THIS view, this private, this safe, this clean, this close to Ubud center without the congestion and pollution...THIS is something you don't find everyday here! Maid service included 3 days between Monday-Friday. Your maid is available for small additional fee on other days of the week also, and you can hire her to teach you to cook Indonesian or just prepare a delicious local meal for you. You can have her run errands, drop laundry and shop the market for you so you can enjoy more of your time here. You must give her shopping money in advance and she will bring receipt and change.
You will have the entire studio to dance, do yoga, martial arts, meditate or just watch the jungle shift in the breeze. This is THE most amazing place to be 'stuck' in on a rainy day. It is open, breezy, not closed in without windows and moldy like some other places. You can park right in front and there is no other doors for people to walk past to get to their place. This is all yours.
Interaction with Guests
The landlords available if I am off property for emergencies, the maid is available for all your local questions and answers. I will be available by phone if on island, by email if off island. I go out of my way to make sure guests arrive safely, timely and happily settle in. I have a list of 3 beloved and trusted taxi drivers that can pick you up from airport or give you island tours. I have another beloved and trusted motor bike guy who can deliver motorbike or push pedal bike to you. If you need help, it is available.
What do I love about my village? Absolutely EVERYthing. The energy, the giant smiles of the locals. The sounds, the safety of a dead end road with everyone knowing everyone. The restaurants, pools, hiking, convenience, the views from EVERYwhere.
Motorbike or car rental or taxi, which ever you prefer. I have trusted people for taxi and motorbike rentals if you would like names and numbers. You can walk to the bridges into town in 15 minutes if you like.
•Intensely gorgeous scenery surrounds this amazing home perched high on top of the famous Campuhan Ridge Trail.
•Our lovely safe village named Bangkiang Sidem, is a stones throw from Karsa Kafe, famous on the trail for good cheap food and for the new luxurious spa just built this year.
•We are only 7 minutes from the Big Bintang (the biggest grocery store in Ubud.) Away from the traffic, pollution and with two ways to get into Ubud, if there is traffic one way, reroute yourself the other way to escape it all without breathing the fumes.
•Ideal location for mountain trips, rafting, seeing the elephants, cycling and hiking right outside your door step.
•You can WALK the Campuhan trail right into town, about 15 minutes of breathtaking views and scenery the entire way, winding down the ridge and next to the river and the most important temple in Ubud (the reason ubud got its name) to the bridges.
•The short 7 minute drive to Bintang Grocery will take you back to the yesteryears of the real Balinese villages, passing temples and dipping through the cool jungle air and over a river before popping up to tiered rice fields that stretch on forever as you turn onto your road. You are far removed from the traffic, smog and hectic craziness of Ubud without being far away. Magically you are in the heart of Ubud on a ridge with 360 degree views of tiered rice fields, jungles, palm trees and every mountain in Bali while being surrounded by the sound of flowing water.
Other Things to Note
Additional Maid service is available upon request. Breakfast or lunch is available for an additional 50,000RP (about $5usd) per person per day upon request. Example: Tea or Coffee, Fruits, Eggs or Omlette or Balinese Pancakes. There is a restaurant about a minute walk for anytime during the day until sunset with prices being equivalent of $2-3usd, prepared by local Balinese women fresh for your order. Delivery is available for tiny fee. A fully functional kitchen is available for your use if you prefer. Most restaurants in Ubud deliver to your new home.
No Harsh Rules. If you use the nearby pools, please show the upmost respect for their property so that we can continue to have access to the swimming. I expect respectful people who believe in kharma and who love amazing hidden secret spots, stellar sunsets, nature and a beautiful home to rent this. I would like you to treat this as if it were yours. No party animal groups, it just isn't respectful to my neighbors and the Balinese locals. Small gatherings of good people and dear friends that remain under control, with class and good taste are always welcome. If you want to take home experiences, feelings and memories of a lifetime, this is YOUR place. Book NOW.
Well, we're not entirely sure how to approach this review.
We did leave disappointed; but rather than dwell on that we want to just point out the aspects of the property that didn't suit us considering that we stayed for a month.
On the one hand it is quite a distance from the main roads of Ubud and is close to the jungle and village life. Yet on the other it also means that accessing the town requires either: walking the Campuhan Trail and you are left pretty hot and sweaty due to the humidity; or you arrange a driver (about AUD8 each way in to the town); or you arrange a motorbike (check insurance issues about that one). We have also stayed in the Ubud centre and most of the guest houses are recessed from the road which blocks out any urban sound.
However, the property is close to Karsa Cafe and Spa which is an awesome place to go.
