Super Private Seaside Cottage

Cabin - Entire home/apt · Shore Rd, Murray River, Prince Edward Island C0A 1W0, Canada

Our charming, spotless seaside cottage melts away stress. It sits on a breathtaking 800 feet of private sandy beach with warm swimmable water. Many interesting Eastern PEI day trips are nearby if you can pull yourself away from the amazing views.

The Space

Beautiful & simple cottage on 800 feet of private sandy beach. This cottage is clean, charming and perfect for a family that wants to connect with nature and one another. One large open concept room with large dining table and full kitchen, separate bath and large screened in porch and living area with two new sleeping futons with fresh linens as well as a real bed in the loft area that sleeps two more. This cottage is all new construction, with brand new appliances, pine floors, and large wrap around deck with amazing ocean views.

Wooden stairs descend to the warm, safe waters of the Northumberland Straight where swimming, canoeing (canoe and paddles and life jackets are provided), clam digging, muscle hunting and beach lounging await. There are only a couple of other homes nearby and they are seldom used. Often the beach as far as the eye can see is all ours for days at a time. This cottage is NOT in a subdivision with many other cottages nearby. This is one of very few large wooded, oceanfront country lots, never farmed or subdivided. It is on an unusually large, private and scenic 10 acre oceanfront lot with 800 feet of beachfront.

The cottage interior is lovely, all new and simply decorated in a clean, cheery style. Two new futons in the main room fold out and sleep four. The sleeping loft above sleeps two in a double bed, to get to the loft you have to go up a ladder, so older people or those with little children might prefer to sleep on one of the two comfortable downstairs futons. Seating for five on the screened in porch. Outdoor shower with warm water. Huge panoramic ocean views. Hear the waves crash as you sleep.

No phone, no internet, no TV and you won’t miss it. Berry picking, clam digging, reading, story telling, canoeing, muscle hunting picnicking, bird and rabbit watching will fill your time. The cottage does have good cell phone reception.

Many Eastern PEI daytrips are also close at hand--Roma Three Rivers Historic Village, two golf courses, spa and beachfront horseback tours, Elmira Railway Provincial Museum, the famous white Singing Sand of Basin Head Beach (always voted PEI's best beach), and the Fisheries Museum are just some of the easy daytrips.

Ice cream and candy store, fish and chips shack and tourist information center (with free internet access) are only a five minute drive away. Also just down the road ( 2-3 minute drive) is a provincial park with laundry, playground, and small store. The Rossignol Winery and Vineyard is about a five minute drive away and the town of Montague and Murray Harbour are both about a 15 minute drive away. Here you'll find charming restaurants with homemade PEI food, community concerts and celeighs, harbor cruises, and historic sites. The bustling town of Charlottetown is 45 minutes away. Here you’ll find theatre, fine dining, big box shopping, farmers markets, and boutiques.

Guest Access

Guests have access to a canoe, paddles, two adult life jackets and two older children's life jackets. There are many outdoor toys, books and games that you are free to use as well.

The Neighborhood

Eastern PEI is our favorite part of the Island. We love the authenticity of the people, the activities, cultural venues and restaurants. There's a lot to do with a 20 minute drive of our cottage and Cavendish and Charlottetown are only about 45 minutes away. But, Eastern PEI has a distinctly more authentic feel than other parts of the Island in the summer. Brehaut's Restaurant is a local favourite--sit on the Adirondack chairs on the big front porch while waiting for a table and you'll find yourself chatting with many friendly local people. This restaurant serves homemade pies, chowder and great milkshakes and burgers.

Just a five minute drive from the cottage is an old-school candy and ice cream store located at the Wood Island's Visitor Centre, and just a few miles in the other direction is the Rossignol Winery with wine tastings, local art and award winning local wines for purchase. Two lighthouses are also nearby as well as one of PEI's most authentic ceilidh venues, the Murray Harbour Community Centre with family friendly evening concerts featuring local dancers and musicians of all ages.

Also nearby is the historic village of Roma Three Rivers, a Acadian cultural site with kid's camps and activities, a daily heritage lunch, Pioneer festival, garden tours, heritage trail hikes and interpretive tours of their beautiful and well preserved site.

Brudenell River Provincial Park is also a popular day trip from the cottage. Guided horseback trail rides are very popular here as are the daily interpretive programs, the on-site spa and the Brudenell River and PEI Dundarave Golf Courses.

