Mulawarman Ubud is arguably the best place to use as a base if you're visiting Bali; if you are looking for culture, comfort, nature and inspiration. Mulawarman is surrounded by most of the things that bring people to Bali - scenic rice fields, small villages, ancient temples, palaces, and amazing restaurants (cheap local Indonesian, raw food, vegan, organic etc.). Our central location in Ubud makes it easy to get to the mountains, beaches, and major towns.
For those who want to discover an "Authentically Balinese" luxury guest-house still preserved from the "tourist invasion" and which, according to the guidebooks, is one of the best places in town, come to Mulawarman. Situated 25 kilometers northeast of Denpasar, Ubud is nestled in the green folds of countryside carpeted with terraced rice fields and carved by deep river gorges. Despite the increase in tourism Ubud conforms the image of being an example of the place where tourism development is harmoniously integrated into the village life.
Guest will have access to the shared reading room upstairs in the main building and a shared eating area. There are no refrigerator in the rooms, but if you need to leave something in the fridge you can use the kitchen fridge.
Interaction with Guests
Ibu Wayan will be at the guest house to greet you or one of her staff. She will also make a delicious breakfast in the morning too for you. So yes, Ibu will be around to help you with anything you might need. Though I should tell you Bali has many Ceremonies all year round, so if Ibu Wayan is gone . She is either preparing for a Ceremony or going to one.
I love my neighborhood because it is safe and quite but, I can easily walk or get a motorbike taxi to go do something. While you're in my neighborhood you should do some yoga at the yoga barn or taksu. Have a massage at one of the many little places....Zen spa is my favorite. Go Antonio Blanco Painting Museum. Of course visit the Ubud Palace go to the temple. Then do some exciting shopping and bargaining at the Ubud Market. Take a balinese cooking class. Have some gelato at Gelato Secrets. Then try to decide where to have dinner.......so many choices so much good food. Where ever you choose to eat don't miss eating at Sari Organic Restaurant in the rice fields this place is great for early sunset dinners and only 10-15min walk from Mulawarman. No Car access to Sari Organic you must walk or motorbike, amazing walk through the rice fields.
You have to go to Monkey forest and visit all the monkeys and please have someone in your group buy bananas. Now get the camera ready because it's going to be funny or a little scary depending on how much you like monkeys running to you and jumping all over you! Also only a 10minute walk from your room is the very hot and very cold baths with regular pool and sauna at the tjampuhan hotel that you can use for a small fee around $7 for the day. Walk down Jalan Monkey forest , that is the name of the main shopping road and there are a lot of restaurants, massages, and shopping on this road.
Getting around is very easy in Ubud.
You can walk , get a motorbike taxi or car taxi.
We can help you rent a motorbike or car if you like. If you would like a day tour we can arrange that with driver. We can also pick you up from the airport if you like for a charge of IDR 350,000 one-way.
The only house rules we have are to be mindful to us, to other guests , to the environment , and to yourself.
When it comes to smoking, we would like it done outside on your porch and not in your room.
If you are traveling with small children please be aware that we are located on the edge of a High Ravine. You are responsible for your children , please watch over them:)
We hope that all guests can truly relax and enjoy themselves while staying with us in Bali.
PLEASE DO NOT BOOK THIS!! We checked in and immediately left to go look for alternate accommodation without evening spending 30 minutes in the room. Read all the reviews under both the listing and the "host" - they are not favourable. The photos completely misrepresent the property, this is not someone's private home and you will not have a beautiful Balinese homestay experience with a warm, caring mother figure as the blurb may suggest. This is a hotel, and a really terrible one at that - dank, mouldy, dirty, and situated on a horrible concrete building site with construction rubbish, bare concrete and rusting reinforcing iron bars sticking out everywhere. Again, please look elsewhere.
Mrs Ibu Wayan is really a cheerful and generous woman. You will feel comfortable in her secret hideaway, close with nature (and still just a few minutes walk to jalan Raya) and really peaceful. It is a shame we only found the place at the end of our stay in Bali.
Hi Nathalie, I am so glad that you found us. We were a little worried, but once you arrived you were so nice and understanding. At least you got to go on a great walk in the rice fields and meet different artists. We are glad you made it:) Ibu Wayan treats all her guests like family. We hope you come back and see us again. This time you know way:)
Ibu Wayan and Tracy
I had a wonderful stay here. Ibu Wayan is such a warm and welcoming person - total sweetheart!
The place itself is gorgeous and in a lovely quiet location near the rice fields which is lovely as Ubud town centre is pretty hectic. The walk back in the dark is fine. It feels very safe.
I would thoroughly recommend!
Unfortunately，the day which i check in，the house owner went out and his friend don't know (website hidden)...there is some trouble to communicate with him. When I came back at night，I wanna to tell his friend walk out with me at (website hidden).Because the street between the road and Mulawarman is very dark，long and narrow. But his friend give me a flashlight，and let me go alone o(>_)o ~~ Even so，the house owner came back the second，and both of them is very friendly，I can (website hidden) friend said the breakfast is good，and thier little garden is very beautify.
This is Tracy , I have started today to help my dear Friend Ibu Wayan with her homestay. I see in the past she is not getting very good reviews due to her past manager who handled mulawarman, airbnb account and guests. IN response to your comments I would like to say sorry for any inconvenience you might have had. Now i will be able to help with english buy telephone or email with guests while they stay and i will sometimes be on location. I am going to start with a full cleaning of the entire place top to bottom and better training with the staff for cleaning. If you would ever like to come back and stay with us which i hope you will. Know while I am there it will be cleaner , friendly , easy to connect to me for english help. I also would like to give you a 10% off your next stay. Take care and have a great rest of your summer.
My wife and I found Ibu Wayan's Bed and Breakfast a good place to stay. She was kind and welcoming and we found Mulawarman to be clean and adapt to our needs. This place has only few rooms so you can enjoy the sounds of the jungle and quietness. We found this place to be in a good location to explore Ubud's area: you can reach the city-centre in just a short walk.
Wayan is really the most loving lady on Bali. She gave us the greatest welcome we ever had. She makes you feel home.
Her place is quite. Rooms are nice. Her pancake is absolute delicious and even her tea has a touch of love.
In less than 5 minutes walk you're in the center of Ubud.
I would highly recommend this place.
Wayan, thank you for this stunning experience. See you next time. With love.