This was probably the most unfortunate aspect of the stay. Honestly, the kitchen and nearly all surfaces were quite dirty and we had to wipe everything down a number of times to feel comfortable with it. The facilities are basic so there are limited options as to how you can cook for yourself.
The netting around the room is filthy. It would be great if it could seal at the wall ends to stop the bugs - of which there are many! Sometimes hard to sleep when distracted by bugs.
There is no general table or bench to use to keep everyday items; nor is there anywhere to store clothes, etc.
The lack of Wifi was a particular pain. But Stephanie did arrange a mobile card with data for us. A nice gesture but be warned the mobile reception up there is pretty patchy; and Karsa Cafe is worse!
The ad mentions maid service. I never met her and I am sure she is a wonderful person, but each time she came (once a week) the only tangible sign of her presence was that our bed had been made. What would have been great is if the floors could be mopped and the bathroom wiped down. Although, even when we tried to clean it didn't make much difference.
Due to the open nature of the place dead bugs are all over the floor each day and surfaces get dusty and dirty quickly.
It is very basic, and quite a sad place to be.
There is no hot water and the facilities are very simple. It was not a nice place to spend any time which was especially unfortunate after walking 40 minutes in the heat!
There is no place to store anything (except on top of the cistern) and the room almost floods each time you use the shower.
We didn't feel that the space was value for money. It does not suit long-term guests in its current state. The space does have potential.
Hey Paul, I felt a little reserved about renting to you after you asked about a possible cancel of the reservation because the distance to your classes. You started off unhappy because you didn't look at the map to see a road doesn't cut through the river directly to you class. I was sad you started of disappointed before you even got here.
The map is clearly marked, and you said you didn't check it, so there is nothing I can really improve about that on my part, just check more in the future to see if the location is a right fit for you before you book, yeah? :) Be best for all involved.
I offered motorbike rental and pushbike rental and several taxi guys ready to whisk you away anywhere you would like to go on island, so the choice that you decided to walk doesn't really affect the apartments listing, does it?
I cleaned the apartment myself the day before you arrived, and someone stayed there, so I cleaned it again myself the morning you arrived, so saying the kitchen and surfaces were dirty is quite perplexing to me because I'm a clean freak and recleaned EVERYthing I had cleaned the day before.
I had run to town to buy you new bath towels, kitchen towels, snacks, water, sponges, shampoo, conditioner, soaps, dish soap, bug spray, etc, yet I had time to make sure everything was clean, including the sink, stove, fridge, glass on cabinets, counter, etc---there was NO time for even dust to settle before you arrived! Not sure about this statement or that there was anything I could do to make you happier.
It is a budget studio, with a one burner stove, so there is only one pot and one pan---one will fit at a time on the burner, and usually one person or two rents the studio, so it's quite adequate and doesn't need a 10-pc set for family dining. There are 4 place settings of dishes in case you have company. What more do you need?
The bottom few inches of the white curtains (netting) are a bit dirty from curtains swaying in the breeze 24 hours a day, but are by no means filthy, I will try to get them washed, they are delicate and can only be sent to cleaners so many times before its a $250 replacement for them. Thanks for pointing that out though.
The time of the year you were here we have locusts like bugs that swarm into the light, so it's not always the case, they are maddening for everyone everywhere, trust me!! But its just a timing issue, not year round.
There is an oversized bench in the studio….about 7 feet long….there is no way you missed it! lol. And usually people just pull out the bottom bed half way and use it as a couch, leaning against the other bed for lounging and relaxing. In fact, when its super super hot outside, I find myself going down there to sit on my computer and work because it is so naturally cool down there.
You are right about it needing another table, aside from the kitchen one--I'm on the lookout for one, along with a cabinet of some sort for clothes, I usually don't have people rent it for a month, it's really meant for a few days or a week, for budget minded people who desire a nice clean, safe, private, nature area with all the basic amenities. :)
You should have used the expensive unlimited wifi card I gave you--reception is great! It was probably the brand you had on your phone, it is tricky on this ridge, and one company will work in one house, while it won't work next door or across the street. But the one I had given you for unlimited internet works perfect here in this house! :)
I have spoken to the maid, who said she made both your beds, took your laundry, sheets and towels to cleaners, did your dishes, wiped the bathroom down, swept and mopped. Maybe you guys kept it so clean you couldn't tell? :) We were in constant communication by email while you were there, I wish you would have mentioned it so I could have checked it while you were here.