  • Our family had a wonderful stay at the cottage. The colors, sounds, scents and feeling of the landscape are unique.
The cottage is clean, comfortable, easy to live in and thoughtfully laid out. We loved every minute of our time there. The McIntyres were helpful and lovely to speak with at points along the way. Thank you so much, John and family!

  • The cottage was absolutely lovely. The view of the water was spectacular, and the screen porch was a wonderful place to eat and enjoy the evening away from the bugs.
The cottage was clean and modern, with an interesting assortment of books. John was quick to answer any questions and provide any help we needed via email.
There are neighbours on one side of the cottage, but they're well hidden by a thick area of trees and not visible from the cottage or the front porch, only farther down as you get closer to the water's edge.
The squirrels and the rabbits made for some excellent early morning entertainment.
We will most definitely be back!

  • What a lovely location, overlooking the Northumberland Strait. The cottage was perfect in size; the open concept design is spacious and it feels like I had plenty of room.
I absolutely loved the outdoor shower!
The screened-in porch and the deck were my favourite places to read, have my meals, and keep an eye on the eagles, seals and other nature shows, courtesy of the waves and sea birds.
Walking the beach at low tide rates high as well, on the peace and serenity scale.
This is a perfect place to melt away stress and renew your energies.

  • Perfect place to get away from everything! The cottage was exactly as described. It was clean, comfortable and decently stocked with cooking supplies. John and Jordan were very courteous and professional throughout the entire process. If you are visiting early September like we were, bring some warm clothes for the evening, as there is only rudimentary heating.

    5 out of 5!!

  • This cottage is not far from the Wood Island Ferry which was a bonus when traveling with a 6 year-old eager to get there. The cottage is set high above the water with stairs descending to a beautiful red sand beach when the tide was low. My daughter had fun "rescuing" small jellyfish and putting them back into the water with a shovel. We could walk a long way when the tide was out. Canoeing was also wonderful when the tide was higher and the wind died down.

The cottage itself is functional, modern, clean and sleeps many. We were a mom, child and a grandfather and we had more than enough room and then some. The kitchen was well equipped and the bathroom was fantastic - the use of the washing machine came in handy when it came to ice-cream spills for both the young and old. The place is kid friendly so families won't go wrong in choosing it. We really enjoyed our stay.

This side of the island was fantastic in that it was quiet and easy to navigate. We never felt crowded or surrounded by tourists. We wish we could have stayed longer. Thanks to John and Jordan.

  • We had a great time at this beautiful cottage. Great location, great privacy, nice beach, just what we needed.
    Great place for children too.

  • We are a family of 4 who took our kids to PEI for the long weekend in August. This was their first visit to PEI. They loved the cottage (especially the loft which they took ownership of immediately) the beach was wonderful and the peace and quiet was even better. The kids loved the rabbits that were all around the property. I tried the outdoor shower which was an experience ! watch out for the bugs !
I would highly recommend this spot for an enjoyable, peaceful vacation.
This cottage is literally 10 minutes from the Wood Island Ferry. I recommend taking the ferry across for an experience and the bridge back which is cheaper than the ferry.

  • This place is amazing. PEI is a wonderful place to take a family for a vacation and the cottage was truly perfect for us (3 kids). The cottage sits on the most private and wonderful spot on the island. We were there for 5 days and didn't see another person the whole time. The beach was lovely and we spent our days alternating between the large flat lawn, wonderful deck and the beach below.

I would highly recommend this cottage to anyone. Thanks being such a great host John!

  • Stop looking right now. This is the place you have been searching for! A completely gorgeous cottage, private beachfront, huge lawn, with all of the amenities you could ever need - AND a warm outdoor shower. Peaceful seclusion at its absolute best. There aren't enough nice things I can say about this cottage. The outdoor shower was so perfect. Bunnies play in the yard daily, seals frolic in the ocean out front, and birds are everywhere - you truly won't miss your TV or internet. The cottage is bright and airy and the wood detailing inside is breathtaking. The kitchen is stocked with everything you'll need, and the porch is stocked with everything you'll need for outdoors. Dig for your own clams by day and cook them on the bbq in the evening. What could be better! Close to the gorgeous Rossignol winery (complete with Horse and Mule!) and enough quaint little towns that you will experience the best that PEI has to offer. We will be back!
