About this listing
Our charming, spotless seaside cottage melts away stress. It sits on a breathtaking 800 feet of private sandy beach with warm swimmable water. Many interesting Eastern PEI day trips are nearby if you can pull yourself away from the amazing views.
Beautiful & simple cottage on 800 feet of private sandy beach. This cottage is clean, charming and perfect for a family that wants to connect with nature and one another. One large open concept room with large dining table and full kitchen, separate bath and large screened in porch and living area with two new sleeping futons with fresh linens as well as a real bed in the loft area that sleeps two more. This cottage is all new construction, with brand new appliances, pine floors, and large wrap around deck with amazing ocean views.
Wooden stairs descend to the warm, safe waters of the Northumberland Straight where swimming, canoeing (canoe and paddles and life jackets are provided), clam digging, muscle hunting and beach lounging await. There are only a couple of other homes nearby and they are seldom used. Often the beach as far as the eye can see is all ours for days at a time. This cottage is NOT in a subdivision with many other cottages nearby. This is one of very few large wooded, oceanfront country lots, never farmed or subdivided. It is on an unusually large, private and scenic 10 acre oceanfront lot with 800 feet of beachfront.
The cottage interior is lovely, all new and simply decorated in a clean, cheery style. Two new futons in the main room fold out and sleep four. The sleeping loft above sleeps two in a double bed, to get to the loft you have to go up a ladder, so older people or those with little children might prefer to sleep on one of the two comfortable downstairs futons. Seating for five on the screened in porch. Outdoor shower with warm water. Huge panoramic ocean views. Hear the waves crash as you sleep.
No phone, no internet, no TV and you won’t miss it. Berry picking, clam digging, reading, story telling, canoeing, muscle hunting picnicking, bird and rabbit watching will fill your time. The cottage does have good cell phone reception.
Many Eastern PEI daytrips are also close at hand--Roma Three Rivers Historic Village, two golf courses, spa and beachfront horseback tours, Elmira Railway Provincial Museum, the famous white Singing Sand of Basin Head Beach (always voted PEI's best beach), and the Fisheries Museum are just some of the easy daytrips.
Ice cream and candy store, fish and chips shack and tourist information center (with free internet access) are only a five minute drive away. Also just down the road ( 2-3 minute drive) is a provincial park with laundry, playground, and small store. The Rossignol Winery and Vineyard is about a five minute drive away and the town of Montague and Murray Harbour are both about a 15 minute drive away. Here you'll find charming restaurants with homemade PEI food, community concerts and celeighs, harbor cruises, and historic sites. The bustling town of Charlottetown is 45 minutes away. Here you’ll find theatre, fine dining, big box shopping, farmers markets, and boutiques.
Guests have access to a canoe, paddles, two adult life jackets and two older children's life jackets. There are many outdoor toys, books and games that you are free to use as well.
Eastern PEI is our favorite part of the Island. We love the authenticity of the people, the activities, cultural venues and restaurants. There's a lot to do with a 20 minute drive of our cottage and Cavendish and Charlottetown are only about 45 minutes away. But, Eastern PEI has a distinctly more authentic feel than other parts of the Island in the summer. Brehaut's Restaurant is a local favourite--sit on the Adirondack chairs on the big front porch while waiting for a table and you'll find yourself chatting with many friendly local people. This restaurant serves homemade pies, chowder and great milkshakes and burgers.
Just a five minute drive from the cottage is an old-school candy and ice cream store located at the Wood Island's Visitor Centre, and just a few miles in the other direction is the Rossignol Winery with wine tastings, local art and award winning local wines for purchase. Two lighthouses are also nearby as well as one of PEI's most authentic ceilidh venues, the Murray Harbour Community Centre with family friendly evening concerts featuring local dancers and musicians of all ages.
Also nearby is the historic village of Roma Three Rivers, a Acadian cultural site with kid's camps and activities, a daily heritage lunch, Pioneer festival, garden tours, heritage trail hikes and interpretive tours of their beautiful and well preserved site.
Brudenell River Provincial Park is also a popular day trip from the cottage. Guided horseback trail rides are very popular here as are the daily interpretive programs, the on-site spa and the Brudenell River and PEI Dundarave Golf Courses.
Two new futons sleep four on the ground floor and a real bed in the loft sleeps two more.
Jordan was a great host. The cottage was clean, inviting and located in a beautiful, quiet spot. Had all the necessary amenities including a washing machine and a canoe which was an added bonus.
We had a great time at this charming retreat last week. Communication with owners was excellent and no issues with logistics or with the property itself. The property itself is gorgeous and provides a great escape for anyone wanting to enjoy the ocean when the tide is out, beachcombing, etc.
The house was well stocked with basic sundries and books/ activities for children which was greatly appreciated. Would definitely stay here again.
We arrived at the cottage to find it in immaculate condition. The hosts were kind enough to leave us a bottle of local wine and the accommodations were in clean and orderly condition with all of the essentials available to us.
The only issue we had was that the stretch of private beach in front of the cottage was not as advertised. The shore was extremely rocky and there was no stretch of sand as described on the site and as shown in the pictures. At no time during our stay was the tide low enough to enjoy the beach. Our kids could not walk the beach due to the rocks.
We also had a big problem with mosquitoes which prevented us from enjoying the lovely porch and other outdoor areas.
Very glad to hear that this guest enjoyed the cottage and the bottle of local wine, had everything they needed and found everything in immaculate condition. I do feel the need to respond to the low ratings that we received from this guest and the negative feedback regarding the tides and the mosquitos. In five years of being a guest and host with Airbnb, this is an outlier-- the first negative review we have ever received. We suspect it had more to do with this guest's desire to modify her travel dates very close to her time of travel and our ability to only partially accommodate this request. I'd like to reassure future guests that the tides do function property on our beach. They come in and out everyday--being controlled by the moon, tides are quite reliable. Low tide is great for long beach walks, high tide is perfect for swimming, canoeing and snorkeling for clams. There are always some mosquitos in the country--bug spray and citronella candles are available for guest use and neither of these appeared to have been used by this guest. We were at the cottage right after this guest, and spend the day on the beach and played Frisbee on the lawn and didn't find them bad at all. Most of our guests are very fair, this guest was less than fair in our opinion. Her ratings are based on factors that are well beyond a host's control and are perhaps not entirely forthright.
We had a fantastic week staying at this sweet and cute cottage! The cottage was immaculate when we arrived with a lovely local bottle of wine for us. Our family of four had no issue sleeping and hanging out in the cottage. Well equipped. Photos are 100% accurate.
If you are looking for privacy and a place to really see and inhale PEI's essence, this is it. The views and the people in the surrounding area are nothing but inviting. We can't wait to come back.
The seaside cottage was a private, cozy retreat by the ocean. The pictures were an accurate description.
One of a kind! Loft-type cottage with remote location and great view on North Thumberland straight. During our stay we had a question and John replied right away. The area is really quiet and we appreciated every minute we spent on the private beach.