Bathroom--sorry I don't have any art up or decorations besides a mirror, yes it's basic and the one corner of the bathroom holds water from the floor being uneven if you decide to spray water on that side of the big bathroom--that is what the blue handle squeegee is for. What cistern are you talking about--I don't have a cistern in the bathroom? There is nothing else in the bathroom besides a mirror, shower, toilet, squeegee, window, shampoo, conditioner, soap, toilet scrubber and few 5-gallon plastic water bottles for refill. Rather confused, no cistern here!
It is only 15 minute walk to the bridge, you should have caught a $1 taxi to where you were going so you wouldn't exert yourself. Of course, you could also rent motorbike, push bike, arrange for taxi, etc. I understand you had a class you were taking--maybe you could have arranged one of the taxi guys here on the road to take you in at same time everyday for good price to make your stay happier? (on the bright side I guess you can be proud of yourself for all that exercise--even I don't walk that much and I live here!) Again, nothing I can really do to make your stay happier, and your private feedback that I provide an on-call taxi service for guests is out of the question, only high end hotels can afford to do such a thing!! We are only 7 minutes from the grocery store, most people rent motorbikes or make a deal with a taxi guy, if I had an on-call taxi service, it would cost more than you paid for rent! Not do-able.
I have stayed in many home stays, hostels, rentals throughout Asia. In fact, I was in Thailand for the last week of your stay at my house….and when I got back home and checked on the studio where you stayed, I had to wonder aloud, "Whyyyy couldn't I find such a nice, big, clean and private place to stay like this anywhere??"
I really am a clean freak, so I make sure it's more western style standard clean than Asian style. It is a huge space, private and stunning view, I'm glad you left some positive references in my private feedback. :) Cheers to you and hope you had fun learning Bahasa Indonesian…I'm taking a class next week from somewhere different. :)
We stayed here for a month, mid October-November. The only thing that is correct in the description here on Aribnb is that it is spacious and the scenery is just lovely. The way over Campuhan Ridge is wonderful, don´t miss it!
Otherwise we felt a bit ripped off, there was no Wi/Fi at any time during the whole month, no deal with any hotel (about using pool), not a fully equipped kitchen, no shampoo/ bath products, it wasn’t clean when we come, nor cleaned properly during our stay. We had to buy a lot of stuff to make our stay here decent (internet to phone card/a lot of pool fee/cleaning equipment/bedspread/tools to kitchen/etc, etc…) It is very overpriced, considering the condition of the place. The toilet looks horrible and the water stopped working for 24 hours+ at several occasions (it was the end of dry season), which meant no shower or flush function.
We later moved to a wonderful little house for a lover price, which held all of its promises of cleanliness, facilities, equipment, etc.
Hey guys, wow…I was upstairs the entire month, available to talk to you the entire time. You could have let me know any issues you were having in person, or when Ayu the maid came to clean, you could have let her know. If you missed me at home, you could have slipped a note under my door or messaged me through here on airbnb. I changed the lightbulb you said you couldn't reach (even though you are taller than me!) I gave you a full wifi card when you arrived, unused, purchased 5 gallons of water and cold bottles of water in fridge, new water dispensers and full tanks of gas for you and you had fresh coconuts and flowers on several occassions. The ENTIRE kitchen was new, Fridge, Stove--you were first to use it, and Sink, so I'm not sure what wasn't clean, the maid cleaned the day you arrived and I checked it myself. There are two pools that you can use on the road just a few minutes walk away, for equivalent of $1.60usd, but sometimes they even waive that if you order food or drinks. I am really confused on why you didn't come upstairs to ask/mention anything even one time during your stay. No cleaning 'equipment' was needed, even though Ayu's (the maids) mother went into the hospital several times during your stay, when she was available, she came to clean for you. Each time you left quite a mess with trash, food, clothes and bottles strewn about and she would call me down to witness what she had to clean because we aren't used to college dormitory style messes, but she cleaned it each time and I never mentioned it to you. I'm wondering what was missing in form of kitchen: pot, pan, plates, bowls, utensils, spatulas, cups, glasses, pitcher, saucers, forks, spoons, can opener, wine opener, chopsticks, etc were there in the kitchen. The toilet seat and sprayer are brand new, never used. I did come to you to apologize about the water, it was a long dry season (just google it) and I came to explain that the Entire Village was out of water on and off at half day intervals governed by the village. At this time would have been nice to hear any of this you had to say, but you mentioned nothing at all…??? I think your review is full of untruths and if you were unhappy at any given time, I was only upstairs for your entire stay, you could have contacted me at any time to make your stay more happier or direct you to the pools. :) I think it is quite odd that you put this part of the review in English, yet the other private parts of the review in a language that needs translated, not sure why you would do that.
