireplace. The back yard resembles a Balinese resort with outdoor dining and a barbque. We are offering a cozy room with private access, a private bathroom with a shower and bath and direct access to the back yard which offers a comfortable outside space. The room which is 10' x 12' (120 square feet), has a queen sized bed, dresser, closet, wi-fi, cable/dvd, and access to other rooms. You are offered all the amenities you might need, including, shampoo, hair conditioner, washing gel, lotion, towels and bathrobes
My office is across the hall from your room. The neighborhood is safe and quiet. Parking is on the street or you can park your car up our driveway if it makes you feel safer. You also have access to a laundry room.
Coffee (Nespresso machine)/tea available at all times. Breakfast is offered without extra cost. We offer, as an example, fresh local fruit, fresh farm eggs (prepared as you wish) , local bread, greek yoghurt, oatmeal. I love to cook, so lunch and dinner are available at extra cost. You have access to the kitchen and all other rooms in our home. You also have access to our libraries.
We have had guests stay in our home when we were not there.
We have arranged to have a key left for the guest. If you would like to stay with us, you are part of our home and family. We usually enjoy having breakfast with our guests, although, you can breakfast in your own privacy, either outside, in your room or at the dining table. We've lived in Santa Barbara for over 30 years. We have much local information. Please contact for
There is a tram which runs up and down State Street ( the main street in town) for $.50 one way. We are 6 blocks away from the tram. The tram also runs from the train station conveniently six blocks from our home. There is a bus within two blocks which connects to other busses which can take you to further destinations. If you are a UCSB student, there is a free express shuttle out to UCSB.
If you stay for only one night, we have imposed a cleaning fee of $20. If you stay for longer than one night, the fee does not apply.
Guests have access to the living room, dining room, kitchen, media room, my office, laundry room and back yard. Basically they have access to the whole house except our private living area.
Because we believed, when we first joined Airbnb, that it was a homestay, we like to have some contact with our visitors. We like to give our guests recommendations. However, we also respect our guests' privacy.
We had a wonderful stay at Evelyn and Lawrence's. They have a beautiful and comfortable home. In particular, we enjoyed the lovely backyard garden, which was right outside the door to our room. Their home is in a great location. We love to walk and were able to take in everything along State Street, even down to the Harbor. We had only a short time to visit with them when we arrived as they were leaving for a trip (which they let us know about before we booked). They were very friendly and left us detailed instructions, so we had a carefree and comfortable stay.
Evelyn and Lawrence have a lovely, peaceful home and I have enjoyed two stays there. Evelyn also gave wonderful recommendations for restaurants while we were visiting and both she and Lawrence are terrific hosts.
I had a business event in Santa Barbara that was potentially very stressful. But as soon as I arrived at Evelyn and Lawrence's home it was like diving into a pool of calm. I instantly relaxed. Their garden is so beautiful and peaceful and the room itself is cozy with a delicious bed with magnificent bedding. I had an incredible night sleep and woke up raring to go. I really want to come back (not on business) and bring my guy.
Evelyn and Lawrence are both warm and generous people - they offered great advice on local restaurants, hikes, and activities and made sure that we had what we needed throughout the weekend. We had a relaxing stay and woke up in the morning to a phenomenal breakfast. The room itself is comfortable and quiet, with its own entrance and access to the outdoor patio. Would recommend this stay to anyone coming through Santa Barbara!
I stayed one night in this wonderful, clean and warming house of Evelyn and Lawrene. Both were very smart, helpful and lovely.
I will come back, cause i feel like visiting friends!
Thanks for all!
Evelyn and Lawrence are very gracious hosts with superb recommendations. Their lovely location is quiet but close to eating and activities. I look forward to staying again next time going to Santa Barbara.
Evelyn and Lawrence have a lovely home in a great central location. Easy walking to downtown, parks, restaurants, and the beach. They were extremely flexible with our last-minute booking.
Evelyn and Lawrence are gracious hosts, eager to share their home and offer local knowledge. We enjoyed interacting with them.
The private entrance opens onto a peaceful patio with a soothing fountain.
My friend and I decided to go on an impromptu adventure to Santa Barbara, and we had the most amazing experience! Evelyn and Lawrence were the most gracious hosts. Their love and love of life are pervasive throughout their home, which is equal parts relaxing and energizing. We slept so well in the comfortable bed with the soothing sounds of the fountain in the garden, and we awoke to delicious espresso, croissants, and eggs. We enjoyed all of Evelyn and Lawrence’s recommendations for places and restaurants to scope out while we were visiting Santa Barbara. They are very close to all of the great shops and restaurants around State St. and just a quick drive down to the Funk Zone and ocean. This was our first experience with airbnb... what a perfect introduction to how fun it can be to explore a new city and stay with and get to know a great local host family. I would highly recommend Evelyn and Lawrence's home for other travel enthusiasts! I know that I really hope to return and spend more time with Evelyn, Lawrence, and Santa Barbara!!
Evelyn and Lawrence have a wonderful and warm home. Extremely well located, close to all the neat little neighborhoods and sights in Santa Barbara. They're very gracious and allowed us access to their entire home, even while they were away for the holiday's. My fiancé and I enjoyed cooking in their amazing kitchen and drinking fresh espresso from their nespresso machine. The bedding was so comfortable and inviting. We enjoyed strolling in their beautiful gardens. I absolutely recommend anyone to stay here and hope to have the privilege of staying with Evelyn and Lawrence again!
Evelyn and Lawrence were wonderful hosts. Evelyn gave us tips on restaurants and things to see in Santa Barbara, and Lawrence had our breakfast laid out and made a wonderful latte. And yes, the bed is so comfortable!
The neighborhood is quiet. Having our own entrance was nice as was access to the house and patio. We were able to leave our luggage long past checkout time which helped us enjoy our whole day before catching our train.