This my husband and I's first time using AirBnB and we could not have been happier with everything. First of all, Stephanie is an absolute doll. She always got back to us within 24 hours while we were planning our trip, she arranged a motorbike rental for us and arranged airport pickup. When we were having trouble getting on the internet (our error, not hers) she personally showed up to show us everything and make sure we were set.
Everything was wonderful. Joko, the driver she had hired for us, waited for hours at the airport on an important Balinese holiday because our plane was 3 hours delayed! He still greeted us with a huge smile and so much love. He later arranged for a friend of his to take us to a sacred healing waterfall in the jungle where locals go to pray and bathe. We were the only tourists there and felt so welcomed.
The apartment is beautiful. It had everything we needed; WiFi, a mini refrigerator, water, a french press for making delicious Bali coffee. We sat and watched the sunrise every morning before walking the 2 kilometer mini-hike into Ubud Central. It's not a hard trek at all. It has beautiful views and it allows you to walk buy the loveliest locals who sell their art outside their homes (the best prices too, we bought the most beautiful paintings for a fraction of those sold in Ubud). The location is really perfect- very serene and peaceful compared to the busy downtown area.
Right outside the front doors, you step out right in front of the breath taking rice fields, where entire families laugh and sing, harvesting the rice.
A very short walk down the road takes you right to Karsa Kafe and Spa where you can overlook the fields while sipping from a fresh coconut over a Koi pond. (We also got spa treatments there- absolutely amazing!)
I would recommend this place to everyone I know. We really felt like we got to experience the real Bali, while still getting a nice pampering every now and then.
We spent the last 2 days of our trip in Sanur Beach at a touristy resort and we completely regretted leaving Ubud and Stephanie's beautiful home.
Staying here MADE our trip. It's peaceful, spiritual, rural, quiet, and beautiful, yet just close enough to really experience the culture and spirit of Ubud.
Thanks for letting us stay in your studio Stephanie. We really enjoyed the setting and being away from central Ubud activities. The view from the studio is awesome, and the bed was very comfortable. Negative points out of your control, but still influencing the joy of staying in the studio were the nightly power failures and the very early (middle of the night) non-stopping wake-up calls by the neighborhood chickens.
Hi guys. Glad you enjoyed and made it home safe! I am so sorry about the electricity issues. They started with the guests prior to you and I'm disconnecting the house from the rest of the property for its own breaker, so that should help. You guys were absolutely lovely and you seem like a genuinely happy family. What is funny is that I had purchased an instant hot kettle while you were in the apartment, so I now have that. I usually enjoy the firing up of the stove and pouring the water in the french press...I think its a ritual I have become accustomed to. There are proper knives and spoons there, but no butter knives, so I can put that on my list, thank you! I could add to the big butcher knife...there used to be a great set of knives there but have disappeared, so I will put that on my list too! :) Thank you so much for staying and I hope you really showed that friend of yours how to BBQ proper...I need to know what restaurant it is so i can go try it out. Being a southern girl, I know good BBQ when I get it. :) OH, the chickens....yes, hard to escape that in Bali....we are in the middle of the jungle and rice fields. It is nice to be out of town a bit and I would trade the chickens for heavy traffic, smog and loud bikes any day. Hope to see you in SA sometime! Would love to personally try that BBQ!

Hi there. I fell in love with the Ubud, but more importantly the Campuhan ridge the moment I arrived on it. Its amazing, in the middle of rice fields, hearing water rushing, view of jungle, view of every mountain in Bali---I couldn't ask for more. It feels like hours away from Ubud, but its only 7 minutes to the big grocery store.
Five things I cannot live without? Friends, Family, Serenity, Fresh fruit/veggies and Smiles welling up inside of me. Born and raised in Missouri in the states I have become an avid island girl and lived in the US Virgin Islands 13 years. I love adventures, going down unknown roads and paths, road trips and chatting up with strangers who become friends.
I can be posh or travel by backpack, I have learned extrememe flexibility in that arena. I do admit I admire the small touches. I am enjoying life as a journey now, not as the destination. I believe that can be an art that takes a lifetime to perfect. I am extremely artistic and have been making jewelry for 15 years now. I'm at the point where I want to design and leave the handwork to other people and just travel and see the world.
I love out of the way hidden and secret spots, I enjoy a good bargain, love the concept of bartering in the community and can't stop myself from smiling when I hear children laugh. Love to visit my family back home in the states, I am a very family oriented person and value my close ties tremendously.
Live your life at full speed without turn signals. :)
